2 MANAGING YOUR SETTINGS, TAGGING & GROUPS Welcome back to LinkedIn and Social Selling - managing your settings; dealing with tags, how to use tags and, really, notes inside of LinkedIn; and how to leverage your LinkedIn groups, finding and engaging inside of groups. So, let s get started. PRIVACY SETTINGS We are going to start with privacy settings. When you log into LinkedIn and you hover over your face and you go down to privacy and settings, click on manage. If you have been logged in for some time, it is going to actually ask you for your password. Once you enter that password, you get into your privacy sections, so we are going to run through this. Password change On the top, you are going to first see when you first joined LinkedIn. That s kind of great information to know; it s kind of fun. You can change your password from here. Now, remember, this isn t where you needed your password to get to this section, so this is if you want to change your password, this is not if you have forgotten your password. Primary Then, primary - change or add. This is really important. You can have lots of s listed inside of your LinkedIn profile, but you are always going to have one that is primary and I almost all the time recommend, if you are in sales, to make that your professional , not your Gmail, or your Yahoo account. Once you add an , so if I were to add a new , which I already have that, and I go to add to s, it is going to send a confirmation to that . Once you click through, it then becomes a confirmed and you can make any of these primary. Now, when you go into group settings, which we will show you later, you can actually get a lot of your notifications to different s, but your primary is where your will go when someone sends you a message. So, you really want to keep that your professional . It is also what shows up in your connections section on LinkedIn. Phone number You can add phone numbers if you wanted to. This is great for confirmation purposes. I always have my cell phone as my primary phone number. I have had to use that a few times. Payment/active sessions If you have premium, you can manage your personal account and view your purchase history from here and from here, you can view your active sessions. 3 do every once in a while. When you click through your active sessions, it is going to show you where you are logged in. So, this is showing me where I have logged in and these are all in my work and home environment, but these are actually still considered logged in. So, if you happen to login and forget to log out remotely, you can log out right from here. I have actually eight sessions, so not four, so I can look through here. I can sign out of that, which means I am still signed in somewhere else and now, I am successfully signed out. So, I can very easily manage and sign out remotely. I love that feature. Upgrades This is also where you can see your upgrades. So, if you take a look at your upgrades, it will show you where you are if you are paying and other opportunities if you wanted to upgrade. I am, obviously, at the top, I can t upgrade anymore. PROFILE PRIVACY CONTROLS Turn on and off your news mention broadcast Next, is your profile privacy controls. You really do want to get a handle on this. So from here, you can turn on and off your news mention broadcast. When you click through here, you want your followers and your connections to know when you are mentioned in the news. I think this is a big deal. We want to get on their radar, so if LinkedIn recognizes that you ve been noticed in a blog post, or in a press release, you can let them know. The only time you would uncheck this is if you are concerned that there are some bad news out there. Choose whether or not to share your profile edits You also want to choose whether or not to share your profile edits. So, I have actually unchecked this now. When we were talking about profiles, you could see that on and off button on your actual profile. It was like whether or not your people can see your profile edit. Because I am always teaching and I am constantly making edits, I've turned this off, but if you make a few edits every once in a while, it is not a bad way to stay in front of your connections; they get notified that you have made a change on your profile. Select who can see your activity feed Select who can see your activity feed. This to me is a silly one and I am shocked at how many people actually have only me, which means anything you post out there isn t getting seen by anyone. Then, there are your connections, so these are your first degree connections; your network, which is your first, second and third degree connections; or everyone. But, here is something that you should really recognize. 4 see it and so on. So, only share things on LinkedIn that you are comfortable with everybody seeing because it can happen very simply. Select what others see when you ve viewed their profile Next, this is an important one - select what others see when you ve viewed their profile. When I click on here, I recommend that you are almost, always, open; that when you ve viewed someone s profile, people can see who you are. If you want to go into stalker mode and view profiles of competition, or others that you don t want to be recognized, you can go into stalker mode. If you have the free account and you go into you will be in incomplete private mode and you have the free account, you will no longer be able to see the people that are looking at your profile. However, if you have a premium account, you can. Then, there is sort of this in the middle piece, which I never recommend because people can figure out who you are, so you are either all in, or all out. Turn on and off how you rank The next section is turn on and off how you rank. You will see in whose viewed your profile section, you are able to see how you rank in your connections, in profile views and you can see what other people in your network rank. I mean, this is a place that people will see your face over and over again, so I tend to keep that open. Select who can see your connections Select who can see your connections. So, it is either only you or connections. A lot of attorneys and very private people tend to keep this off. I think in 95% of the time, you should have your connections open. This is a networking environment and when you get to the prospecting section, you are going to see how frequently we are leveraging other people s connections and so in return, you want to make sure that we are open, so they can do the same and leverage us as well. It is a two-way street, so I highly recommend you keep it to your connections, but, if for some reason you ve decided not to, this is where you can turn that off. Choose who can follow your updates Next, you want to see choose who can follow your updates. So, for me, you can have only your connections see what you post, or everyone. For example, I have about 13,000 connections and I have about 3,000 additional followers, so people can follow my stuff without connecting with me. I think that is not a bad thing. 5 Change your profile photo and visibility Change your profile photo and visibility. So, from here actually - this is taking me into here I can upload a new photo. I can see how it looks in the different places and then, I can, actually, if I wanted to, kind of bring it in; I can do that as well. So, let s go back. Show or hide viewers of this profile also viewed box Show or hide viewers of this profile also viewed box. This is an interesting one. So, I have display it, but what will happen is and I am going to show you if I go on to somebody s profile. So, let s say I go into Kevin s profile, I can see on the right-hand side, people also viewed. This gives me an idea of other people who are like Kevin - this happens to be a lot of people from his team - but often, you are going to see some competitors here. So, this is an area that a lot of people might decide to turn off because they don t want their competitors advertised on their profile. Manage who you are blocking Manage who you are blocking. So, if you are blocking anyone, particularly, you can go in and see. These are people I have blocked for one reason or another, probably for spamming me and I could go unblock them if I have a change of heart. Manage how people who have your phone number can connect with you Manage how people who have your phone number can connect with you. So, this is an area I haven t really spent much time on, but I think all LinkedIn members are people in my first degree connection. This is basically people to search you by your phone number; if they have your phone number and they want to get your name. Turn on/off meet the team Then, there is the team meet. So, this is if you wanted to hide your photo and profile information for showing up in job details, you could hide that as well. I never needed to do that. SETTINGS Manage your Twitter settings You can manage your Twitter settings from here. So, if you have Twitter, you can actually upload and you can add a second Twitter, if you wanted to, to your LinkedIn profile, so that s where you can manage Twitter. 6 Manage your WeChat settings I don t use WeChat, although I think I am set up. It is something that s going to be a chat section that LinkedIn has been teasing us with that you could chat while you are logged into LinkedIn. Edit your name, your location & industry Then, you can edit your name, your location, right from here. So, I put in my zip code, but I choose Greater Philadelphia area versus my local area. Some people choose to have United States listed. So, if you, actually, just put all zeros instead of your zip code, it won t give a particular city, it will say United States. I am not aware of any others overseas, but I am sure every country has one. Edit your profile You can edit your profile, here, as well. Edit your public profile that we are going to get into and manage your recommendations. So, let s go to edit your public profile. When you click on your public profile, you are able to select what people see. So, this is if someone is not logged in the information you can see. So, if someone is not logged into LinkedIn, you may decide I don t want them to see my websites, for example, or I don t want them to see my publications. Although, for me, I want everybody to be able to see everything, so I keep my settings. We talked about this in profile where you can set your public profile URL. Remember, this is what people will see if they are not logged into LinkedIn. So, if they found your profile through Google and they clicked through, you get to see how you are showing up. Manage your recommendations Then, last, manage your recommendations - so, recommendations are really important on LinkedIn and you want to make sure that you are reaching out and asking for recommendations from your clients. From here, you can ask for a recommendation and simply go through, state what company you are asking the recommendation for, go in and pick the person that you want to ask for the recommendation, fill out your relationship and send a message. But, here is my caveat to this. Do not ask for recommendations from LinkedIn until you ve had a conversation with that person. You don t want to kind of hit them out of left field, so you want to make sure that they know that you are going to be sending this. Right now, you can see I have asked for 50 recommendations; I have given 29. It is a little uneven. I probably have to go back and give a little bit more in recommendations, but that is how you can manage all of your recommendations. 7 COMMUNICATION Set the frequency of s Then, there is communication. So, how do we handle communications inside of LinkedIn? Well, we can select set the frequency of s from other members, updates and news, group digest, notifications. So, in here, I can even drill down and say I want a daily digest or no at all. Comments on your post - I can say an individual or none. So, you can control how much are coming into your . It is pretty simple. These are all going to your primary that you have set up. So, that is your frequency. Set push notifications Set up push notifications from other members. So, if I want invitations to connect and messaging, I want to make sure they are all coming in. (Oh and for some reason it s asking for my password again, but that is okay. I will go back and get that.) Select the types of message you prefer to receive I can see select the types of message you prefer to receive and there are some choices here. So, I will take, basically, any messaging and I am, kind of, open to everything, so that s the messaging. Select who can send you invitations Select who can send you invitations, so I have anyone on LinkedIn, but you can set it that only people that know your address. For example, you ve probably seen this, you go to connect with someone and it says you need their , that s because this is their setting. So, I recommend you keep anyone on LinkedIn open, especially if you are in business development. Often LinkedIn will communicate for research, or you will get people asking to connect with you through an InMail and that is where this would be. Groups Groups, companies and applications you want to select your group orders and how they appear, so you can actually drag and drop certain groups, so that they will appear in the order in which you want them to appear, or you could in and if I put in 5, it will change the order of those groups. Then, from here, you can manage all your settings. So, if I go into member settings and I want so right now the group logo is displayed. From here, this is saying that all the s that come from this group are going to go to this , but if I say I d rather switch it to that . Then, I can send me a digest, weekly, daily, however I want to do that or for each new conversation and then I can save those changes. 8 Account Let s go back to the privacy and settings so, you want to play through here and last is account. This is your advertising I mean I could go through each of these, but you kind of want to go through and these are all of the things that you can change. This will also allow you to downgrade or cancel as well as upgrade your membership. So, spend some time looking through these settings. They are really very, very important. STATISTICS Next, I am just going to quickly review your stats. Now, some of this is only available on the pay, but your stats are really kind of cool too and these are foundational. These are who s viewed your profile, who s viewed your posts and how you rank for profile views. How you rank for profile views So, we will start here, how you rank for profile views. In here, it says you rank in the top 2% for profile views among professionals like you. So, I am the second most viewed profile in people that LinkedIn has grouped us as people like me. So, it is kind of fun information. I can also see inside my company how I am doing. So, I can quickly see I am the top 1 of 33, so that is lovely. Then I can see how I am with my connections, so I rank in the top 1%; I am number 91. If I jumped to me I can see where I fall and I can see the people around me and these are the people who are first degree connections. Who s viewed your posts Who s viewed your posts is really important. Now, this is not all your activity, this is just your actual publications, but I can see who s viewed my post. So, let s say I ll go to this post. So, January 17 th I had Random Social Selling is so So, when I click through here I can see I've had 1,108 views, 88 likes and 29 comments. From here, I want to make sure that I am engaging with each person, whether I am replying to them, or just simply liking and you can see I have gone in and liked. But, if I look and I go, oh look, there is a second degree connection. This is someone who commented. It is probably someone I want to connect with, so I am going to open her up in a new link and from here I am going hit connect, we've done business together and then, I can send Lois thanks so much for liking my blog post, I would like to invite you to connect on LinkedIn. It s really simple, but really important. Who s viewed your profile Then, simply, who s viewed your profile. Remember, for the free account you can only see the last 5, but on a paid account you can see the last 90 days and again, we talked about this a little bit, but here s your stats and you can kind of get an idea of how much interaction you are having, how many activities, what they project your views to be. 9 People you may know You can also see people you may know. This is also showing up with your LinkedIn invitation request, which is up here. If you hover over here and go to see all, but you can go through because LinkedIn is recommending certain people that they want you to connect with. It is really, pretty, cool. So, those are really your statistics on LinkedIn. NOTES Now, let s talk a little bit about organization. I love the organization piece on LinkedIn. Let s say I wanted to find, or I connect, let s say with Kevin and I want to put him in a particular category, so I can do a couple of things. First, I can take notes, so will talk with Kevin on Thursday regarding Comcast, so I hit save. That note goes in here; it is time-stamped and I can edit it. If I want I can set up a reminder in here. Typically I will do that in my CRM, but if I don t have a CRM, I can have a reminder. Make sure you connect, whatever it is and it will actually remind me to connect. How you met is great, so I put introduction and I can put Sally Jo and I hit save and now, I can go back in the future and see how we've met. TAGS Then, there is a tag. So, we've got lots of different tags. This is for prospect; introduction requested; direct connect; intro made. So, I can go through here and put them in certain sections and I can say strategic partner and hit save. So, oop it didn't save because LinkedIn gets glitchy like that. Oh, it did save; it just said it didn't, so it did save. Later on I can go back and look at all of my strategic partners. Let s go and I will show you how to do that. We are going to go into my network and click on connections and then, I can simply go and look at my tags and choose, let s go social selling summit, and I can now see all the people that have been tagged as social selling summit. So, I can use this, particularly, if you don t have a CRM. This is a great way to take them from prospect. So now, let s say, social selling summit that s where they were and now I want to say he is now a prospect and then, may be once I am connected, I can set first call and uncheck prospect. So, this is a fantastic way to really begin to build out a very strong pipeline and use this for organization. So, make sure you are taking advantage of the taking notes and the tags. GROUPS The last piece that we are going to talk about in this section is groups. This is a big one. If we want to see our groups, we can go to interest and go to groups. If you are already in some groups, this is where they are going to show up. So, you click on my groups, you get to see a list of all the groups and you can actually change their settings from here if you want to go to group settings and you can see how much activity is in the group. Currently, there are 203 conversations here, 155 here. So, if I am finding that that s an area I want to engage with, I can now go in and engage with people. 10 they are doing; I can like it; I can comment; and I can look at who s in that group and just like we did in the proactively engaging section, I can now connect with Michael saying, great post inside of social media marketing, really enjoyed that, would like to connect. So, you can start to use groups. Finding the right groups Now how do you find the right groups? That is always a good question. Well, one of them is you to do a search. So, we can go into search and I can find, let s say I want to find groups on social selling. So, I can now see this is what comes up and I can join, so I am part of this group and there are 1,393 discussions and there are 3,800 members in this one. There are CEO blogs, guest blogging, thought leadership that would be interesting, I think I am going to join that. So, I click join and it s actually going to put me in a cue where someone then from that group is going to have to approve me. Once I am approved, I ll be ready to go. So, I can go through here and see ultimately the groups that I am in and the groups that I want to join. It s a really powerful way to start to build up the groups and then you start to engage with the right people in those groups. So, hopefully I will get approved shortly in some of those groups and you can have up to 100 groups on LinkedIn. That is managing your settings, tagging and notes and how to find and engage inside of LinkedIn groups. I am looking forward to our next video.
