2 An INTRODUCTION I Was Born To Be A And Storyteller For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed doing live presentations. I was the girl, who in the first grade, was so excited to give that oral report, that nearly everyone else was dreading! I loved the opportunity of giving speeches and public speaking, and I jumped at the opportunity whenever I got the chance. Creating videos that grab the attention of your viewers is what I do best! My passion for spoken and written communications, naturally led me to study Broadcasting at the University level. In 2005, I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Weber State University where I specialized in Broadcasting and Sales. While working on my degree, I also worked as a live model and spokesperson for many 1st class brands including Nokia, Ericsson, Pepsi, The National Association for Child Development, localrealtors.com, and many others. 2
3 Continue INTRODUCTION After spending some time in the television news industry, I realized that I enjoy focusing on more positive messages. I changed scenes for a while and worked as a corporate account executive, but my passion has always been in front of a camera and the microphone, so like a fish needs the water, naturally I came back to producing video. Now, together with my husband, we are obsessed with interactive video, creative online marketing, and positive storytelling. Our goal is to teach you how you can use video to get discovered online, grab the attention of your viewers, and convert them into returning, loyal, and lifelong customers. 3
4 1 Know Your Target AUDIENCE Who is your target audience? This is the first step to attracting your best online presenter. You need to know who you are targeting. Who is your ideal, or most potential audience? This is a great time to get detailed! Is your target market men or women, or even children, or young adults? Are you targeting a specific age range? Are they business professionals, students, or entrepreneurs? What s their socioeconomic status? Are they located in a specific geographical area, or are you targeting a global audience? The more you know about your target audience, the better you will attract your best presenter. In fact, you may know exactly the type of presenter you re looking for, once you ve gotten clear about your target demographic. I suggest you create a character sketch of your ideal audience and be as detailed as possible. You may even consider your potential client s personality traits, and behaviors. Are they introverts or extroverts? This will make a difference as you consider what kind of presenter will be most effective. That leads me right into step #2. 4
5 2 Be Clear About DESIRED QUALITIES Once you are clear about your target audience, you may already have clues as to what you want in a presenter. Some of the ingredients to pay special attention to are: Gender: Think about which gender is best to accomplish your goals. Think about appeal to your target market. This may not be a determining factor, however, take this into consideration as your look for presenters. Accent: Gear this toward your target market and your primary aim. In a global marketplace, you need to consider which type of accent you re looking for. American neutral? Southern? European? Hispanic? Ethnicity: What appearance will appeal most to your target market? This may or may not be a huge determining factor, but should be taken into consideration as you look for the best presenter. Articulation: A highly important ingredient in your choice must be how the presenter articulates. Articulation is the formation of clear and distinct sounds in speech. Anyone can speak in front of a camera (although not everyone wants to), but not everyone can articulate like a professional. 5
6 2 Be Clear About DESIRED QUALITIES It takes a certain amount of expertise, skill, and talent. Bottom line? It s rare to find everything you re looking for in one individual person. When you find it, you ve struck gold! Keep this in mind when you invest in your online presenter. Speech flow: Pay close attention here. Look at samples and know what you want. Some presenters have a slow flow, while others have a fast paced flow. Watch out for the overall flow of their speech, and check to see if you are put at ease while you watch them present. Is it choppy in any way? Does is flow naturally so as to not be distracting? How is the presenter s speaking pace? Do you have special requests about the type of flow you want the presenter to use? This should all be discussed with your presenter to make sure he/she can deliver what you re looking for. Overall presence: After you ve seen some of the presenter s sample work, you should have a feel for their overall presence. Look for a magnetic presence! One that will hook your target market! One that will KEEP your viewers attention! Follow your gut instincts. If it doesn t feel right, it probably isn t. You should know within a few seconds of watching a sample presentation if this presenter is the best one for you. 6
7 3 Know Importance Of NONVERBAL Communication Be aware of the various non verbal queues to look for in a presenter. A few to consider are: facial expressions body movements posture gestures These are all a part of communication and need to be taken into consideration even for online presenters. 7
8 4 Be Clear About The END RESULT The obvious desired end result is, of course, a boost in sales, conversions, or subscribers. What I mean by being clear about the end result is you must be clear about what you want, where your video will appear, your preferred speech delivery style, and your call to action. Will you be putting the video on Facebook? YouTube? Your landing page? Your squeeze page? An sales letter? When you find your best presenter, you ll want to be sure you re prepared. What style do you prefer? Enthusiastic? Natural? Serious? What about your call to action? Do you have one? Is it clear? A presenter can state your call to action better than any written text! Keep that in mind, and let your presenter do the work for you! 8
9 5 Be Willing To INVEST Online presenters aren t cheap! Well, let me rephrase that in today s global economy, you CAN find cheap presenters, however, be warned the old adage, you get what you pay for is proven time and time again. Chances are, if you hire cheap work, you ll get cheap results. I can t even count the number of times I have had new customers approach me, who are now willing to pay the price for excellence, because they learned this lesson the hard way. The story is usually that they hired a cheap presenter, and they got a cheap product. The lesson is: BE WILLING TO INVEST TO GET THE BEST! The best presenters are hard to come by. They possess a critical combination of skills and abilities, along with a pleasant appearance, all in one package. The professionals have done their time doing free, or cheap work when they first started. As you wouldn t ask a doctor to discount his/her rates, keep in mind the level of education, talent, and expertise required for a professional presenter, and invest to get the best! 9
10 6 Do Your RESEARCH Now that you know what to look for in a presenter, it s time to do your research! In other words, go to work to find your best presenter. There are many avenues, websites, and apps available to find a presenter. A few examples of places to find freelance presenters are, upwork.com, fiverr.com, and freelancer.com. Be sure to see some examples of your potential prospects, so you know what type of work you can expect. 10
11 7 If not today, then when? TAKE ACTION A wise man once told me, how you do one thing is how you do everything. I had to think about that one for a while. Oh how true it is! If you know that your biggest dream killer is your tendency to procrastinate, there has never been a better time to break that poisonous pattern! Implementation is the key to success! Do what you need to do to implement action now! If you struggle making decisions, then either break through it, or hire someone to make those decisions for you. Get the ball rolling by making contact with the presenter you feel will best represent what you re selling. 11
