3 Welcome to Drawing Compare for Autodesk Vault Drawing Compare for Autodesk Vault is a technology demonstration add-in designed for visual comparison of different drawings. It lets users to check versions or revisions leveraging the attached.dwf file to detect and highlight document changes. Requirements and Installation Drawing Compare requires any of the following software to be installed: Autodesk Vault Office, Autodesk Vault Professional or Autodesk Vault Workgroup. To install this add-in, please run the installer and follow the instructions. Installation: 1. Launch DrawingCompare.msi to open Drawing Compare Setup Wizard. Figure 1. 5 Getting Started This User Guide describes how to use all the functions of Drawing Compare with helpful materials provided. Launch After successful Drawing Compare installation, in the context menu of a drawing in Autodesk Vault appears Compare Drawings (Fig. 4): Drawing Compare Main Dialog Figure 4. Drawing Compare Main Dialog The comparison window consists of the view showing the comparison and highlighting the differences, and following elements (Fig. 6): Figure 6. Comparison Window 1. Print To print the active comparison. 2. Select This button is selected by default when not any other button or tool is selected. You can use it to cancel any other button or tool. 3. Pan To scroll the comparing region. 4. Zooming tools Zoom, Zoom To Area and Zoom To Fit. 5. Measurement tools Length, Polyline, Area, Angle, Length/Radius, Point Location, Relative Distance, Add Coordinate System and Manage Coordinate System. 6. Functionality Comparison of Two Different Drawings To use this feature, choose two drawings in Autodesk Vault and call the context menu with the right click of the mouse (Fig. 7): Figure 7. 8 A revision of the file for comparison may be selected in the Revision drop-down menu. By default, the additions are red and the deletions black. To change these color settings, use appropriate Addition and Deletion fields. To start the comparison click Compare and comparison results appear in the new window. Figure 9 displays an example of comparison: Figure 9. Comparison of two different drawings Note: Drawing Compare can compare only drawings that have DWF files and only the first sheets of multi-sheet documents! Comparison of Two Versions of a Drawing To use this feature, choose a drawing with several revisions in Autodesk Vault and call the context menu with the right click of the mouse (Fig. 10): Copyright 2017 AMC Bridge 8

Drawing Compare Main Dialog Necessary revisions of the file must be selected in the Revision drop-down menu. By default, the additions are red and the deletions black. 10 Figure 12. Comparison of two drawings without differences Note, that Drawing Compare can run when one drawing is selected. In this case, the window will have combo boxes to choose the revisions to be compared. During the comparison, you can return to the Main dialog and select a different file revision or change comparison colors to re-compare. Another comparison window will be generated in this scenario. Therefore, the same drawing selections may have several comparisons at the same time. Measurements There are several tools to measure the dimensions in the compared drawings: Length, Polyline, Area, Angle, Length/Radius, Point Location, Relative Distance, Add Coordinate System and Manage Coordinate System. To use these tools, point to Measurement, and then click appropriate button. Up-to-date, the following measurements are available: Length To measure the distance between two points, point to Measurement, and then click Length (Fig.13): Copyright 2017 AMC Bridge 10

11 Figure 13. Length button Then, select two points and the dimension with the approximate length will appear. Figure 14 shows an example of a length measurement: Figure 14. Length measurement example Polyline To measure the length of a polyline, point to Measurement, and then click Polyline (Fig.15): Copyright 2017 AMC Bridge 11

12 Figure 15. Polyline button Then, select points along a line and the dimension with the approximate polyline length will appear. Figure 16 shows an example of a polyline length measurement: Figure 16. Polyline measurement example Area To measure the area of a closed contour, point to Measurement, and then click Area (Fig.17): Copyright 2017 AMC Bridge 12

13 Figure 17. Area button Then, select points along a closed contour and the dimension with the approximate area will appear. Figure 18 shows an example of an area measurement: Figure 18. Area measurement example Markups Markups have two layers: additions and deletions. It is possible to change, rotate, scale, block or delete each layer. To change a layer, click on it with the left mouse button and its frame with all its elements becomes highlighted. To rotate a layer, click on the rotation handle at its frame. To scale a layer, drag the sizing handle at its frame. To block a layer, click on the lock symbol near the layer. And to delete a layer, click on it with the right mouse button and choose Delete.
