Practicing and trials Like any art work, you get better with relentless practicing. For a professional makeup artist, the best place to practice is on the face of others. So for this step, you will need means of publicizing your works, for now social media (instagram, twitter, Facebook and Snapchat) would do. You can hire a professional to run this for you or you run it yourself. The focus here are: i. Post as many of your works as possible ii. Check feedbacks to know how well you are doing iii. Ensure people can see your contacts, so they can get across to you for business

Going professional Getting to this stage means you have been handling professional jobs, even though your prices are still very flexible because you are still trying to perfect your works and win clients over. However, at a point you have to go fully professional; set your prices for jobs, go into training of others, take up assistants and focus more on management. You could also be working on how to expand your business, by looking out for other areas you can explore in the fashion world. Joining syndicates Like I earlier said, makeup artistry is just an aspect of fashion, for wedding package alone, clients would still need a photographer, hairstylist, fashion designer, tailor etc., so you can form syndicate with these other people to ensure you get more jobs. Syndicate is different from partnership, so you don t really have much ties to members of the syndicate, just basically referral arrangements that ensures when any of the syndicate member is asked for makeup artist, you get the referral (for an agreed token). 6. Moving on One of the core attributes of an entrepreneur is knowing when to move on, take for instance, Mr. Jay Manuel started as a makeup artist, he moved to management while people work for him, next he sold his franchise (for people to work using his name), then he moved to cosmetics product manufacturing and finally he is into modelling and fashion criticism.
