2 Class Notes Page 2 Re-doing an assignment Tuesday, September 24, :26 AM If you don't receive an assignment when I hand them back to the class: I didn't grade because I didn't have it. You currently have a zero for that assignment. You're falling behind. Re-doing an assignment that's been graded: Eligible if the grade is 80% or less. May earn additional credit, but not full credit. Process 1. Create an entirely new drawing with your corrections. 2. Print it out. 3. Staple on top of your first submittal. 4. Place it in the hand in folder.

8 Fixing parts Monday, September 16, :05 PM All sketches should be used up to make a 3D feature (like extrusion). Extra Unused sketches may cause problems in working with your part Right click in the browser bar and delete. Wrong dimensions in your part Either it s the original sketch OR it s the original feature (extrusion, revolve, etc.). You shouldn't [often can't] change an existing feature with a new sketch. Edit SKETCH- Will change something that happened in the 2D world (ex. Geometry like lines, arcs, circles) Right click on the sketch in the browser bar. Choose Edit Sketch from the menu. Edit FEATURE - Will change something 3D about the object (ex. An extrusion depth, a fillet radius, a hole diameter or depth, etc) Right click on the feature in the browser bar. 9 Geometric constraints Thursday, October 03, :26 AM Inventor guesses what you want and puts in controls that are called Geometric or Two-dimensional constraints. These controls (constraints) can be removed (or added) by you. Show all constraints Deleting a constraint Creating a constraint Circles and arc all have a center point which can be constrained. 10 Work Planes Friday, October 14, :03 PM 1. It s a 3 Click process: 1. Plane: What you want 2. Facing: Which way you want it to face 3. Location: Where you want it In the toolbar, Select plane 2. In the browser bar, Expand the origin; Select a plane to determine facing 3. 11 Sweeps Friday, October 11, :57 AM Create a sketch and make the path first. Create a work plane oriented perpendicular to the plane of your first sketch. Click on the end of your path to place the work plane. Place a 2nd sketch on the work plane. Problems with Sweeps? If the sweep won't start: Be sure both sketches are NOT in the same plane. Be sure the profile in the 2nd sketch intersects the path. If the sweep won't finish: Eliminate splits in the path. Be sure there are no gaps in your path. Be sure there is enough room for the profile. Problems: tight curves, spline overlaps. Move the view around until you can see the new sketch and the path. Select Project Geometry, and click on the end of the your path. You should see a small yellow cross. Class Notes Page 11

13 Class Notes Page 13 Splines Friday, October 17, :36 PM Use more than one spline to duplicate a complex curved object. Any place there is a point on the object should be the end of a line or spline. Try moving the curve points to a different place on the spline. Use handles on a curve point to change the angle and distance of tangency. Add or Delete curve points. Use straight lines combined with your splines. Add dimensional constraints to control the size of your shapes. Add geometric constraints to control the behavior of your shapes. Place a sketch on that plane. Insert image Find and choose your file You can re-size and move the image by grabbing the corners. You can also right-click, on the image, and choose properties

You need to insure that you incorporate that information into your project Write down all design constraints on the edges of your sketch. THEN, draw an arrow on your sketch from the constraint to where your design addresses those constraints. Design Proposal Create a document in MS Word in draft form. Write down all the requirements you've been given so far. Write down all your good ideas Write down design ideas. Be prepared to modify as you build and test your design. Write down the improvements you think you need. Research Pictures Internet 1. RightClick on internet picture, save as a JPEG or JPG file. 2. Open Word document. 3.
