1 To Live Forever: Egyp/an Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum This exhibition explores concepts of the afterlife as revealed in the art of ancient Egyptians of all classes. Mummy Mask of a Man Roman Period, early 1st century c.e. Stucco, gilded and painted Egyptian Beliefs About the Afterlife Anthropoid Coffin of the Servant of the Great Place, Teti New Kingdom, mid to late Dynasty 18 (ca B.C.E) Wood, paint The exhibition begins with two stone sarcophagus lids, examples of expensive tomb objects made for the elite. The less wealthy made sarcophagi from wood or even terracotta. Sarcophagus Lid of Pa-di-Djehuti From el-tarmakiya, Egypt Egyptian beliefs about the Afterlife derive from the story of the god Osiris, who with his wife Isis were Egypt s first rulers.
