1 Room 2D/3D Diagram Demo PART 1) Basic Room Layout (2D) 1) Open the Crash Zone or Crime Zone diagram program. 2) Click on to open the CZ Point Cloud tool. 3) Click on 3D/Cloud Preferences. a) Set the Cloud File Units (Feet or Meters). b) These units should match the Export Units set Scene. c) Feet for this example. d) Un-Check Show Ground Plane (if checked). 4) Click on Load Point Cloud to load the.czp file from Scene. Open Room_Demo.czp NOTE: This example was previously saved with the ground level adjusted. For this example this step is not necessary but will be helpful for future work. 5) Ground Level Adjust to adjust the point cloud so the lowest point is at the ground plane (elevation of 0). The altimeter on the scanner sets the overall point cloud height. For drawing purposes it will be easier to have zero elevation. a) Click on Display Tools. b) Click on Elevation Adjust. c) Click on OK to make the adjustment. PART 1) Initial Scene Layout in 2D: Easier to create the room outline as well as the furniture and body outlines. 6) Set the view to Top Down.

2 7) Turn 2D Trace Mode ON. NOTE: Turning on 2D Trace Mode means that connecting to points in the CZ Point Cloud tool will generate on 2D data, giving every point snapped to a zero elevation. 8) Maximize Viewing When working with point clouds in CZ, it is best to view both CZ and the Point Cloud tool at the same time. If two (2) monitors are available, this can be done by placing CZ full screen on the left monitor and CZ Point Tool full screen on the right. When dual monitors are not an option: a) Move the mouse to the title bar of CZ. b) Click and hold the left mouse button. c) Drag the cursor to the left edge of the computer s screen until a ripple effect occurs at the cursor. Ripple effect appears d) Release the cursor. e) Move the mouse to the title bar of CZ Point Cloud. f) Click and hold the left mouse button. g) Drag the cursor to the right edge of the computer s screen until a ripple effect occurs at the cursor. h) Release the cursor. 9) Before you start drawing in the point cloud it is a good idea to set the line type properties to a bright color and heavy line thickness so that it stands out from the point cloud. To do this:

3 a) In the Tool Zone, click located under Properties b) Choose a color from the Color Palette c) Click d) Choose either 3 Medium or 5 Heavy Line thickness options 10) Use the Continuous Line to trace the outline of the room. When connecting the last point to the first point do it in the 2D drawing window. Click on the first point and press Enter to finish the line. NOTE: You can only snap to cloud points in the CZ Point Cloud tool. Snap to actual drawing entities in the 2D drawing window. 11) Place Points to show the location of the doors and firearm. 12) Use the Continuous Line to trace the outline of the table and chair. 13) Use the Continuous Line to show the body position. 14) Minimize the Point Cloud tool and maximize the drawing screen. 15) Place Symbols for the table and chair. a) Open up the Crime symbols group.

4 b) Select and place the Chair Folding symbol. Office>Chairs>Chair Folding c) Snap the first placement point (Snap Pt.1) of the chair to the lower right corner of chair outline. Rotate and snap the final chair placement point (Snap Pt. 2) to the upper right corner of the chair outline. d) Select the chair symbol to re-position it inside the chair outline. e) Select and place the table_work_30x72 symbol. Office>Tables>table_work_30x72

5 f) Select and place the Semi-Automatic Pistol symbol. Weapons>Firearms>Semi-Automatic Pistol 16) Use the Easy Body Poser tool to place and pose the body. Set the basic body position (facedown), height (5 11 ), build, and features. a) Pose the body as closely to the outline in the drawing as you can by eye. b) Click Place and click on the center of the stick figure outline. c) Rotate the body to align with the stick outline. Click to finish. NOTE: The body will need some adjustment once placed in the diagram. d) Select the body to adjust it and re-open the Easy Body Poser tool.

6 e) Adjust the body and click Update to see the changes in the drawing. d) Close the Easy Body Poser tool. 17) Dimension the drawing. a) Open the Dimension tool. b) Set Height to 6. c) Check the Single Click Dim box. d) Using the Single Click Dim setting, click on the walls (lines) to dimension. e) Click on Wall 1 and place the dimension. f) Click on Wall 2 and place the dimension. NOTE: Un-check Single Line Dim to place a dimension clicking on two points instead of clicking on a single line.

7 18) Add a Text Label to the drawing. a) Open the Text tool. b) Set Height to 6. c) Check the Show Arrow box. d) Type Handgun in the text box.

8 e) Click on or near the handgun symbol to position the text label arrowhead. f) Click to place the elbow of the label line. g) Click to position the text label. NOTE: Un-check Show Arrow to place text freely. 19) Save the drawing.

9 PART 2) Final Scene Work (3D) 20) Turn 2D Trace Mode OFF. NOTE: Turning off 2D Trace Mode means that connecting to points in the CZ Point Cloud tool will generate 3D data. 21) Turn the room outline into 3D walls. a) Click on (select) the room outline in the drawing. b) Click on the 3D Builder tool on the Speedbar. c) Enter a Wall Height of 7 4. d) Un-Check the Wall Paint and Roof display boxes. e) Click on the Apply to Selected Objects button. NOTE: All your 3D data and modifications will be immediately displayed in the CZ Point Cloud tool and will also be displayed in the 3D Viewer.

10 22) Place doors in the 3D walls using the Doors & Windows tool. a) Set Width to 3. b) Set Height to 6 9. c) Check the Place Opening box. d) Click on the Place Opening button. e) Click on the wall to add the door to (Point 1). f) Snap to the point representing the hinge side of the door (Point 2). g) Touch the side of the wall opposite the hinge side (Point 3). h) Repeat for the other door. The results will be displayed in both the 2D diagram and the CZ Point Cloud windows. 23) Set the correct height of the 3D symbols (table and chair). a) Select the Table symbol in the diagram. b) Click on the 3D Builder tool on the Speedbar.

11 c) Enter a Symbol Height of d) Click on the Apply to Selected Objects button. e) Select the Chair symbol in the diagram. b) Click on the 3D Builder tool on the Speedbar. f) Enter a Symbol Height of g) Click on the Apply to Selected Objects button.

12 PART 3) Computer Box and Bullet Trajectory Lines (3D) 24) Isolate the points that make up the computer box. NOTE: The easiest way to snap to the correct points in the cloud is to isolate the cloud points you want to work with. a) In the CZ Point Cloud tool click on the Top View button b) Rotate. the image until the computer box is at near 90 degrees. c) Zoom Window around the computer box.

13 d) Click on the Point Display tools. NOTE: The Point Display tools button is to the right of the Seek and Preferences buttons. It may not show up on the top bar if the CZ Point Cloud window is too small, reduced in size to fit on a split screen. If this is the case, you can resize the CZ Point Cloud window or Right Click on your mouse to bring up all the Point Display tools. e) Click on Keep Window. f) Place the Keep Window around the computer box. Only the points inside the Keep Window will be displayed. NOTE: You can bring all the points back at any time using the Show All Points tool. g) Click on the Iso View button. h) Click on the Seek tool and then select the computer box. This will make the computer the target area for zooms and rotating. i) Zoom Window around the computer box.

14 25) Draw the base of the computer box. a) Click on the Continuous Line tool. b) Click the first point of the line on the back corner of the box (Point 1). c) Click on the second point on the front corner of the box (Point 2).

15 NOTE: Before clicking consecutive points watch the Delta Z value located at the bottom of the screen, to see the change in elevation from the last point selected. If there s more than a fraction of an inch difference you may be hovering over the wrong point. d) Click the third point on the right, front corner of the box (Point 3). NOTE: Moving around the points (rotating) is simplified because the computer box was targeted with Seek mode. To rotate while drawing a line click on the rotate buttons or hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard, hold down the left mouse key, move the mouse. Let up on the Ctrl key to select the next point. e) Click on the fourth point on the right back corner of the box (Point 4). f) Finish the outline of the box by snapping the last point to the first point of the box. Put the AutoSnap crosshairs over the first point in the 2D drawing window and click.

16 26) Finish the box by giving it 3D height. a) Click on (select) the computer box outline. b) Click on the 3D Builder tool on the Speedbar. c) Enter a Wall Height of d) Un-Check the Wall Paint and Roof display boxes. e) Click on the Apply to Selected Objects button. 27) Mark the location of the bullet holes on the computer box. a) To make the bullet holes stand out more on the computer box, increase the point cloud Point Size by moving the Pt. Size slider to the right.

17 b) Place a Point at the center of each bullet hole mark. NOTE: Each point you place will show up in the 2D drawing view. If it doesn t appear to line up closely with the side of the computer box you may have to Undo the last point and try again. 28) Draw the bullet trajectory lines between the trajectory points in the 2D drawing window. a) In the 2D drawing window click on the Single Line tool found in the Draw tool group. b) Snap to Point 1 and then Point 2. c) Click on the Single Line tool and snap to Point 3 and then Point 4.

18 29) Extend the trajectory lines. a) Click on the Trim/Extend tool found in the Edit tool group. b) Click on Line 1 first and then click on Wall A. c) Click on the Trim/Extend tool and click on Line 1, then click on Wall B. d) Click on the Trim/Extend tool and click on Line 2, then click on Wall A. e) Click on the Trim/Extend tool and click on Line 2, then click on Wall B.

19 The drawing can now be completed without the point cloud data. 30) Close the CZ Point Cloud tool. Click on the X right corner of the CZ Point Cloud window. 31) Maximize the diagram program in the upper.

20 32) Open 3D Viewer. a) Adjust the view and take Snapshot. b) Go back into 2D. The Snapshot manager will open up automatically. Choose the snapshot you want to place in the drawing. 33) Add the finishing touch to the drawing by placing a border around it. a) Click on the Custom Borders button in the Borders & Forms group. b) Click the Landscape border selection.

21 c) The form will automatically be placed around the drawing. d) Double click on the X s in the text fields to edit them. 34) Save the drawing.
