1 ScenePD 4.0 Quick Start Lessons Overview The following lessons will teach you the skills needed to draw most incident scenes. Using ScenePD, follow the step-by-step instructions to create the ten sample drawings shown here. Each drawing builds upon the skills learned in the previous lesson. Once you have completed the lessons, you should be ready to begin a drawing of your own! Lesson 1 Floor plan This lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Accessing ScenePD Beginning a new drawing Creating structures Repositioning objects Using handles Managing walls Managing windows Managing doorways Description A crime has taken place in an apartment building. To begin your diagram of the crime scene, you will create a floor plan of the apartment. Lesson 1 Floor plan 1

2 1. Start ScenePD. 2. Click click here to begin with a drawing template. 3. On the New Scene window, click the Structures button. 4. Click the 30 x 50 template. 5. Click OK. 6. You are now looking at the exterior of the building. Click (the Zoom Out button) twice to give yourself more room around the building. 7. The building size is actually 40 x 60. Change the size as follows: a. Click on the top wall. It turns green. Drag it upward until the measurement from the bottom wall shows 40. b. Click the right wall and do the same, so the measurement reads 60 from the left-hand wall. 2 Lesson 1 Floor plan

3 8. Create the leftmost interior main wall by dragging the vertical Add Wall tool onto the work area, inside the structure, until it measures 12 from the left outer wall. 9. Create three more main walls as follows: a. Wall 1: Drag the horizontal Add Wall symbol onto the structure and position it so that it is 12 from the bottom outer wall. b. Wall 2: Drag the horizontal Add Wall symbol and position it 5 6 above the wall you just placed. 5 6" c. Wall 3: Drag the vertical Add Wall symbol and position it 25 from the first vertical wall you placed. 10. The upper horizontal wall does not go all the way to the right exterior wall. Click on the wall to select it. Drag its right Square Handle until it is 11 from the vertical wall. Lesson 1 Floor plan 3

4 11. Drag the four remaining walls onto the structure: a. Wall 1: A vertical wall 11 from the right outer wall. b. Wall 2: A vertical wall 11 from the wall just placed c. Wall 3: A vertical wall 11 from the wall just placed. d. Wall 4: A vertical wall 6 3 from the wall just placed. 12. Add 8 doorways to the building, their locations are indicated by the blue dots: a. Click on the Add 36 Doorway symbol. Drag the doorway to the location of the first blue dot. A doorway will appear. Finetune its position, then let go of the button b. Repeat step a seven times, placing the doorways as indicated by the remaining blue dots. 4 Lesson 1 Floor plan

5 13. There are two big 10 doorways in the back of the building, indicated by the blue dots. To create them: a. Drag the Add 36 Doorway symbol into place. b. On the Properties Bar at the bottom of the screen, click the arrow next to the Door Width item. Type 10 in the text entry box. Click OK. c. Position the new door 1 10 from the little door. d. Repeat steps a-c to create the 10 doorway on the other wall. 14. Add one big window and three small windows. Window placement is indicated by the blue dots. a. Drag the Add 72 Window symbol up front (upper right exterior wall). Position as needed. b. Drag the Add 24 Window symbol to each of the three offices. Position as needed. 15. Congratulations! You have successfully completed Lesson 1. Your drawing should look similar to the one shown here. To prepare for the next lesson, on the Scene menu, click Erase & Start Over. Lesson 1 Floor plan 5

6 Lesson 2 Intersection fender bender In addition to the skills learned in lesson 1, this lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Adding objects Starting over Naming a street Modifying symbols Description Unit 1 was moving through the intersection. Unit 2 ran a red light, and then turned to the right to avoid Unit 1. Unit 2 struck Unit 1, and Unit 1 skidded across the intersection. 7 1. Start ScenePD (if you have not already done so). 2. On the New Scene window, click the Streets button and 4-Way to select the 4-way intersection template. 3. Click OK. 4. You are on the streets layer. Click the street on the left. 5. Type Elm Street. 6. Click the street on the top. 7. Type 8th Avenue. Lesson 2 Intersection fender bender 7

8 8. The text is off center. Click the text and a green rectangle appears. 9. Drag the text box to the center of the street. 10. Click the Symbols layer tab. You are now on the Symbols layer, with the Vehicles toolset selected. 11. Click the Passenger > Car subset and drag the Midsize car to the upper right corner of the intersection. 12. Click the Pickup/Van/SUV subset and drag the Minivan to the lower-left corner of the intersection. 13. Use the Circle Handles to rotate the car and the van into position. 8 Lesson 2 Intersection fender bender

9 14. To color the car tan, select the car and click the Dark Tan color button on the Properties Bar. 15. To color the minivan black, select the minivan and click the Black color button on the Properties Bar. 16. To label the vehicles, click Label, drag Unit 1 onto the car and drag Unit 2 onto the minivan. Note As you drag the label over the vehicle, a green rectangle indicates the locations where the label may be placed. Once placed, you can always reposition the label using the Position button on the Properties Bar. 17. Click Roadway > Marks. 18. Drag two Skid Marks onto the intersection and move them into position. 10 19. Drag Debris 2 between the two vehicles. 20. Click Roadway > Signals. 21. Drag Signal - Red 1 to the middle of the intersection. 22. The red light is facing the wrong way. Right-click the signal, point to Rotate Left, and then click 90. Tip You can access many useful commands by rightclicking any object. 23. Congratulations! You have successfully completed Lesson 2. 11 Lesson 3 Bicycle and crosswalk In addition to the skills learned in lesson 1, this lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Resizing objects Adding a street Moving a street Adding a crosswalk Adding a lane Adding lane markings Description The driver of Unit 1 accelerated to turn and struck Unit 2 as it was crossing 1st Street. 12 1. Start ScenePD (if it is not already open). 2. On the New Scene window, click the Streets button and then click the Tee Intersection template. 3. Click OK. 4. Click the horizontal street shape. Use the Square Handle at the right end to drag the street down at an angle. 5. With the street still selected click the Lanes up arrow on the Properties Bar. 13 6. Drag the Horizontal street symbol onto the drawing so that its right end slightly overlaps the intersection. The new street will join the intersection automatically. 7. Use the Square Handle at the left edge of the street to shorten the street. (You may need to scroll to the left to get the view you want.) 8. Select the vertical street and type 1st Street. Note When you label a street, ScenePD places the street s name in a default location inside the street. If this location is not optimal you can drag the name to another area of the street. 9. Drag the text box to the bottom, out of the way. Lesson 3 Bicycle and crosswalk 13

14 10. Select the street on the right and type State Street. 11. Move the text out of the way, as you did for 1st Street. 12. With the Streets toolset still selected, drag the Crosswalk to 1st Street. The crosswalk will automatically snap to the street. 13.Click the Lanes & Shoulders toolset. 14. Drag the directional arrows out to State Street and rotate them into position. 15. Click the Symbols layer tab. 16. Unit 1, a Jeep, is partially in the crosswalk. Add Unit 1 as follows: a. Click on the Pickup/Van/SUV subset and drag the Jeep symbol onto the work area. b. Position the jeep as indicated in the example and color it olive. c. Click the Label subset and drag Unit 1 onto the Jeep. 14 Lesson 3 Bicycle and crosswalk

15 17. Unit 2, a bicycle, is on its side. Add Unit 2 as follows: a. Click Vehicle > Cycle and drag the Bicycle Side symbol onto the work area. b. Position the bike as indicated by the example and label it Unit 2. c. The bicycle is facing the wrong way. Click (Flip button) on the Properties Bar. 18. Click the Roadway toolset and the Posted Signs subset. Drag out and position two stop signs. 19. Select the Tags/Other toolset and the Indicators/Arrows subset. 16 20. Use a corner Square Handle to make the symbol smaller. 21. Use the Circle Handle to rotate the symbol. 22. Congratulations! You have successfully completed Lesson 3. To prepare for the next lesson, click Erase & Start Over on the drawing menu. 16 Lesson 3 Bicycle and crosswalk

17 Lesson 4 Jackknife In addition to the skills learned in lessons 1 thru 3, this lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Ordering objects Selecting multiple objects Grouping and ungrouping objects Resizing a lane Adding a turnbay Changing a stripe s pattern Adding a shoulder Description Unit 1 failed to notice the upcoming intersection. The sudden attempt to stop caused the semi to jackknife. Lesson 4 Jackknife 17

18 1. Open ScenePD (if it is not already open). 2. On the New Scene window, click the Streets button and then click Straight. 3. Click OK. 4. On the toolbar, click the Zoom Out button. 5. Click the street. 6. Type Main Street. 7. Click the Lanes & Shoulders toolset. 8. Drag the 2 Way Left Turn Lane tool onto the street. 9. To increase the width of the travel lanes, click the Lane Width arrow until the width is 12 Ft. 18 Lesson 4 Jackknife

19 10. Change the width of the turn lane: a. Select the street and then click in the turn lane to select it. A green selection line will run along the lane and new buttons will appear on the Properties Bar. b. Click the Divider Width arrow (on the Properties Bar) until the lane is 12 Ft wide, or enter the desired width into the textbox manually. 11. Add the turn bay: a. Click the lower turn lane stripe. A dashed line will appear along the stripe. b. Drag the Triangle Handle at the right end of the stripe to open the turn bay. c. Use the stripe s middle Triangle Handle to shorten the turn bay. 12. Drag the Add Shoulders symbol onto the street. 13. Drag the Add a Bike Lane symbol onto the lower edge of the street. 14. Move the Main Street text box up, out of the way. Lesson 4 Jackknife 19

20 15. Label the bike lane: a. Click on the Text drawing tool - toolbar. - on the left b. Click in the work area; your pointer will turn to a cross hair. Hold down the left mouse button and drag to create a text box. The Edit Text window will appear when you release the mouse button. c. Type Bike Lane. d. Click OK. 16. Reformat the text: a. Right-click upon Bike Lane and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. b. Change the Size to 2. c. Click to italicize. d. Click to Left-justify. e. Click OK. You may need to adjust the length of the text box to align with bike lane. 20 Lesson 4 Jackknife

21 17. Click the Symbols layer tab. 18. Drag out Trailer 28ft from the Semi/Trailer subset. Rotate symbol into position. 19. Add the tractor to the trailer: a. Drag out Tractor LN. Rotate it into position as indicated in the example. b. Change the color to Orange. c. Label the tractor Unit The tractor appears on top of the trailer. To fix this, rightclick on the tractor, point to Arrange and then click Send to Back. Lesson 4 Jackknife 21

22 21. To make the truck a single object, follow the steps below: a. Drag a selection box around the tractor and trailer to select both of them. b. Right-click in an empty area. Do NOT right-click on the truck or you will lose your multiple selection. c. Click Group on the shortcut menu. 22. Drag the tractor-trailer to the right and rotate it into position. 23. 23 Lesson 5 Off-road encounters In addition to the skills learned in lessons 1 thru 4, this lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Copying objects Zooming Curving a street Changing part of a stripe s pattern Using drawing tools Showing original position Description Due to icy conditions, Unit 1 lost control, crossed the highway, jumped a shallow ditch, smashed through a chain link fence, swiped a juniper bush, flipped on its side, and slid into a tank in the National Guard depot. 24 1. Start ScenePD (if it is not already open). 2. On the New Scene window. Click the Streets button and then click Straight. 3. Click OK. 4. To provide more drawing space in the work area click the Zoom Out button five times. 5. Use the end Square Handles to position and drag the street to the corners of the work area. 6. Right-click on the street, point to Set Profile and click Triple Arc. 24 Lesson 5 Off-road encounters

25 7. Use the Square Handles to curve the road, as indicated by the example shown here. 8. The street striping should change from no pass to pass for southeast-bound traffic. To change the stripes, follow the steps below: a. Click the Stripes toolset. b. Double-click the Double Solid pattern tool. Position the pointer at the left end of the stripe, hold down the left mouse button, and move the pointer to the right (along the stripe). Release the mouse button just after the sharp turn. c. Double-click the Dash & Solid pattern tool. Position the pointer at the right end of the stripe, hold down the left mouse button, and move the pointer to the left (along the stripe). Release the mouse button at the double solid pattern. Note Before you release the mouse button, make sure that the pointer is on the lower side of the stripe. This will ensure that the dashes appear below the solid stripe. Lesson 5 Off-road encounters 25

26 Tip You can use the double green bars to drag the pattern transition point along the length of the stripe. 9. Click the Symbols layer tab. 10. Drag out, resize, and position the following items: a. Ditch from the Roadway > Roadside toolset. The ditch should run along the right side of the road. b. Building from the Roadway > Roadway toolset. Label the building Armory. c. Bush from the Roadway > Roadside toolset. Position the bush so that it is in front of the Armory. Use the side Square Handles to elongate the bush until it matches the length of the Armory. d. Fence 1 from the Roadway > Roadside toolset. Position the fence alongside the ditch. e. North Indicator 3 from the Tags/Other toolset and the Indicators/Arrows subset. Position it to the lower left of the work area. f. Not to Scale from the Tags/Other toolset and Indicators/Arrows subset. Position under North symbol. Note You can adjust the work space view as needed by using the arrows on the bottom and right side of the work area. 26 Lesson 5 Off-road encounters

27 11. To draw the tank, using the drawing tools located on the left toolbar. You will copy and layer the Rectangle, Square, and Circle shapes as follows: a. Draw a long, black rectangle. c. Copy the rectangle by holding down the CTRL key and dragging the rectangle. The original remains intact as you drag the copy. d. Draw an olive rectangle on top of the two black rectangles. e. Draw a dark green square on top of the olive rectangle. f. Draw a long, black rectangle in front of the green square. g. Draw a black circle on the upper left corner of the green square. h. Drag a selection box around the tank to select all of the shapes. i. Right-click in an empty area (not on the shapes) and choose Group from the popup menu. 12. Copy the tank two times using the CTRL-drag method. Position the tanks in a row, near the right side of the Armory. Lesson 5 Off-road encounters 27

28 13. To draw Unit 1, including five ghost images, follow the steps below: a. Drag out an SUV from the Vehicles > Pickup/Van/SUV toolset. b. Name the SUV Unit 1. c. Copy it four times. Note For illustration only, the text has been placed on top of the vehicle. d. Right-click one of the SUVs and click Show Outline Only. Repeat this step until you have four ghost vehicles. 14. Position the five vehicles, placing the gray SUV against the tank. 15. With the gray SUV selected, Click on the Properties Bar to flip the vehicle. Click the addition Flip buttons as needed to correctly position the SUV. 28 Lesson 5 Off-road encounters

29 16. To draw four arrows, follow the steps below: a. Click the Tags/Other toolset and the Indicators/Arrows subset. Drag out Arrow 1. b. Click the up arrow on the Line Width text box (Properties Bar) until width is 5. c. Right-click on the Red color selector on the Properties bar. This will change the arrows line color to red. d. Copy the arrow three times using CTRL-drag. 17. Position the arrows along the vehicle path. Shorten/lengthen and curve the arrows as needed. 18. Congratulations! 31 1. Start ScenePD (if it is not already open). 2. On the New Scene window click OK to open a blank scene. 3. Click the Measurements layer tab, along the right side of the work area. 4. Drag a north-oriented baseline onto the center of the drawing area. Note The ruler zero points align to the station line s origin point. 5. While the baseline is selected, click the Edit Measurements button, displayed at the bottom of the screen. 6. ScenePD will display marker points for each measurement item. 8. Use the lasso zoom button on the toolbar to zoom into points 1 and 2. Lesson 6 Body in the woods 33

34 9. Add the body: a. Click the Symbols layer tab. b. Click the Person toolset and the Bubbleman subset. c. Drag the Man symbol onto the drawing; position the symbol between marker points 1 and 2. Use the external Circle Handle at the right of the body to rotate the symbol counter-clockwise a few degrees. 10. Use the internal Circle Handles to position the body parts as shown. 34 Lesson 6 Body in the woods

35 11. The right arm appears to be under the torso. To position the arm in front of the torso, drag the Bring Part to Front tool onto the forearm. A red circle appears to identify the body part under the tool. Release the mouse button to move the forearm on top. 12. Do the same for the hand. Note In addition to the Bring Part to Front tool, you may also access the Send Part to Back and Remove Body Part tools. 13. Drag and place the four clues, as follows: a. Place a Cigarette symbol at marker point 3. The Cigarette symbol is located in the Person symbol set in the Personal subcategory. b. The pistol is a Llama Ruby Model XII. This is similar to the S&W Model 10. Drag the S&W Model 10 from the Object toolset, Weapons Handguns subcategory and position the symbol on marker point 5 as shown. c. Under the Person toolset, Prints/Tracks subcategory, use the Shoeprint Flat symbol for the shoe print at 4, and the Shoeprint Heeled symbol for the boot print at 6. Position as shown. 36 14. Draw the walking trail: a. Click the Closed Shape drawing tool on the left toolbar. Your cursor will turn to a crosshair in the work area. b. Position the crosshair where you want the trail to start. Press the left mouse button and then draw the trail, clicking at each corner point. c. When you reach the last corner point, right-click to close the shape. d. Change the Color to Cream on the Properties Bar. e. Right-click on the path, point to Arrange and click Send To Back to ensure the trail is under the body. 15. Draw the tree stumps: a. Click the Circle drawing tool on the left toolbar. Your cursor will turn to a crosshair in the work area. b. Hold down the left mouse button where you wish the stump to start and drag. Release the mouse when you are finished drawing. c. Color the stump Dark Brown. d. Copy the symbol twice and size and position accordingly. 36 Lesson 6 Body in the woods

37 16. Select each clue and label accordingly. You may need to change the position of the text you may do so by clicking the Position button on the Properties Bar. 17. Congratulations! 38 Lesson 7 Four-way right yield template In addition to the skills learned in lessons 1 thru 6, this lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Modifying a curb return Removing a stripe Creating a drawing template Adding a template group Description Your county has a number of rural roads with four-way stops where one road has a right turn lane with a yield sign. You want a template to use whenever an accident occurs at such an intersection. 38 Lesson 7 Four-way right yield template

39 1. Start ScenePD (if it is not already open). 2. In the New Drawing window, click the Streets button and then click the 4-Way template. 3. Click OK. 4. Click twice. 5. Lengthen the right and bottom streets. (You may need to scroll down and to the right to view the entire drawing.) 6. Click the lower-right curb return to select it, and then use the green square handles to extend the curb return until it is approximately 60 feet each way. Watch the Setbacks measurements on the Properties Bar as you drag the handles. 7. To draw the island, follow the steps below: a. Click the Closed Shape drawing tool on the left toolbar. 2 1 Tip Closed Shape is an important tool because it lets you draw any shape with a border and interior. 3 b. To make a triangle, click at position 1, then 2, then 3, and right-click. Lesson 7 Four-way right yield template 39

40 c. Position the triangle at the yield corner. d. Use the Diamond Handle on the right side to create a curve. 8. The stripes are extending too far into the intersection on the right and bottom streets. To fix this, follow the steps below: a. Click (the Eraser drawing tool) on the left toolbar. b. Position the eraser at the point where you want to begin erasing. Hold down the left mouse button and move the eraser over the stripe you want to erase. Release the mouse button where you want to stop. Tip Double green bars appear to show where the stripe is erased. You can adjust the erased section by dragging these bars. c. Repeat steps a and b for the other street. 9. Click the Symbols layer tab. 10. Click the Roadway toolet and the Posted Signs subset. Drag out and position a Yield sign. 11. Add four generic signs: a. Drag out Generic Sign 1. b. Right-click on (Red) on the Properties Bar to change the symbol s line color. c. Copy the sign three times. 40 Lesson 7 Four-way right yield template

41 d. Position the generic signs at each street. Tip You can easily rotate the signs into position by right-clicking on a sign, pointing to Rotate Left or Rotate Right, and then selecting 90 or The drawing is complete. To save it as a template, first create the following folder on your computer: C:\Templates\Rural. 13. On the Tools menu, click Options. 14. Click the Templates option. 15. In the Name box, type Rural Roads. 16. In the Location box, type C:\Templates\Rural or click the arrow button to browse for location. 17. Click OK. Lesson 7 Four-way right yield template 41

42 18. On the File menu, click Save As Template. 19. In the Template Group box, select Rural Roads. 20. In the Layers to Save box, select both Streets and Symbols. (Your drawing has objects on both layers.) 21. In the Description box, type 4-Way Right Yield. 22. Click OK. The next time you begin a new drawing, the Rural Roads template group will appear with the 4-Way Right Yield template in the group. 23. Congratulations! You have successfully completed Lesson 7. 43 Lesson 8 Vandalism at the library In addition to the skills learned in lessons 1 thru 7, this lesson teaches the following skills, which are discussed in more detail on the pages referenced below: Using Wall Painter technology Adding swinging doors with handles Using the callout tool Using Lasso Export Description The library at St. Anthony High School was vandalized. Perpetrator(s) broke a side window on the first floor, stole two computer monitors and attempted to steal another. The third computer monitor lay on the floor, damaged, but does contain a print. You will be exporting the major area of damage as a bitmap image. Lesson 8 Vandalism at the library 43

44 1. Start ScenePD (if you have not already done so). 2. Click OK on the New Drawing window to open a blank drawing. 3. Click the Structures toolset on the Base Layer. 4. Double click on the 10 x 12 Structure symbol. Your pointer will turn to a crosshair in the work area. 5. Draw the school building: Note For this example, begin with the top wall and draw right to left, clockwise. Measurements listed are for the outer diameters. a. Click where you want to begin drawing. Draw the top horizontal wall measuring approx b. Click mouse at corner point and then draw one vertical wall measuring 16. c. Click mouse at corner point and then draw small horizontal wall. d. Click mouse at corner point and then draw vertical wall. 44 Lesson 8 Vandalism at the library

45 e. Repeat measurements (steps a thru c) for corresponding walls. Tip Watch for a red circle when aligning the corner points of parallel walls. This will indicate wall alignment. f. Click mouse at corner point and then draw 39 1 vertical wall. g. Click mouse at corner point and then draw 43 2 horizontal wall. h. Click mouse at corner point and then draw 63 5 vertical wall. i. Use the Triangle Handles to adjust the size as indicated in the screen capture example. c. Click on the Rounded Corner tool and drag onto to the middle corner (front and back) of the counter. Tip The red circles indicate placement. d. Drag the Rounded Corner tool onto each outer corner. 15. Click the Counter symbol and drag to the middle of the structure. Use the Triangle Handles to lengthen the counter. Use the Circle Handle to turn the counter to a horizontal position. 49 16. Add the bookshelves: a. Click the Counter symbol and drag onto the structure. b. Use the Triangle Handles to lengthen and widen the symbol. Use the Circle Handle to turn the counter to a horizontal position. Tip Counter shapes will automatically align with the closest shape. For instance, if you want the counter to be horizontal, drag it into the work area next to the middle counter. c. While the symbol is still selected, click the Light Brown color selector on the Properties Bar. d. Copy the counter 18 times and position as indicated in the example. Position the monitor facing out on the counter. c. Copy the monitor and position the copy facing the opposite direction. d. Select both monitors and copy and paste five times. 51 21. Place a red X indicating from where the computer monitors were taken: a. Click the Line drawing tool on the left toolbar. b. On the empty end of the middle counter, draw a slanted line. c. Change the Line Width to 3 on the Properties Bar. d. Change the color to red. e. Copy the line and position it in the opposite direction. f. Group the two lines and copy twice. 22. Click the Zoom to Fit button on the toolbar. 23. Mark the emergency exits as indicated with the blue dots in the example: a. Click the Fire/NFPA toolset and the General Use subset. Drag the Emergency Exit symbol onto the work area. b. Copy the Emergency Exit symbol five times. c. Position symbols at each emergency exit (two on each side, two on the back). 56 1. Start ScenePD (if it is not already open). 2. On the New Drawing window, click the Streets button and then click the Straight template. 3. Click OK. 4. To provide more drawing space in the work area, click the Zoom Out button five times. 5. Use the Square Handles to drag the street to either side of the work area. 6. While the Roadway > Roadside toolset remains selected, drag the Boulder 1 symbol onto the work area. a. Copy the symbol three times. b. Resize boulder symbols to various sizes. c. 58 11. From the Vehicles > Semi/Trailer toolset, drag the Semi Tanker symbol onto the work area. a. Click the Red color button on the Properties Bar to change the cabin color. b. Position the semi so that it is entering the top curve. 12. To continue with the accident progression you will need to open another drawing window. a. Right-click on the Scene 1 tab, located in the lower right hand corner, below the work area. b. Click Clone. You will automatically be directed to the work area of Drawing Move the semi forward, toward the end of the curve. Use the Circle Handle to position appropriately. 14. From the Roadway > Marks toolset, drag in Skid Marks. a. Position the Skid Mark behind one of the semi s back tires. b. 59 15. Begin the third progression slide: a. Right-click on the Scene 2 tab. b. Click Clone. You will be automatically directed to the work area of Scene Drag the semi forward. 17. Lengthen the skid marks so they remain behind semi. 18. To flip the semi on its side: a. Click on the semi to select the symbol. b. Click the Flip button on the Properties Bar. c. 60 19. Draw the hazardous spill: a. Click Lasso Zoom button. Draw a box around the semi and the area you wish to add spill. b. Click the Closed Shape drawing tool on the toolbar. Draw the spill. c. While the shape is still selected click the Tan color selector on the Properties Bar. 20. The spill shape is on top of the semi. Right-click on shape. From the shortcut menu, select Arrange and then click Send to Back. 21. Click the Hazmat toolset. Drag the Placards symbol (fire diamond) onto the spill. Position as needed. 22. With the placard selected, type the following numbers: 2, 3, 2, 0. The classification numbers will automatically populate in diamond, as well as on the Properties Bar. 60 Lesson 9 Tanker spill

61 23. Click the Zoom to fit button to return to normal view. 24. Before you convert your drawings to a PowerPoint presentation you will need to add your logo: a. Click Tools > Options. ScenePD Options box appears. b. Click Print Standard Output option. c. Click Browse for Logo button. The Browse for Logo box will appear. d. Browse for logo file, or type in file name. e. 62 25. Create your PowerPoint presentation: a. Click File > Create PowerPoint Presentation. The Save As window will appear. b. Choose the location on your computer where you wish to save your presentation. c. Name the file. d. Click the Save button. A new window will open with your PowerPoint slides. The driver hits the breaks too late, and sedan hits a tree. As the first officer on the scene, you will be submitting an initial report of the accident scene. Lesson 10 Accident report 63

64 1. Start ScenePD (if you have not already done so). 2. On the New Drawing window, click the Streets button and then click the Curve2 template. 3. Click OK. 4. Click the Symbols layer tab. Click the Roadway > Roadside toolset and drag Tree2 in to the work area. a. Copy the tree symbol twice. b. Position trees above the curve. Note To ensure the whole symbols can be seen, you may need to adjust the screen view. 5. While still in the Roadway >Roadside toolset, drag the Overhead Light into the work area. a. 65 6. Draw the base of the marble statue: a. Click on the Rectangle drawing tool,. Draw a rectangle between the two light posts. b. While the rectangle is still selected, type Marble Statue. Text will automatically populate within the shape and on the Properties Bar. 7. Click the Measurements layer tab. 8. Drag the Reference Point symbol onto the work area, and position it to the right of the light post base. 9. Drag the Reference Point symbol onto the work area again - position this point at the upper left corner of the statue. 10. With Reference Points selected, click the Edit Measurements button. 67 13. Click the Symbols layer tab and position evidence from marker points: a. Click the Vehicle > Car toolset and drag the Large Sedan symbol. Rotate and position so the left rear bumper is aligned with the 5 pointer, and the left side mirror with the 6 pointer. b. The car symbol is on top of the tree. Right-click on the Sedan, place your pointer over Arrange and then click Send to back on the shortcut menu. c. Click the Roadway > Marks symbol toolset and drag in Skid Marks. Position skid mark to align with points 1 and 2. Note Skid marks will snap to the points. A red circle will alert you to the proper placement. d. Drag the Skid Marks symbol again. Add the following scene details: Case Number: Date: You want today s date, so tab through the Date entry box (the current date is the default).
