General Mee"ng Shepparton Woodwork Show February 6th 1:30PM 11th & 12th March Eastbank Centre Welsford St Shepparton Les Thomas s Profile Les was born in Ballarat on the 13 th May He grew up in Creswick just north of Ballarat and was educated in the nth Creswick Sate School and the Ballarat Junior Technical School to year 4. Joined the staff of the Commercial Banking Co. of Sydney, and after two years was given a job on the relieving staff. Served in a total of forty two branches until he married Lyn in June After a short period as teller accountant in a new branch in Sunshine, he left the bank and went home on Lyn s parents farm for twelve months for experience, followed by eighteen months on a farm in Officer, and eighteen months on a farm in Stony Creek in Gippsland. On Doctors advice they went to Perth for three years and served as assistant to three different managers for two years followed by twelve months as a loans manager in the Perth building society. Home to Melbourne as the book keeper for his oldest brother for about eighteen months followed by a couple of short stints in sales and then as sales manager for a home improvement form in Ballarat. At the age of forty one he answered the call to the ministry with three years in Bible College, two and a half years as assistant Pastor at Warrnambool, and eight and a half years as Pastor of the Wesburn Baptist Church. On doctor s advice for Lyn s health they then moved to Alexandra and managed a one hundred and ten bed youth camp for thirteen and a half years until retirement. After building a lovely four bedroom home in Alexandra they decided to move down closer to their eldest son, and settled in Leopold in Les joined the Bellarine Woodwork Club about two years later and has enjoyed his time as treasurer until 2016 when health called for a rest.

Stunning wood I'm sure you'll agree. The top is made from Huon Pine, "mber I've used for most of my instruments. The neck is combina"on of Blackwood, silky oak and mulga which is a hard Queensland (I think) desert acacia, which I've also used for the body binding. I've used Paua shell strips for the sound hole rose6e and this is sandwiched between two strips of black and white wooden purfing. This same purfing is also used for the feature strip around the inside of the body binding. The guitar has an under saddle pickup so that it can be played through an amplifier. As I said, it's up to the tree to make it look good, it's up to me to make it sound good. I think at this stage the tree has the advantage.
