4 Setting Up the Trimble S6: Step 1 2 Task Locate a position at the scene with good line of site to objects of interest/target visibility place a nail or mark in the ground directly beneath tripod location if you would like to reference or setup again over the same point in the future. Extend Tripod Legs (before spreading them) to Chin Level in order to effectively view items through optics or higher if you will only be collecting points robotically (with a target). 3 Spread tripod legs at least 3 feet apart for stability especially on harder surfaces. 4 5 Insert battery into the S6 and securely mount it onto the tripod. Use two of the tripod legs to position over a point with the third leg securely fixed in the ground (if performing a resection, this may not be necessary). Use a tripod stabilizer or sandbags on a smooth/hard surface. Always level the instrument with the tripod legs first. Fine leveling can be performed with the Tribrach dials on the base of the instrument. Once level, turn on the S6. 6 Mount the MT1000 MultiTrack Target and TSC3 Bracket to the Telescopic Rod. 7 Power up the TSC3 Data Collector and Open Trimble Access > General Survey. 8 Perform a Station Setup (see page 8) or Resection (see page 29). 9 Measure or Stakeout Points. 10 Repeat as necessary to collect more data from a different perspective California Surveying & Drafting Supply, Inc. 8 Creating a New Job in General Survey: 5) You ll now see the folder name on the top of the screen (1); key in your job name (2); and press the Enter/Accept key (3) to create your job within your new folder (note: unless otherwise specified, your Coord. sys. 13 Station Setup: 9) If you have keyed in or imported points into your job, you can now select (tap the rightarrow in the "Instrument point name:" field) or key in your new instrument point name if the point/point name doesn't exist, you will be prompted to key in coordinates for your first (instrument) point: 10) Icons on the right top battery = TSC3, bottom = S6; Instrument = S6 height and measuring method; prism = target height and constant: 2013 California Surveying & Drafting Supply, Inc. 14 Station Setup: 11) Click Accept to confirm your instrument (S6) positional parameters: 12) Next, give your backsight point a name (or select an existing point by tapping on the arrow in the point name field). If creating a new point, enter a descriptive Code, azimuth (approximate direction the instrument is facing relative to north) and choose a method of Angles and distance: Note: if you would like to use a direction only (azimuth only and not a point) for your backsight, change the "Method:" field to Angles only you must also click on the target icon and switch to "Target DR" to measure your reference azimuth direction California Surveying & Drafting Supply, Inc. 16 Station Setup: 15) Ensure that your S6 is in Autolock mode (so it will lock onto and follow your target) by tapping on the S6 icon and choosing the Autolock function: 16) Walk with your target in front of the S6 so that it locks onto and follows the MT1000. 17 Station Setup: 17) Notice that when the S6 is locked onto the MT1000, there is a line extending from the S6 icon and a lock next to the prism icon: 18) Review your station setup and tap Store to complete it (If using two existing/keyed in points, you will see residuals to show you how precise your measurement was relative to them). 20 Instrument Measuring Modes: 1) There are two instrument measuring modes: STandarD and TRacK. 21 Instrument Measuring Modes: 3) Track mode is very fast stores points instantaneously but standard is more precise as it averages 5 points per 2.5 second observation. 2mm for STD 4mm for TRK To collect data you can simply change the point Code and tap enter/store as fast as you can move to the next point, change the code, level up and measure.
