1 This drawing will require you to a model of a truck as a Solidworks Part. Please be sure to read the directions carefully before constructing the truck in Solidworks. Before submitting you will be required to save your drawing as a JPEG file and submit it to Canvas. 1. Create a new part and save. a. Click the New button (or hold your mouse over the Solidworks logo, Click File, and New). b. Select Part and Click Ok. c. Click the Save button (or hold your mouse over the Solidworks logo, Click File, and Save As). d. Change the File Name to Truck (be sure the file is saving into Documents). e. Click Save. 2. Creating the Truck Base a. Click the Sketch Tab (if it is not already selected See Right). b. Click the Sketch button. c. Select the Front Plane. d. Click on the Rectangle Tool. e. Start at the Origin Point (where the two red lines meet), click and hold down the left mouse button, drag your mouse to draw a rectangle, and release the mouse. f. Click Smart Dimension g. Click once on the left vertical line of the rectangle. h. Drag your mouse inside of the rectangle (away from the line but do not click on the center of the rectangle). i. Click again to bring up the modify box. j. Change the height of the rectangle to 30. k. Repeat steps G- I with the top (or bottom) horizontal line.
2 l. Change the width of the rectangle to 120. m. Click Exit Sketch. n. Click Zoom to Fit to see the entire Rectangle. o. Select the Sketch in the Feature Manager Design Tree. p. Click on the Features tab and select the Extrude Boss/Base. q. Leave the End Condition: Blind. r. Change the Depth to 25. s. Click the Green Check mark. 3. Adding Wheels a. Click on the Front Face of the Rectangle. b. Click on Sketch and select the Circle tool. c. Hold your mouse pointer over the bottom edge of the rectangle (it will highlight in orange). Click, hold down your left mouse button, and drag the mouse out to draw your circle on the right side of the rectangle. d. Repeat step C on the left side of your rectangle. e. Click Smart Dimension. f. Change the diameter or both circles to g. Change the distance between the circles to 80. h. Click on the edge of the front circle and click again on the front edge of the rectangle. Change the distance to 20. i. Click on the edge of the circle and click again on the top edge of the rectangle. Set the distance to 30. (if it is already set to 30, just click the Green Check mark on the Modify box.) j. Click Exit Sketch. k. Click the Features tab and then click on the Extrude Boss/Base button. l. Click and hold your mouse button on the Direction 1 arrow that appears. Drag the arrow back though the first rectangle.
3 m. Set the End Condition to Through All. n. Click the Green Check mark. 4. Creating the Cab. a. Click on the top face of the rectangle. b. Click the Sketch tab, Click on the Sketch Button, and select the Rectangle tool. c. Hold your mouse pointer away from the front edge of the rectangle. Draw a rectangle as wide as the top face. d. Click on Smart dimension. e. Change the width of the rectangle to 40. f. Set the distance between the rectangle and the right edge of the top face to 10. g. Click Exit Sketch. h. Click the Features tab and select Extrude Boss/Base (make sure you sketch is selected in the Feature Manager Design Tree). i. Set the depth to 30. j. Click the Green Check mark. 5. Create the Window a. Click on the front face of the truck. b. Click on the Sketch Tab, click on the Sketch button, and select the Rectangle tool. c. Draw a rectangle in the Cab section of the truck (the rectangle that was just extruded in the previous sections). d. Click on Smart Dimension. e. Set the width and height to 20 each. f. Set the distance between the top of the rectangle and the top of the Cab to 10.
4 g. Set the distance between the side of the rectangle and the side of the Cab to 10. h. Click Exit Sketch. i. Click on the Features tab and select Extrude Cut (make sure your sketch is selected in the Feature Manager Design Tree). j. Set the End Condition to Through All. k. Click the Green Check mark. 6. Creating the Truck Bed a. Click on the top face of the truck, behind the Cab. b. In the Features toolbar, click on Shell. c. Set the Thickness to 2. d. Click the Green Check mark. 7. Set the top of the Cab. a. Click on the top face of the Cab. b. In the Features toolbar, click Filet. c. Set the Radius to 5. d. Click the Green Check mark. 8. Saving and Submitting a. Click the save icon (at top of the screen) to save your drawing. b. Click the triangle next to the save icon (or roll your mouse over the Solidworks logo and click File). c. Click Save As d. Change the Save As Type to JPEG (.jpg) (ensure your file is being saved into Documents) e. Click Save. f. Log on to Canvas.
5 g. Go to the Truck Submit. h. Click Browse or Choose File. i. Select your file from Documents and click Open. j. Click Submit Assignment.
