Read ALL the questions carefully. Number the answers according to the numbering system used in this question paper. Use BOTH sides of the drawing paper. ALL the drawings must be done to the required scale. All the drawings must be neatly finished off with descriptive notes, titles and scales to conform with the SANS Recommended Practice for Building Drawings. Use your own discretion where dimensions are not given. A balanced layout must be maintained. All work you do not want to be marked must be clearly crossed out. Work neatly.

4 ( ) -3- T180(E)(M29)T QUESTION 1: PITCH ROOF WITH BROSELEY TILES A house needs to be provided with a pitch roof covered with Broseley tiles. Draw, to scale 1 : 10, a vertical section through ONE HALF of the roof. The drawing must include tile details up to the ridge tile, the ridge rafter and a section through the gutter, swan neck and downpipe. The wall below the wall plate must be equivalent to SIX layers of brickwork. 5 ( ) -4- T180(E)(M29)T QUESTION 2: WOODEN STAIRS WITH OPEN RISERS A mezzanine floor needs to be provided with a wooden staircase from ground floor to the mezzanine floor. The stairs consists of wooden treads and a square steel tube stringer with open risers. The treads are fixed to the stringer by means of mild steel angle-iron brackets. The angle iron is welded to the stringer. Draw, to scale 1: 10, a vertical section through the staircase. The drawing must include the details of the stringer, THREE treads, the angle-iron brackets, part of the mezzanine floor and part of the ground floor. The drawing must include the stirrups, the compression rods, the tension rods and the concrete cover. Do not include any hatching on the drawing.
