16 Success? Take it from them Watching my apprentice fledge from an intermediate glass maker to a real journey man was amazingly exciting. It has inspired me to revisit my old sketchbook. It has reminded me how short life is, and how important it is to make your own dreams come true. When you spend 7 months encouraging a young person to do just that, at some point you scratch your head and say oh yeah that IS a good idea! To think of myself as a master of my craft has been a new concept, one that fills me with pride and drive and to share my experience into other teaching opportunities as my career continues to unfold. 17 Throughout the apprenticeship I encountered challenges...that forced me to think about the glass in new ways and challenge me as a glass artist. To write about them all could fill a novel. Seven months ago being a professional glassblower seemed impossible, and now I truly feel like becoming a professional artisan is actually an attainable goal for me. 18 It also gave me new insights into ways of teaching, that are leading me to change both my approach to teaching and to making. Verbalizing and demonstrating these and many skills to Rose gave me personally a much deeper understanding of my craft than if I had simply accomplished this on my own.
