2 Congratulations! You are taking part in a murder mystery by Red Herring Games. A few simple instructions to help you along: Firstly: Don t Panic! This booklet contains all the information you need as a guest to help you act your part throughout the murder mystery party. The first page provides you with additional background information to help you get into character, however there are no special acting abilities required and you can make as much or as little of your character as you wish. After that on each page you are given either something to read out (dialogue), questions to ask, or information to help you answer questions you will be asked. These questions and answers are not intended to be read out word for word. Instead read them, digest the information and then ask and answer any questions in your own words. You are encouraged to ad lib, but it is very important you do not lie, so please provide the information contained within your booklet when asked. Your host for the evening will direct you where necessary and tell you when to move on to the next round when the time is right. If you are the murderer you will not be told. When you finally come to guess who did it it could easily be you and feel free to point the finger at yourself if you feel you must! And lastly: Have fun! Britney Sparks Background Character Information: Keep this information to yourself, and use it to help you to act in character throughout the mystery: Since bursting onto the scene aged 17 you ve seen it all. Now you re a veteran of the music game but make no mistake, you ve still got it! If it s not music its fashion, perfume and of course your numerous good causes. Whether you re liked or loathed, there s always plenty to talk about regarding Ms Sparks! As you ve sold over 100 million albums you feel you can afford to be loud and outspoken and people often think you re a little rude. Underneath it all though, is there still that tender little girl from the Mickey Mouse Club, longing to be loved? 1 1 2

3 Britney Sparks Scripted Dialogue Round 1 Introductions: Use the following dialogue to introduce yourself to the other guests, speaking when indicated below. Britney Sparks speaks first using the following dialogue: My name s Britney Sparks and I m the hottest act in town. Er, not this town though. I live in Las Vegas now. So, Brett Pop s dead, huh? And the sheriff thinks one of us, or should I say one of you, killed him. This d better not mess with my schedule you re all real lucky I m even here tonight. After you have heard from everyone, please continue reading and begin round 1. 3 So Brett s dead. Good riddance I say. One of you did the world a favour getting rid of him. Never made me any money. (RAPPING) Stabbed in the head, he s now come to harm but I guess he ll find calm as he s just bought the farm. It s tragic, and I don t just mean your rapping. Brett was my hero. (SOBS) Whatever. Maybe it was just like a really bad accident anyway. You mean he accidentally stabbed himself in the head? That s the stupidest idea I ve heard since combat trousers! And why is the Inspector keeping us all here? We have nothing in common. That s not quite true. We were all at the record label yesterday when Brett was killed. So they think one of us did it, maybe me? That makes me so sad I could weep. Well you can rule me out straight away. Killing s not my style. 4 Cont.

4 Mr Big: You ain t got no style girl, everybody knows that. You look nearly as bad as Topper Pops. At least I m not in as bad a state as Brett Pop. He s right a letter opener to the head is so not a good look. All that blood s going to ruin his lovely hair. Please don t mention the blood. It makes me feel queasy! Not as queasy as I feel when you start singing. Don t worry, we ll solve this crime. But all this sleuthing is thirsty work! I could do with another drink. Hit me baby one more time. I could murder an iced tea. Murder? Ugh! I think I m going to faint! Britney Sparks - First Round Questions you should ask: Sue Perfan claims to be Brett Pop s number one fan. Does she know anything useful about Brett Pop? What s the secret to Mr. Big s success. Is it all honest work? Ask him if he s ever stolen from his clients. Information you should reveal about yourself only when asked. You and Brett Pop started dating a few weeks ago but you decided to keep it low profile. Then, last week, he came to see your fantastic Vegas show and afterwards you were both so excited you accidentally got married! It s easily done. Your Vegas show is going great! You ve just been moved to a more exclusive venue, which you re really excited about. In fact, if it wasn t for this murder you d be back there tonight. You suppose they ll have to get by for a night or two without you. Do not read further until instructed by your host. 5 6

5 Scripted Dialogue Round 2 I ll join you there. OK, I admit it. I accidentally married him. Oops I did it again. Well I m more interested in that expensive gold bracelet. Ah! So maybe it was the wife that did it? Bah to marriage I say! You re better off staying single like me. You re just a Womanizer. And talking of single, let s hope Brett s new song is good. I m sure it ll be fanta-stic! And talking of Fanta, Brett did love a can of fizzy juice. You could say he was the King of Pop! The King of Pop? I thought that was Michael Jackson? Michael Jackson? Isn t he dead as well? Maybe fizzy drinks really are bad for your health. I d better cancel my Pepsi contract. Fanta? Pepsi? Never mind that. I d rather Crack a Bottle. Sometimes you need a bit of bling to attract a man s attention. But where is it now? It s mysteriously gone missing. Things are getting very strange. I m starting to worry. This could be a case for Mulder and Scully. That reminds me of a song. Not now! We ve got a crime to solve. Cont. 7 8

6 Britney Sparks - Second Round Questions you should ask: You ve heard rumours that Emma Nem was about to retire from the music business. Surely not? Why not ask her about it? You ve heard Topper Pops boasting that he can get in anywhere. Did he have a way of getting into Brett s recording studio? Information you should reveal about yourself only when asked. You were on the phone earlier to your legal team. You wanted them to make Brett Pop cancel your secret marriage before word got out to the press. Brett was refusing though what an ass! You know all about Brett Pop s comeback single. He kept playing it for you over the phone and wouldn t shut up about it. You think it sucks though. Only the really crazy fans will want to buy it. Do not read further until instructed by your host. Scripted Dialogue Round 3 So who s the murderer then? Anyone want to own up? I ve got no idea. The best idea you ever had was retiring. At least when I retire I won t have to deal with crazy fans like you anymore. I guess with your free time you could write your autobiography. Or, (POINTING TO SELF) hire someone else to write it for you! (EMMA SHAKES HER HEAD) Write it from your prison cell if you re feeling blue. Did someone say selfie? All right everyone, I think that s enough of that. If anyone s interested, I ve got all the clues. I just need the time to, you know, mull it over. What s that about a mullet? Whoever did this will be in jail for so long by the time they get out mullets will be back in fashion! Cont. 9 10

7 Mr Big: It certainly is a terrible business. It should be against the law to kill a pop star. It is against the law, Otto. That s a relief! But what if it was me instead of Brett? That wouldn t be such a bad thing. At least Brett could sing. Excuse me! Please spare a thought for me! I ve lost my husband. What about you? You ve been acting suspiciously all night. And talking of suspicious, Emma Nem is not the girl we all thought she was. We ve all got our secrets. Perhaps now it s time for all the secrets to come out. Britney Sparks - Third Round Questions you should ask: Why did Emma Nem cancel her interview with Topper Pops. Did she have something to hide? Topper Pops is a respected journalist or at least he used to be. What does he know about Otto Tune? Is he really the next big thing? Information you should reveal about yourself only when asked. You came to the studio last night to convince Brett Pop to let you out of this stupid marriage. Brett Pop was such a jerk. He kept saying maybe baby, but he was never going to agree. You left in a huff, just as Mr. Big was charging in. He looked furious. You bought Brett Pop a gold bracelet when you got married. He needed at least one nice thing to wear. You paid quite a lot of money for it but can t remember how much. And in return? Brett got you nothing! Do not read further until instructed by your host
