Al-Rushaid wished the DMDs, who recently retired, with the best of luck and success in their lives. The event took place during a ceremony held by KOC at the Missoni Hotel in the attendance of the Company s senior officials, where Al-Rushaid and the outgoing DMDs recalled their memories over the decades that they have of time spent with the Company in cooperation and mutual solidarity in service to Kuwait and KOC. Mohammad Hussain, former DMD for Exploration and Production Development Khaled Al-Sumaiti, and Former DMD for Administration and Finance Khaled Al-Khamees. Following the chairman s comments, the outgoing DMDs expressed their pride in belonging to KOC and the great satisfaction they had in regard to the expertise and achievements that they were able to accomplish during their long-time service in the Company. They also wished KOC more success on the local, regional and international levels and urged colleagues to put in their time and effort for the benefit of the Company. On the conclusion of the ceremony, Hussain, Al- Sumaiti and Al-Khamees were presented with commemorative gifts consisting of albums of their respective work within the Company. They were also presented with the traditional blue work overalls signed by KOC s higher management and managers. 2 Al-Zanki: Formidable Challenges Ahead CEO meets newly appointed DMDs The Kuwait Oil Company recently hosted a meeting involving the Chief Executive Officer of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) Farouk Al- Zanki and the newly appointed DMDS, along with a number of officials who have recently been redeployed across the oil sector. Speaking at the start of the meeting, the CEO welcomed the officials who have been promoted to the position of DMD and those who have assumed new duties after their redeployment. Noting that KPC faces formidable challenges, Al-Zanki expressed confidence that those challenges can be overcome through cooperation and coordination among K-Companies, as well as by performing as a team in order to realize KPC s strategy as planned. In the same vein, the KPC Managing Director for Planning Abdulatiff Al- Houti asserted that the meeting is aimed at briefing the officials about the Planning Sector and the five-year plan, in addition to highlighting the challenges and the best ways of surmounting them. During the meeting, the Planning Sector action plan was discussed as well as its role and vision with regard to the actualization of KPC Strategy. KOC Takes Part in OTC 2013 Event takes place in Houston, Texas Kuwait Oil Company recently participated in the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC 2013), which took place in Houston, Texas, USA from May 6-9. The conference is the offshore oil and gas industry s foremost event for the development of hydrocarbon resources in the areas of drilling, environmental protection, exploration, production development, innovation and technology. The KOC delegation included DMD (Planning & Commercial) Ahmed Al- Rasheed and DMD (North Kuwait) Hosnia Hashem along with a large number of employees representing different Teams. 2

3 NK Teams Win Chairman s Award of Excellence Al-Rushaid: Your achievements exceeded my expectations Chairman and Managing Director Sami Al-Rushaid recently awarded eight North Kuwait Teams with the Chairman s Award of Excellence. In a speech he delivered on the occasion, the C&MD expressed profound gratitude for the efforts that have been made by the eight teams and described the accomplishments as spectacular. Al-Rushaid encouraged the winning teams to redouble their efforts to achieve more. He added that Kuwait Oil Company can overcome the challenges it is faced with through hard work, cooperation and coordination, and he affirmed that the achievements registered by NK have exceeded his expectations. For her part, DMD North Kuwait Hosnia Hashem singled out the Maintenance Support & Reliability Team and Operations Technical Service Team, praising them for the improvements they have introduced to NK s shutdown performance. She added, Since 2011, NK s shutdown performance has steadily improved. Today, NK is the standard of shutdown excellence that others are learning from and striving to emulate. Hashem also noted that these efforts also allowed KOC to produce an additional 4.24 million barrels of oil during 2012 and 2013 and that NK reduced the time for GC major shutdowns to 35 days from 49 days. Reservoir Studies Team Leader Bader Al-Saad thanked the Senior Management for their continuous support and commended everyone who contributed to this success. Toward the end of the ceremony, the Chairman awarded plaques to the winning teams in the presence of a number of DMDs, Managers and Team Leaders. 3

4 Marine Certification Renewal Program for Ship Captains, Guiding Officers Program executed by T&CD Group In collaboration with the Petroleum Training Center, the Training & Career Development Group executed a program for marine certification renewal for eight ship captains and guiding officers in the Marine Operations Group. A similar program was also organized for captains working for the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC), in conjunction with the Egypt based Academy for Sciences, Technology and Marine Transportation. At least 32 ship captains were involved in the program. The spirit of teamwork and cooperation prevailed in order to ensure the success of the training program which involves both theoretical and practical aspects. The program was done in two phases; the first took place at the Petroleum Training Center, while the second took place at the Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology and Marine Transportation in Alexandria. In this context, the Acting Manager of Training & Career Development Saeed Al-Mutairi thanked all concerned KOC Groups and Teams as well all those involved in the program for their close cooperation and tireless efforts to ensure the success of the program. Al-Mutairi affirmed the Group s eagerness on such specialized programs for their role in achieving the Company s strategic objectives. KOC Participates in SEG Workshop Employees present information at workshop in Dubai The Field Development Groups of the S&E and WK Directorates recently participated in a workshop organized by the US-based Society of Exploration Geophysicists in Dubai. The Groups presented three working papers highlighting a number of achievements accomplished at the Minagish and Burgan fields. They also organized a workshop themed The Geologic Direction and the Situation of a Well in Poor Reservoirs with the Collaboration of Regional and International Companies in a session presided over by Gas Development TL Abdul Aziz Al-Failakawi. During the workshop, a number of KOC employees presented their materials, including Nasser Al-Khaleefa, whose survey was titled Geologic Direction with Advanced Recording Technology Upon Drilling which dealt with real-time management at Um Ghudair field in West Kuwait. Adnan Al- Shamali s survey was titled A New Technology Direction Using Gas Data when Drilling Jurassic Wells an Elevated Angle. In the third survey, Adnan Al-Failakawi presented information from material titled Drilling Techniques at the First Multilateral Well at Burgan Field and discussed the motivation behind adopting such technology when investing in complex and noncoherent sand units to form the Higher Burgan. 4

Al-Sardi, who was commenting on the content of a presentation addressing the students of the Oil Engineering School of Kuwait University about the Engineer s Guide Program, said that there was a mechanism which engineers - either graduates or trainees - could refer to at any time to find ways and means of achieving works and acquire the necessary expertise that could only be obtained by practical performance. He maintained that KOC was keen to take advantage of a large number of engineers experiments and include them within a programmed curriculum to enable engineers to cut short a necessary period of 10 years of practice in only one single year. On his side, the Rector of the Engineering & Petrol School Dr. Hussain Al- Khayyat said that the program abstracts data and expertise in an organized way and provides all the needed requirements related to the design, construction and monitoring of projects. He added that its contents dealt with all the required specializations for any project. The presentation was conducted by Specialist (1) Fakher Al-Zalzalah, from the TE Team and organized by Senior Training Officer Ahmad Al- Zankawi and Training Officer Ahmad Abbas, from the Career Development & Planning Team. At the outset of the presentation, Al-Sardi delivered key notes about the oil sector and KPC and its subsidiaries. He also urged students to bring up whatever questions they have in mind in order to find a way to reach a dialogue. The event was attended by KOC Major Projects (3) Group Manager Yacoub Dashti and the Assistant Rector for Consultations & Development Dr. Adam Al-Mulla. 5

Work at the site was accomplished in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity & Water. The tanks themselves were repainted and slogans which encourage citizens to conserve electricity and water can now be seen on the tanks, which reflect the safety standards observed by KOC in regard to Company installations and employees. The work at Sabahiya Water Station was coordinated with the Ministry s Assistant Undersecretary for Water Operating & Maintenance, Eng. Mohammad Boushahri, and supervised by KOC DMD (P&C) Captain Ahmad Al-Rasheed, Marine Operations Group Manager Eng. Hasan Al- Bairami, Snr. Eng. (Marine Maintenance) Rashed Al-Qallaf and Marine Maintenance Eng. Mohammad Abdul-Ghafoor. Upon receiving Eng. Boushahri at his office, Cpt. Al-Rasheed expressed his gratitude for the role the Ministry played and the personal support provided by the Assistant Undersecretary in order to accomplish this mission and achieve its desired goals. SPWLA Holds 3rd Meeting Dr. Mohiuddin makes presentation The Kuwait Chapter of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) recently held their monthly meeting where Principal Geomechanics Engineer, Dr. Mohammed Mohiuddin of Schlumberger gave a presentation titled Geomechanics Applications to Drilling, Hydraulic Fracture Design, Completion Integrity and Reservoir Management. Dr. Mohiudden spoke about how geomechanical models require quantification of in-situ stresses, pore pressure and rock properties. He explained that carbonate and tight gas reservoirs are usually heterogeneous in nature. Meanwhile, the presenter noted that spatial and time dependent changes of geomechanical properties throughout the life of the field gain importance. He added that modeling the complex subsurface conditions and properties through the overburden and reservoir enables the subsequent geomechanic analyses, hydraulic fracture design and completion integrity. The meeting was attended by a host of petrophysicists and engineers representing various oil companies in Kuwait. At the conclusion of the presentation, SPWLA Kuwait Chapter President Salem Al-Sabea awarded the presenter with a gift as a token of appreciation for participating. Both sides also exchanged ideas and agreed on deepening relations in order to realize the stated goals. KOC has also put forth a wide range of proposals to be implemented in the foreseeable future. In a speech he delivered on this occasion, Al-Khatrash thanked the winners for their genuine efforts and care about their gardens, as well as the judges and administrators and all those who contributed to make the contest a success. He also expressed gratitude vis-à-vis the support offered by the Public Authority for Agriculture & Fishery Resources. Al-Khatrash affirmed that the persistence of the support to this annual event, which is attributed to KOC, is but one of its outstanding achievements, since the Company was keen to protect the environment and encourage greenery in the city of Ahmadi. Al-Khatrash maintained that the Company was committed to continue its support to the owners of the winning gardens of the 2013 Contest and that it would provide them with distinctive services in case they participate in the contest next year. Upgrading PACS at Ahmadi Hospital Faster Turnaround of Patients Ahmadi Hospital recently witnessed an upgrading of the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) across the IT network which enables a notably faster turnaround of patients. The system allows for the reading of digital images by radiologists and the referring physician. The PACS solution was introduced in 2009 along with the Hospital Information System (HIS) and was upgraded in December 2012 to the latest version, resulting in no more hard copies of films, no storage issues, easy viewing of images across the IT network and digital manipulation of images for diagnostic readings. PACS is the first system in Kuwait which is fully integrated with HIS and is unique in that it archives non-radiology studies like echocardiography and endoscopy and brings the image to the doctor in a more convenient manner (S-cape screens - mobile and fixed) which are large HD screens that allow for the direct viewing of images in wards, casualty and theaters. Previously, doctors had to see images from their small computer screens. The new step falls in line with the efforts of the Medical Group to continuously update and upgrade healthcare technologies in order to bring the best to K-Company patients and their family members. The system was introduced as a joint venture between KOC IT and the Medical Group, which contracted the Care Stream Health, a leading provider of PACS solutions in Italy.
