4 ACOLYTE INFORMATION TO REMEMBER 1. YOU MUST GET A SUBSTITUTE (see back side for names and phone numbers) and notify the church office ( ext. 2110) at least a week before the service if you cannot serve and with the substitute s name. 2. You are important for setting our service atmosphere. DRESS CODE: GIRLS ~ nice blouse and skirt or dress, dress shoes ~ sandals need to have a back strap; BOYS ~ sport shirt or shirt and tie, dress slacks, dark socks, and dress shoes. No flip flops or tennis shoes. 3. Be prompt (20 minutes) before service time. 4. Check your appearance after putting on a robe. 5. Check for any notes taped to the robe door. 6. ALWAYS check with Pastor for any special instructions. 7. The elder on duty/church custodian will light the candle and change the oil in the torchlighter. 8. Conversation in sacristy and behind the altar should be kept very low or none. 9. LIGHTING CANDLES ~ 5 minutes before the start of the service, come out to light the candles. 10. After returning the torchlighters to the sacristy, sit in the front pews by the middle aisle ~ one person on each side of. Participate in the church service. 11. Extinguish candles after the pastor and all other worship leaders (such as crucifer and torchbearers, choir members if they are up front, etc.) have left the sanctuary. 12. Neatly rehang your robe so that it does not wrinkle. 13. Report problems encountered to the pastor or elder on duty. 14. Don't touch the candle wicks with your torchlighter (when putting them out). It will break the wick and make the candle impossible to light. 15. If you cannot light a candle, move to the next candle. 16. Members of the Board of Elders will be keeping a close watch on acolyting activities during the scheduled period. 17. Just a reminder, acolyting is a required part of your confirmation class. 18. Please look over the schedule to see if there are any conflicts as soon as possible. You are to get a substitute or see if you can trade days with someone, then notify the office at ext Thank you for your help. (FYI: Pastor Burg trains acolytes while they are in sixth grade (both public school and our day school in the winter or spring of each year. He trains crucifers and torchbearers while they are in eighth grade at about the same time of the year.) If your child has missed school and/or confirmation around this time, you may wish to double check with your child to see if he or she has been trained. If not, contact Pastor Burg ( , ext. 2115)
5 SUBSTITUTE LIST Please see if there is a Sunday or Wednesday you can switch with someone and call that person or call one of your friends off the list, just do not start from the top and go down. Thanks for your cooperation.
