In 1988, a partially disturbed tomb from the 2nd dyna,- 1i))jwas found in the Prorodynastic cemetery discovered Il1Jhort time earlier at Tell Ibrahiin Awad in the central part of the Eastern Nile Delta 1 (Van den Brink 1992). Although not intact (the body had been removed), quite a number of objects was still present (PI. 5). Among these were a rotal number of29 more or less complete small vessels, imitating in their tlhm contemporary cylinder-shaped calcite \"... e., 2. To emphasize this, they were covered with a yellowish slip3. Apart from these imitations, there wa, one medium-sized tine. calcite cylinder still present in this looted tomb as well (No. B 2Oo/t , PI. 3). The imitations were produced on the slow wheel, except for the hand-formed bases, and all of a Nile Clay I B 2 fabric 4. All have vertical or oblique scrape marks, indicative fot the last pre-tlring production stage.
