2 ABOUT ME -My name is Marco Antonio Beltran Galan -I m a Freshman (9 th Grade) at Cristo Rey Jesuit High school. -My Hobbies: I really enjoy playing Baseball, Soccer, and Football. I also like to Skateboard a lot during the summer time. I really like to draw and write. I love to play Video Games. I really love spending time with my friends and Family. -My Goals in life. I would really love to be a architect or just a doctor for children. Overall I would just really want to help people or impact others life and that being a good impact. My greatest goal is just to be a better person and be very successful by having a good job and work very hard for my family.

3 OUR MISSION THROUGH SENSORY AND HOW WE ACCOMPLISH IT. LAND O LAKES MISSION: -According to The Source: Optimizing the value of our members dairy, crop, and animal production systems through our unparalleled commitment to quality, efficiency, and productivity. Using Farmers input to the best of our ability for excellent products from their effort. -How the Sensory Lab contributes: Testing out our products to make them better and making sure its our best quality we give to consumers and to our hard working farmers. The Sensory lab uses data collected from EAT and QDA panels to ensure product quality.

4 WHAT IS SENSORY SCIENCE? -Sensory Science: Sensory science is the science of evaluating the quality of food (or non food items) by the use of the senses such as taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing. -Why is Sensory evaluation is used? Human observers are sometimes the best or only measuring instruments. Cost-efficient way to deliver new products with high consumer acceptability. -How is Sensory Evaluation used? In a R&D, sensory scientists work closely with product developer s to understand. What consumers like and why. If consumers can tell a difference when they change a product.

5 MY DAILY TASKS AND PROJECTS. -I work every Wednesday. -In The Morning: Unload dishwasher and lab dishwasher. When I m the first person in the lab, I label 2 oz. cups for future test, or clean up, organize lab. Most Wednesday s I serve samples for either EAT or QDA panel testing. Clean up after the EAT or QDA testing. -In The Afternoon: Reference prepping for future test. Print label sheets. Labeling 2 oz. cups for future test. Serving QDA panel. Take lab inventory on cups, labels, etc..

6 MY EXPECTATIONS WHEN I FIRST STARTED. -What I really expected when I heard I was going to work in a lab with other scientist I was expecting like a chemistry lab. I thought I would be mixing chemicals from other beakers into each other and have explosions and finding out how the company makes large quantity's of product such as butter and pudding. Working is the Sensory lab was totally different from what I expected, it was less of what I expected. Although over the couple of months I ve been working in Sensory, I have learned so much. I m glad I was put in the sensory lab because I was exposed to another type of science and learned so much about it and was exposed to something completely different.

8 MY MENTORS AND WHAT I LEARNED FROM THEM. -Joe Dummann and Belinda Burkitt How to scoop butter from containers. How to slice butter from a brick of butter. How to slice cheese into squares. How to setup for EAT and QDA panel test or QDA training. How to properly serve samples.(wearing a lab coat, hair net, and washing hands and using gloves.) How to restock on inventory in panel. How to turn on panel computers. How to label 2 oz. cups. How to print Labels. How to pull out specific 2 oz. labeled cups. How to through away waste.(compost, recycling, Garbage.) How to measure the serving temperatures of samples. Load samples into cooler during tests. - Bistra Kochnitcharska on Basic lab and kitchen safety and basic hygiene practices as well, Sensory test serving protocol for EAT and QDA, samples serving temperatures protocol

9 MEMORABLE PROJECTS I ACCOMPLISHED. A memorable project that I m most proud of is when I served a QDA panel test consisting of 16 trained panelist, all by myself. It was a very busy day in the Lab especially because one of my mentors, Belinda, was ill that day so we were short on a pair of hands that day. Joe was very busy prepping samples for that days panel training and next weeks samples for a QDA test as well. After that he had to gather data from previous test, so he couldn t help me serve. Pretty much everyone in the lab was to busy to help me so I had to step up to the plate. At first I though I couldn t pull it off, I was very nervous and scared because I thought at one point during the test I would mess up, hence giving bad data. In the end I did it and finished. My mentor Joe was very surprised but proud at then same time. The panelist themselves thought I did a good job too. I was proud too and relieved I accomplished it too.

10 QUALITIES OF BEING THE BEST WORKER I CAN BE. I think the best qualities of being the best worker I can be is just doing the best for myself for me to improve and to be able to grow in the company. Also just being as positive as I can in doing any task I do and just giving it my best effort even though it might be just throwing away the garbage away or labeling cups even though once in a while it gets tedious.

11 APPRECIATION I d like to thank everyone in the sensory lab for always helping me in everything I do and for always supporting me, having answers for all of my questions, teaching me new skills, helping me improve in my skills in work, and always making me feel welcomed every time I walk into to the building.
