1 Members Newsletter March 2017 President s Message Spring is the season of vitality, blossom and growth. Shortly after HKWPEA celebrated our 20 th Anniversary in September, 2016, we are starting the year in full gear for the preparation work of 2017 Outstanding Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs Award. This is the 7 th time that this tri-annual event is being organized. We are at the exciting stage of promoting the event and soliciting nominations from all sectors of the community. Let us all promote this Award and encourage talented ladies who deserve to be recognized for significant achievements in their professions and their businesses and their worthy contributions to the society to come forth. 2 Recent Events Opening Ceremony of Social Enterprise Summit and Social Enterprise Week - Let s SEe 行行企企 September Social Enterprise Summit opening ceremony was held on 24 September at HKCEC. Mr. Lau Kong-wah, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, HKSAR Government was the guest of honor and officiated the ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of lots of prominent and outstanding speakers from overseas. HKWPEA has been actively involved in this yearly event and was one of the co-organizers to this Summit. Hong Kong s social enterprises have been energetic and creative to figure out ways to create economic and social impact. This year in Social Enterprise Summit, Let s SEe 行行企企 was held from September at the Hong Kong Convention Centre, which brought a carnival for all the participants to experience various creative activities, workshops and performance by social enterprises and non-profit organizations. 3 Globeathon 2016 Charity Walk 25 September 2016 Globe-athon Hong Kong 2016 charity walk was held on 25 Sept at Peak Road Garden successfully. It was jointly organized by The Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society and the Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. Globe-athon is an international awareness campaign with the mission to educate and support researches for gynecological cancers. It was fully supported by various organizations and celebrity and Janice Tsang represented HKWPEA to attend this meaningful event. Mar

4 2016 Annual General Meeting cum 20th Anniversary Dinner 28 September 2016 In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of our Association, HKWPEA brought together over 200 distinguished guests and members to celebrate this milestone. We were very honoured to have the Hon. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, as the officiating guest of our 20th Anniversary. The event programme was infused by the 20th Anniversary video and a brilliant Chinese musical instrument performance. The 20th Anniversary dinner was enormous success and memorable times to all of the members that we have shared the long years of bondage and passion to serve the community. Besides having a joyful evening, a big thank you goes to the organizing committee which has been headed by Angel Hon with Catherine Yau, Cindy Cheng, Cindy Chan, Catherine Fok and Caroline Mak as members. 6 Pink Walk for Breast Health October 2016 Pink Walk for Breast Health, the annual flagship fundraising event of Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF) has continued to be held for 11 successive years. This year it took place at the Peak on 10 October. 2,000 walkers dressed in pink from head to toe to help raise awareness on the threat of breast cancer. Our president, Sandra Mak attended this meaningful event. Family Friendly Employers Award Ceremony 25 October 2016 With the invitation from Home Affairs Bureau and the Family Council as HKWPEA is one of the supporting organizations, our Vice President, Helen Kan represented our Association to attend Prize Presentation Ceremony of the 2015/16 Family- Friendly Employers Award Scheme on 25 October at Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs. Carrie Lam; the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs. Betty Fung and the Chairman of the Family Council, Professor Daniel Shek, officiated at the award presentation ceremony. FoodEver WasteNever Seminar 11 November 2016 FoodEver WasteNever Seminar was held on the afternoon of 11 November at the Conference Hall of HKPC Building. The Seminar included talks, sharing sessions, drama and cooking demonstration. Sandra, Mabel and fellow members attended the seminar, in which Sandra represented HKWPEA is delivering an opening speech. We were honoured to have Permanent Secretary for the Environment / Director of Environmental Protection, Mr. Donald Tong, JP as a guest of honor and made a speech to all the guests. It was an informative and fun-filled seminar for supporting this on-going project. Mar

7 Cheongsam Glamour 嚐茶賞美 - 品茶話長衫 19 November 2016 A cultural & art event Cheongsam Glamour ( 嚐茶賞美 - 品茶話長衫 ) was held on 19 November 2016 at Lock Cha Tea house located in Admiralty. Cheongsam enhances the natural beauty of ladies and it also creates impressions of simplicity and charm, elegance and neatness. Hence, it is a great choice for special occasions. It was our pleasure to have Dr. Brenda Li ( 李 惠 玲 博 士 ), the advisor of Cheongsam Connect and their co-founder Ms. Anita Tsang ( 曾舜恩 女士 ) as the honourable speakers. Dr. Li shared the basic knowledge of Cheongsam including dos and don ts, while Anita shared experience on cheongsam hunting and accessorising. A total of 44 participants attended and most ladies came in elegant and beautiful Cheongsams. Everyone enjoyed fellowship time together with great tea and food. 8 Leadership Training Programme for underprivileged youngsters Visit to China CITIC Bank International 28 November 2016 In response to tremendous positive feedbacks from the students who had joined the Leadership Training session organized by China CITIC Bank International from previous sessions, an additional session was organized and held on 28 November evening at China CITIC Bank s office. It was very good turnout of over 50 students from various schools. Apart from the interview skills session, which is always the popular part, this session covered the latest trend of banking business such as e-channel with games and application sharing. The students were very enthusiastic and happy to learn new things from the banking industry. Mar

HKWPEA x etnet 珍惜食物 拒做大嘥鬼 好惜 賞 Facebook game 9 December 2016 The Facebook game 珍惜食物 拒做大嘥鬼 was launched on 9 December, It was jointly organized by HKWPEA and ET Net to advocate against food waste. Tthe Food Never Wasted message raised good awareness to the community via the social media platform and we received lots of feedback and sharing from the Facebook users. Mar

10 HKWPEA Christmas Party 9 December 2016 The major annual event HKWPEA Biz Meeting cum Christmas Party was held with a big success on 9 December, 2016 at The Full Moon, Macau Jockey Club (HK). 95 members and guests gathered together at this yearly highlight event. All the ladies were well groomed with red and gold color and the party was full of surprises and happiness. Prior to the exciting party, a special Cocktail Reception was arranged with a global selection of wines and freshly cut Parma ham. In connection with FoodEver WasteNever Project, our President, Sandra briefly updated the project progress, specifically introduced the eco-friendly colorful lunch box with HKWPEA logo on it. It was generously sponsored by Lexington as souvenir for our 20th Anniversary dinner and all proceeds, net of the production costs, would go to the Association to sustain our work. Special thanks to Cindy Chan Lo, Catherine Yau and fellowship Committee in organizing such a delightful party to all members and guests. 12 2017 Golden Age Expo & Summit January 2017 The 2017 Golden Age Expo & Summit was successfully held on January. HKWPEA is one of the Supporting Organizations of Golden Age Expo & Summit (GAES). GAES 2017 theme was Celebrating Smart Ageing and the conference included a two-day exhibition, symposium plus workshops, competitions and awards. Over 45 top speakers and professionals shared their insights and expertise. The event is a platform for government officials, business leaders, NGOs, social enterprises, academics and interested individuals to exchange ideas, showcase innovative efforts and learn from best practice. This year, HKWPEA hosted a 7-minute Cheongsam show [ 璀璨芳華 In the Mood for Blossoms ] at the Opening Ceremony of Golden Age Expo & Summit. We were so proud to have 12 HKWPEA members to show their elegant and professional looks in cheongsam catwalk and 2 members assisted as dressers. Special thanks to two Cheongsam experts, Cheongsam Connect Chair Ms. Anita Tsang as Advisor and Ms. Grace Choi, Cheongsam designer who generously sponsored Cheongsams for the special event. Mar

13 New Members Caroline Law 羅敏儀 Caroline is a Teaching Fellow at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong. An expert in urban greening, Caroline has been the Horticulture Officer and consequently the Project Officer at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden during She temporarily served as part-time lecturer at the Community College of City University in On community service, Caroline is the Chairperson of the Youth Leaders Alumni Sub-com of the HK Federation of Women. She belongs to Zonta Club of Hong Kong II. Amanda Lim 林屏 Amanda is the Director at ACH Worldwide Ltd. She worked as a researcher of CASS and project supervisor of University of Manchester. Previously, she served as part-time lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University SCE. Amanda is also a columnist of HKEJ monthly. On community service, Amanda has been a Director of Hong Kong University Graduates Association since Connie Yeung 楊曉如 Connie is the Deputy Superintendent at Madam Ho Sin Hang for the Elderly (HK Society for the Aged), starting as nursing officer from Prior to that, Connie worked in HA hospital as a registered nurse since 1991 and became the Head of Out Patient Department in On community service, Connie is a co-opted council member of Hong Kong Association of Gerontology. Stephanie Mok 莫君如 Stephanie is the Principal of Nelson CPA Ltd and Director of Nelson Consulting Ltd. She has worked in the company since As a CPA, Stephanie previously worked at ABL International Ltd and Bingley Wong and Company. On community service, Stephanie is a committee member of Accounting Development Foundation Ltd. She served as advisor and mentor to various students societies and students in local universities and territory institutes. Stephanie also engaged in case studies and financial analysis of listed groups and is a reviewer of financial publications. Mar

14 New Members Carlotta Wong 王詠儀 Carlotta is the Director of Lexington Ltd which she also co-founded since She worked at ProCorp Asia Ltd from and served earlier at Levett & Bailey. Carlotta sponsored eco-friendly lunch boxes at the HKWPEA 20th Anniversary. Joyce Cheng 鄭程 Joyce is a Senior Corporate Lawyer at ANZ ( 澳 盛 銀 行 ), working there since As a practicing lawyer, Joyce served Deutsche Bank during She joined Linklaters for four years prior to that. On community service, Joyce presently belongs to the General Office of Guangdong Provincial Committee of CPPCC. She is a member of the All-China Youth Federation, Director and Hon. Secretary of the HK Federation of Women Lawyers, a member of the Executive Committee of Hong Kong Employment Development Service, and a legal adviser for The Mirror. Dilys Cheng 鄭金鳳 Dilys is a Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers. As a practising member of HKICPA, Dilys worked in the company since On community service, Dilys is a member of the HKICPAQ Continuing Professional Development Advisory Panel. After years in the PTA of Hennessy Road Government Primary School, she is now also a Committee member of the School Management Committee. Wendy Tsang 曾韻雯 Wendy is an entrepreneur and Accountant at Tsang Wan Man Certified Public Accountant.
