3 PART I - MODEL INTRODUCTION In this workshop you will learn how to build a simple 3D house, and create the related plans. You can interrupt your work at any time; simply do not forget to save your work. Now, start your project by setting the general values. Go to File > Project... PREPARATIONS Click on NEW... and name the project "Test", confirm with OK. The project window appears again and shows the title. Confirm with OK to get to the next window, called STRUCTURE SETTINGS. Create a new structure with NEW and name it "House", and then quit with OK to get back to the previous window. Roland Messerli AG 2

4 Here you determine the number of floors. Enter 1 for each the ground floor and the first floor. Click on APPLY and a preview of the heights entered is shown in a reduced section. Close the window. Verify the drawing settings: Scale 1:100, Units cm, Format A3 Set the planning stage to Plan DEFINITE DESIGN. (Note: the format is represented by the rectangle already shown in the drawing window). And activate the ground floor in the storey's window. Roland Messerli AG 3

5 CREATE THE STRUCTURE Choose the RECTANGLE tool to draft the perimeter of the house. Click to a point somewhere in the screen to enter the lower left corner of the rectangle, and then enter the digits for the upper right corner by typing 800,700. Select CREATE STRUCTURE from the AR-toolbar on the left. Adjust the wall gauge from 35 cm to 30 and leave the mask with OK, and then click on the polygon. Roland Messerli AG 4

6 NAVIGATION Press and hold the mouse-wheel and move the mouse. The model is shown in 3D. Now, click on SOLID DESIGN MODEL for a shaded view. By scrolling the mouse wheel you can zoom in or out for a better view. Solid Model Wire Frame Now, restore the standard view by clicking on IMAGE START POINT and set the representation mode from Solid to WIRE MODEL. Roland Messerli AG 5

7 SURROUNDINGS Now you will create a simple volume which represents the surrounding area. Draw the outline by the help of guides. Click on PARALLEL STRAIGHTS: And then enter 400 for the distance and click close to each side of the house. Open the layer manager: Activate the layer SURROUNDINGS with a click on the sloped rectangle close to the "eye": It should be marked with a pencil when active. Roland Messerli AG 6

8 Start DEFINE BOX from the left toolbar. In the upper right corner, set the box properties to a green colour, lower height to 200 and the upper height to -5. Verify that the input mode to define the outline is set to DRAW. You want to draw a rectangle. Hit the [TAB]-key to make the Input Assistant appear at the tip of the cursor. Select RECTANGLE and click on the two corners. Now draw a second rectangle to define the inner outline. Hit [TAB] again to select the input mode. Hit Esc to stop the function. Verify the result again in the 3D view (Wire Frame and Solid). Then return to Start Position / Wire Frame. Roland Messerli AG 7

9 CREATING THE ROOF Change the actual work plane with a right-click on the first floor in the Storey's window and choose "< House / NF > Isolate". Everything drawn on the first floor is visible now, the rest is hidden. Create an outline of the roof by using the PARALLEL-CONTOUR tool. Set a distance of 60 cm in the properties-bar in the upper left corner. Click near the outside of the wall which is used as the reference contour. With a second click you define, whether the outline should be generated on the outside or the inside of the reference contour. Roland Messerli AG 8

10 Now open the CREATE ROOF tool. Change the roof type to "Shed", the entry mode to "Create from existing outline", the height to 180 and the angle to 10 degrees. Click on the outline to be used as the roofs contour. Then, click on the upper, inner corners, to indicate, where the given height shall be calculated. Check the result in the 3D view. Choose the Solid Model view either by clicking on the appropriate icon as before; or, use [Ctrl]+[D] to switch between Wire Frame and Solid Model. Note that the walls adapt automatically to the roof. 11 LAYOUT THE INTERIOR SPACES The interior spaces on the ground floor are defined by the position of the stairs. The staircase's walls divide the living space into four zones: Display the ground floor alone. Right-click on the appropriate icon of the Storey Manager and choose "isolate". Use the PARALLEL STRAIGHTS again to draw a set of guides for the layout of the interior elements. Enter the distances 360,90 (omit spacing) and click on the inside of the left wall. Overwrite the previous entry with 120,240 and click on the inside of the upper wall. Roland Messerli AG 10

12 CREATING A STAIR Open the CREATE STAIR mask. Enter the values: Width = 90 Number of steps = 15 Step depth = 24 Open the 4 th tab, "Bearing construction", and switch off the stringer option. Switch to the last tab, "Plan graphics", and set the representation mode for the upper floor to full view. Roland Messerli AG 11

13 Look at the illustration in the first tab again. The two numbers show how to position the stairs in your plan. Click on the corresponding points in the plan. Click to the right to indicate on which side of the points the stair shall be created. Close the stair mask. Roland Messerli AG 12

14 Now you will draw the wall on the left side of the stairs. Click on CREATE WALL. The main properties show up in the upper left corner. Set the width to 10. Start the wall on the intersection of the left guide with the upper wall. Then double click on the endpoint of the stairs to set the wall length. Now click to the left to set the direction of the wall width. Draw a second wall on the right side of the stairs. Start with the stair and end (double-click) at the intersection of the two guides in the lower right side. Finally set the direction of the wall width. Roland Messerli AG 13

15 CREATING THE WINDOWS Click on CREATE WINDOW and enter the settings in the properties on the upper left. Width = 180, Height = 210, Parapet wall height = 0 Click to the upper left corner of the wall to position the window, and then click on the left wall to determine in which part of the wall the window has to be inserted. With third click on the outside of the wall the window will be created. Create a second, identical window on the opposite side in the lower right corner. Now change the window width to 350 and position it on the lower left corner in the lower wall. Finally add the window for the kitchen with the following dimensions: Width = 120, Height = 100, Parapet wall height = 110 And position it somewhere near the middle of the right wall. 17 CREATING A DOOR Start CREATE DOOR and set the properties for the main door: Width = 90, Height = 210 You want to position the door in a 10 cm distance from the upper right corner in the right wall. Zoom in to the corner, move the cursor close to the corner and wait a moment, until a orange mark appears. Then move the cursor a short length downwards and enter 10 to define the position of the door stop. Now indicate to which side the door opens. Move the cursor inside, and then outside the wall to understand the behaviour of the function. Click when the graphic appears correctly. Verify the result in the solid model view. 18 COPY TO ANOTHER FLOOR Everything you created in one floor can be easily copied to another floor. Set the first floor as the active work plane by clicking on its symbol in the Storey's window. The entire model is now visible. Start the function COPY INTO ACTIVE STOREY. Copy each window by clicking on it. Change the display mode to Wire Frame and copy the two interior walls in the same way. Cancel the function. Roland Messerli AG 17

19 Back in the Solid Model View, look at the right wall. The copy of the kitchen window in the upper floor has to be adjusted to fit under the roof. Click on it to see the properties-bar, and then adjust the height of the parapet-wall from 110 to 90. Proceed in the same way for the last window on the left side in the bedroom. Change the height to 160. For the next step, right-click the ground floor in the Storey Manager and set it to "Isolate". Switch the display mode to Wire Frame with [Ctrl]+[D] and set the zoom to IMAGE START POINT with [Ctrl]+[Blank]. Roland Messerli AG 18

20 FINISHING THE GROUND FLOOR Room Labels Click on DEFINE ROOM(S) and verify if "Living" is set as actual room name in the properties bar in the upper left corner (if not, choose it from the dropdown menu). Place the room label in front of the big window in the lower left. Furnishing Open the library manager. Switch to the directory "Furniture_3D" > "groups" and select "sofa04". Roland Messerli AG 19

21 In the libraries toolbar choose ROTATE COUNTER CLOCK-WISE and MIRROR HORIZONTAL, and then position the sofa in the living room. Cancel the function, select the smaller sofa and delete it with [Del] or click on DELETE and confirm with YES. Get back to the library and choose "table04" and position it in the lower right corner. Open the library "kitchen_3d" > "poggenpohl" > "high_cab_221". Look for the tall cupboard unit "009_60", select it, rotate it counter clockwise by 90 and position it at the end of the inner wall. Proceed in the same way with the other cupboard units, "011_60", "009_60", "009_60". Roland Messerli AG 20

22 Switch to the base units in the directory "under_cupboard_78". Start with 004_35, rotate it and place it on the upper intersection of the guide with the wall, and then proceed with 019_60, 024_120, 013_60. Select the Solid Model display and compare your work with the picture below. To give you an idea about the rendering possibilities in EliteCAD see the rendered picture of the same model aside (rendering will be discussed in a later workshop). Solid Model (Rendered picture) Now switch to the upper floor (right-click on the storey's icon and "isolate") and set the display mode to Wire Frame. Roland Messerli AG 21

23 FINISHING THE FIRST FLOOR Click on the wall left to the stairs. Handles appear, showing its end-points. Grip the handle near the stair's end and drag it down to the inner side of the exterior wall. The wall is still selected; adopt its properties by clicking on ADOPT PARAMETERS which lets you draw a new wall instantly. Draw the wall behind the stairs. To start, click on the left endpoint of the first step, then double-click on the end of the wall on the right and with another click on the upper side indicate the direction of the wall's width. Proceed in the same way for the next wall. Roland Messerli AG 22

24 To finish the staircase, a small parapet wall is needed. Open the wall's parameter window. Change the height reference to "Wall from floor" and set the height to 100 and check the parapet option. Now create the wall in the same manner as before. The stairs arriving from the ground floor needs an opening in the concrete slab of the upper floor. Roland Messerli AG 23

25 Select the slab by clicking on its border. As the outlines of the wall and the slab are superposed, you have to specify which element you want to modify. In the selection window, switch to the appropriate element with the little arrow in the lower right corner of the window. Click again on the outline and then press the Tab-key. The input assistant flashes up at the cursor's position. Choose REDUCE POLYGON, and then press the tab-key again and choose RECTANGLE. Draw the opening. Roland Messerli AG 24

26 INNER DOORS Click on CREATE DOOR and set the parameters: Width = 80, Height = 200 Position the two doors in the walls where you like and indicate the opening direction. THE SURFACES IN THE FIRST FLOOR To have the floor covering calculated correctly, it is necessary to have either walls defining the border of a floor or, as it is the case at the stair's landing, to draw a separation line (imagine a wall of 0 heights and 0 widths). Click on ROOM DIVISION and select DRAW CONTOUR. Draw the line by indicating where to start and click twice on the endpoint. Roland Messerli AG 25

27 Now you can label the rooms. Click on ROOM, choose "Bedroom" from the dropdown menu and label the left room. Type "Gallery" in the input field and position the label in the room on the right, use the temporary guides to position it on the same horizontal line as the bedroom's label. Prior to label the bathroom we want to specify the appearance of the floor finishing material. Therefore, open the parameter window in the upper left. Set the name to "Bathroom" and the floor material to "Tiles". Then mark and delete the existing texture. Enter the colour number 310 instead. Position the label vertically above the one of the gallery. Close the window und cancel the room labeling function. Roland Messerli AG 26

28 DOOR PARAMETERS Switch on all views and delete the guides. Rotate your model into 3D and switch to Solid Mode. Look at the door. Mark the door and lift the doorstep by 10 cm. Open the parameter window and then the door panel settings. Set the opening angle to 0. Quit both windows with OK and click on CANCEL to deselect the door. Roland Messerli AG 27

29 Mark the slab in the first floor. In the properties bar activate the function SLAB-OFFSET. Enter a distance of 12 cm for the parallel size reduction and cancel the function. Roland Messerli AG 28

30 RAFTERS To generate the rafters, open the TRUSS window. Modify the values for left and right offset to 92, confirm with APPLY. Click on the roof and cancel the function. SAVE You have successfully completed the first stage of your house-design. Save your work under a name of your choice with FILE > SAVE AS... Roland Messerli AG 29

31 PART II - VIEWS GENERATING FLOOR PLANS You will find the function in the dropdown menu of the Views Manager. Use this function to generate the plans of the ground floor and the first floor. The Views Manager stores them in the appropriate section, "Plan Views". Roland Messerli AG 30

32 DIMENSIONS Click on the ground floor plan (GF) in the Views Manager to complement it with dimensions. First, set some guides for a good positioning of the dimensions. Click on PARALLEL STRAIGHTS and enter 200,100. Now click to the right, and then to the lower border of the outside wall. Start the function DIMENSION CHAIN and in the properties bar in the upper left, select the parameter group 1. Click on the left and the right lower corner of the house and position it on the outer guide. To draw the analogue dimension on the right side, click again on DIMENSION CHAIN and then indicate the two points on the corners of the wall. Roland Messerli AG 31

33 To draw the secondary dimensions, click again on DIMENSION CHAIN and choose parameter group 2 in the properties bar. Still in the properties bar, specify that you want to draw dimensions which also show the vertical values of the openings. Click on OPENING DIMENSION / SET DEFINITION LINE. Click on the two lower corners of the wall again and position the dimension on the inner guide. Restart the function (click on DIMENSION CHAIN, and then on OPENING DIMENSION) for the other secondary dimension chain. Delete the guides. Roland Messerli AG 32

34 GENERATING THE ELEVATIONS In the Views Manager, open the Design-model view "Side view right". In the Views Manager tool bar, click on NEW VIEW. The parameter window for the view appears. Enter the name "EAST ELEVATION". Verifiy that the options "Vector shadow" is checked and that "Light source" is set to "Side right". Click OK to generate view. You will find it in the Views Manager under "Views". Roland Messerli AG 33

35 Set the active layer to Surroundings by selecting it from the dropdown menu in the frame of the main window. We want to hatch the "artificial" terrain. Start AUTOMATIC HATCH and choose "Subsoil-infill" from the dropdown menu in the properties bar, and then click in the rectangle. Arrange the view with elements from the library. Open the library and look for the directory "surroundings > trees > view". Select "tree038_h0500" and position it on the right side of the view. Cancel the function and go back to the "Design-model" view. Change the display mode to Wire Frame. Roland Messerli AG 34

36 CREATING A SECTION In the Views Manager select NEW SECTION from the dropdown menu. The parameter window opens, confirm the actual settings with OK. Define the section line with two clicks. It should cut through the stairs. Then indicate the direction in which you want to look at the section. The new section is stored in the sections folder of the Views Manager. with the name A-A. Open the view. As for the elevation before, switch the active layer to "Surroundings" in the dropdown menu in the main window frame. Start the MANUAL HATCH function. Now click on all three surfaces to be hatched. End the function with END HATCH. Roland Messerli AG 35

37 Change the active layer to "Roof". Start AUTOMATIC HATCH and set the hatch-pattern to "Black". Click in the roof contour and cancel the function. Roland Messerli AG 36

38 HEIGHT MARKS IN THE SECTION You will find the function on the dimension toolbar. (In case you want to choose a symbol from the library, open the parameter window in the upper left corner and browse through the directory C:\Program Files\EliteCAD12AR\u\1200\ar\glob\symbol_en) Click on the roof ridge and indicate the position of the arrow (pointing down- or upwards) with a second click. To position it, move the cursor near to the ridge's mark until a temporary vertical guide is shown and click on the intersection of the guides. Indicate the arrow's position. Continue with a height marker for the upper eaves edge. Position two other markers in the same manner to indicate the heights of the finished floors on the first and the ground floor. Switch the view to Design-model. Roland Messerli AG 37

39 CREATING A PERSPECTIVE Start the function VIEW POINT, click in the lower right of the screen to define the standpoint (SP) and enter 170 for the height in the input box. Place the view point in the middle of the building and enter the height 170. The camera menu appears. The display changes into a four-window view, with the perspective in the lower right, the two lateral projections above and the vertical projection or "plan view" on the lower left. You can zoom within each window. Move the cursor over the vertical projection and zoom out (use the scroll wheel) until you can see the camera icon to its full extent. Now, move the cursor to the perspective view and open the options menu with a right-click and select "Solid design model". Go back to the plan view, and then adjust the camera's aperture angle by moving the handles. Adjust the height in one of the upper windows by moving the central handle. When satisfied with the preview, leave the camera menu with OK. Roland Messerli AG 38

40 To save the view, open the create-view dropdown menu from the Views Manager and select "New model view". Enter the name "Perspective" for the view, set the scale to 1:200 and the Visualization parameters to "optimal" and toggle "Background". Now click on the texture icon, go to the directory "Surroundings" > "Background" > "Land" and select "Land003". Confirm your entries with OK. The view is generated immediately. The background's perspective doesn't fit with the one of the model. Roland Messerli AG 39

41 ADJUSTING THE BACKGROUND PICTURE Zoom out to see the border of the image and double-click on it. Handles appear and you can define a detail of the image by dragging them. As long as the handles are visible, you may also want to reposition the object to fit better to the picture: Press and hold the wheel to rotate the object around the y-axis or the x-axis Press the wheel and hold the [Ctrl] key to shift the object in the X/Y plane Press the wheel and hold the [Shift] key to zoom-in and out continuously from the actual position. Select "Move background image" from the mouse-menu (right-click into the window). Click to the background and move it to a better position. Click again when you are satisfied and cancel the function. When you are satisfied with the result, change to Design Model View. Roland Messerli AG 40

42 APPLYING MATERIALS TO YOUR MODEL Rotate your model to a 3D view. Open the Material Window. Go to "Wood" > "Cladding" and select "Sheating004". Now simply drag the material to the surface where it should be applied to, in our case to the outer walls. Roland Messerli AG 41

43 Now go back to the root view in the Material Window and change to "Surroundings" > "Grounds" > "Lawn and Grass". Change the allocation mode from object to surface. Drag "Lawn001" to the surface of the surrounding area. > Double-click on the material in the Material Window to open it in the editor. Click on "Texture" and change the factor for "Tiled" from 50 to 200. Leave the mask with Apply and OK, and confirm the saving of the modification with Yes. Roland Messerli AG 42

44 ENHANCING WITH LIBRARY PARTS In the Storey Manager set the first floor as the active storey. Reposition the model to "Image Start Point" and change the display mode to Wire Frame. Now, you will add a person to animate the perspective. Bring the library window to fore-ground and open the directory "visualization" > "persons" > "women" Select "woman002" and position it in the gallery room close to the window. Verify the effect of the last steps. Open the perspective you had created earlier. Roland Messerli AG 43

45 LIGHT SETTINGS IN THE PERSPECTIVE Start the menu of the PARAMETERS LIGHT SOURCE. Again, a 4 windows-view opens as well as the parameters window for the light settings. Select "Environment" and reduce intensity to 20. Deselect all other light-sources and activate "Side right". This light should produce a shadow; therefore switch it on by clicking on the icon. Set the intensity to 50. You can see a preview of the results of your settings by right-clicking in the perspective window and selecting "Render model". The perspective should show the shades of the roof on the south face. Close the light's parameter-window. Roland Messerli AG 44

46 Open the visualisation settings on the toolbar in the lower left corner. Activate "Radiosity" by setting it to 60 and confirm with OK. Right-click on the name of the view and choose UPDATE VIEW AND RADIOSITY. The rendered image has improved by a more subtle representation of shades, textures and colours. Roland Messerli AG 45

47 CREATING A PLOT In the View Manager's title bar select "New plot view" from the dropdown menu. Enter the name, "Project" and set the format to A3. In the upper menu bar go to "Execute" > DIN Format and choose A3. This will draw a rectangle to define the borders of the chosen format. Hit [Enter] to confirm the format. Roland Messerli AG 46

48 Again in the menu bar under "Execute" click on "Place title block". Open the directory "en" and choose "titel_block_2". Position it in the lower right corner. Still from the same menu, choose "Complete title block". Fill in the empty fields as you like and confirm with OK. Now, drag and drop your plans from the Views Manager to the plot view. Arrange them by simply clicking on the respective view and then moving it to the right place with the "move" function in the main toolbar or in the context menu. Roland Messerli AG 47

49 SWITCHING OFF PARTS IN A VIEW The plan of the first floor shows the rafters. You don't want to see them on that plot. Click on the first floor plan in the Views Manager. Bring the layer window to the fore-ground, and then switch off the layer "Wood construct" (click on the "eye"). The layer-filter function remembers for each and any type of view which layer is set to visible. Now change to the ground floor plan view. A warning flashes up: "Filter modified?" Confirm that you want to keep the new settings. The plan of the ground floor shows up. Switch off the layer "Surroundings". Change to the plot view and confirm that you want to keep the new settings for the ground floor view. Layer "Wood construction" visible Layer "Wood construction" invisible Roland Messerli AG 48

50 LETTERING THE PLANS IN THE PLOT Click on CREATE TEXT. In the properties bar adjust the text height to 5 and set the text reference point to "upper left". Click on the lower left corner of the section's frame, and then type the name "Section A-A". Do the same with the lateral view; type EAST ELEVATION. Switch back to the Design model view. 51 Subdivision of WINDOWS Rotate the model to see it in 3D, and then activate the Solid model display mode (lower toolbar or [Ctrl]+[D]). Click on the window in the first floor. The properties bar appears. Click on the window subdivision / muntins tool. Select HORIZONTAL DIVISION. Set the dimensions to 6x6. Click in the window at a height of around 90cm. 52 The lower window is a fixed sash. Start the window subdivision / muntins tool. Select CASEMENT and click on the lower part. Close the mask with Apply and OK. Reopen the plot. Refresh the views in order to see the effect of the modifications of the model there. Right-click on the plot-name and select UPDATE VIEW AND RADIOSITY. Roland Messerli AG 51

53 After the refresh-function has terminated, right-click on the plot (main window) and select PRINT PREVIEW from the context menu. Congratulations! 56 DRAWING SETTINGS Format Set the format that appears as a rectangle in the screen. It shows you where your drawing is in relation to format and scale. TOOL BARS HANDLING Click-hold the mouse button on a tool button will make the complete tool set appear and you can select the tool you need. Always the last tool selected is shown on the tool bar. If you want to keep the tool set permanently visible, click-hold the icon on the tool bar, and move the pointer over the tool set forth and back. Now the tool set is fully visible. Unlike the temporary guides produced by the cursor, they remain in the drawing, until you delete them with the appropriate command. The guides come as straights or cercles. You can create them from a given point in the drawing by entering a distance or angle etc. Like normal elements, they get part of the active layer when created. 59 1. First create a cross of two guides, one with 0 and one with 90. Click on the function STRAIGHT WITH GIVEN ANGLE AND 1 POINT. The input box appears in the upper left corner. Enter the numbers separated by a comma. Now, click to a point in the screen and the guides will be created. TIP If you want the given point to be in the midth of the format, press [Ctrl] [1] (the 1 on the standard keys, not the one on the numeric pad). 2. Draw four vertical parallels at a distance of 200 cm. Use the function STRAIGHT PARALLELS. Enter 200 for the distance and 4 for the number of copies. Click near to the verticale line on the side where you want the parallels to appear. 3. The distance between horizontal lines varies. You can draw them one by one or, like before, enter the distances separated by a comma. In that case be aware to set the number of copies back to 1. Roland Messerli AG 58

60 To avoid that the guides are generated vertically again, click far enough from the verticals to an accurate point above the horizontal guide. 4.
