18 Page 18 of 54 Drama and Theatre Studies Year 12 Subject Drama and Theatre Studies Year group 12 Our AS drama students begin their Theatre Studies course via participation in a series of content term 1 practical Key Skills workshops, whereby the teacher can assess the ability and needs for students individually to allow all to successfully access the course. Students then begin a study of two contrasting texts, resulting in the 40% written coursework. Students will need to evaluate the way they personally explored the two published plays, making reference to both physical and vocal skills utilised. Students will also need to demonstrate a contextual understanding of Social, Historical, Political and Cultural elements and the subtext behind the given language. A final draft of this coursework will need to be submitted to Miss Lawrence at Christmas. Our Year 12 students are also responsible for running and organising the Fullbrook Christmas Soiree. They will need to communicate with the A2 Drama and Students and the Year 11 GCSE Drama student to successfully collaborate and create a smooth running show. All profits made will then be donated towards A Level Drama Set designs and costumes to ensure our students are financially able to fund their own projects as desired. Students will also begin working towards Unit 2 by selecting a monologue to perform under supervision of and in agreement with Miss Lawrence. They will explore the character within the monologue and consider the set design and staging required for a successful and truthful portrayal. In this second term, students are required to complete a Written Evaluation of a Live Theatre Performance. This involves a visit to see a professional production, whereby students evaluate the skills of the actors and analyse the production values regarding the directorial concept of the piece. Our AS drama students also fully embark on the practical element of the course. Students will participate in blocking, rehearsing, directing and performing a published play, chosen and cast by Miss Lawrence or their drama teacher. The play itself will be largely directed by the drama teacher, but students are expected to co operate through contribution of their own thoughts and ideas towards the piece. The play will need to be performed to the highest standard and is often expected to reflect that of a professional theatre show. Students will perform this group piece and their monologue to an external examiner in May and the mark given for these pieces contribute to 60% of the overall AS mark. Upon completion of the Unit 2 Practical Exam and successful submission of the Unit 1 coursework, our students will then complete a series of workshops, broadening their knowledge on important theatre practitioners, preparing them for Unit 3 in A2. Students will practically investigate the origins and methods of: Constantin Stanislaski Bertolt Brecht Jacques Le Coq Antonin Artaud These workshops will be carried out under the guidance of the drama teacher and students will begin collecting research to help them determine the form and style of their Unit 3 Devising piece in the first term of A2. Miss Lawrence will also introduce students to a variety of stimuli for students to potentially base their Devising pieces on in Year 13, resulting in a summer project to research the given stimuli further. AS Drama and Theatre Studies EDEXCEL 8DR01 E Lawrence

19 Page 19 of 54 Drama and Theatre Studies Year 13 Subject Drama and Theatre Studies Year group 13 Students begin their first term of A2 Theatre Studies by presenting their summer projects, content term 1 continuing the study carried out in the summer term of AS. A final decision regarding the groupings will then be determined in agreement with Miss Lawrence. Students will then devise an original piece of theatre, inspired by the chosen stimulus and practitioners studied in AS Theatre Studies. They are expected to create characters, consider structure, design the set and costumes themselves and determine a target audience. Students are expected to maintain a rehearsal diary recording their progress in creating the piece throughout, as this will eventually contribute towards the coursework required for this unit. Students will perform their Devising piece at Christmas to a public audience. The performance is marked internally by Miss Lawrence, filmed and then sent off to the EDEXCEL Examination Board for moderation. Students will complete their first draft of the coursework over the Christmas break, titled 'The Submission of Written Evidence Document' or 'SWED'. During the second term of A2 Theatre Studies, students prepare for the Unit 4 Written Exam, as well as completing their Unit 3 Coursework. A second draft of the SWED coursework is due in by the February half term, with the submission of the final draft handed in before the Easter break. In preparation for the Unit 4 Exam, students embark on two separate areas of study: Directorial investigation into a Set Text Study of the original performance conditions of Shakespearian Theatre. In their exploration of a Set Text, students are required to think as Directors. They will study either: 'Lysistrata' by Aristophanes or 'Woyzeck' by George Buchner, and explore the chosen play from the viewpoint of a director working with a company preparing the script for performance. Students understanding of the role of a director is essential and they will hold practical workshops with peers and complete a series of written tasks in preparation for this. For the study into Original Performance Conditions, students will investigate the chaotic world of Shakespeare's Jacobean Theatre. They are required to consider the conditions that actors performed in, as well as exploring how one particular Shakespearian play was performed and perceived by audiences. A theatre trip to see this specific Shakespeare play in performance will then commence, and students will need to compare and contrast the modern performance of the play to the original performance conditions. This last term of A2 Theatre Studies consists of students refining and completing their annotated Set Text scripts and finishing their Shakespeare notes in preparation for the Unit 4 Written Exam. To help students construct their answers in the exam, they are allowed to take the following in with them: A annotated copy of the Set Text script with all student notes on their Directorial Concept. One side of A4, containing notes on the Shakespeare Play seen and commentary on Original Performance Conditions. As the Written Exam usually takes place in May/ June, students will undergo a series of Mock Written Papers to ensure full preparation and support for the exam. 29 Page 29 of 54 Humanities Geography Year 12 Subject Geography Year group 12 content term 1 Topic 1: World at Risk includes an introduction to a range of global natural hazards which threaten some areas of the world more than others and then focuses on climate change and global warming, seen by many as our greatest environmental challenge. Topic 2: Going Global brings together today s rapid economic changes which are impacting unfairly on people across the globe, and the related international issues of population change and migration. Topic 3: Crowded Coasts reveals how increasing development is testing our ability to manage these valued environments. Topic 4 Rebranding Places focuses on how we need to reimage and regenerate rural and urban places using appropriate strategies AS LEVEL Edexcel Amy Hill

30 Page 30 of 54 Geography Year 13 Subject Geography Year group 13 Energy Security content term 1 Humans use a wide range of energy sources. However, they currently depend heavily on fossil fuels; ultimately a finite resource. Students will explore the physical factors such as the geography of fossil fuels, and renewable energy potential. There will be focus upon access to energy resources and how it partly depends on physical factors, but also on the availability of capital and technology. Students will combine these factors and evaluate the results i.e why in some areas they experience energy surpluses (energy security), while other areas suffer energy deficit (energy insecurity). Water Conflicts Water, like energy, is a fundamental human need, but it is not evenly distributed. Students will explain how physical factors play a key role in determining the geography of surface and groundwater supplies, as does human management and mis-management of the water resource base. Key issues studied at a level include how the increasing demand for water, which is growing, does not match supply and this can have implications for human wellbeing will be studied in detail. Students will also study what the potential for conflict is both local and international scale. There will be focus on how in many cases water resource use exceeds recharge capacity leading to long-term degradation. Students will explore the future of water and how increasingly it is already vulnerable populations who stand to suffer the most. The Development Gap Students will discover the wealth of traditional and rising superpowers and how it contrasts sharply with the continuing poverty of some peoples and nations. Significant focus is on the gap between wealth and poverty and how it can be measured in a variety of ways as well as how it is overcome in a of sustainable methods Superpowers This topic considers how both economic and political factors impact upon how wealth is distributed. A range of nations and players are discussed and students will explore reasons why they have a disproportionate influence over regional and global decision making, The geography of power has developed over time, and continues to change and students will explain why Some nations gain power and influence, while others lose it. Equally a focus on timelines and the history of power and how it has changed over time. Case studies include rising superpowers and especially the economic rise of the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) Tectonic Hazards Students will study three key areas of this topic in detail. Places Where are the tectonically active regions of the world? People Who is affected by tectonic activity and its associated hazards? Power Who is responsible for managing the risk associated with tectonic Hazards?

31 Page 31 of 54 Biodiversity Students will study how biodiversity is a key resource that provides a range of valuable goods and critical services to human populations. There will be significant focus on biodiversity resulting from natural physical processes, and as such has distinct geographical patterns as well as Locally, where biological resources are valued short-term for their immediate economic potential, Students will explore the wide spectrum of management options, both locally and globally, each with its own merits and disadvantages whilst evaluating the need to manage and maintain biodiversity as a key challenge for the future. The technological fix This topic focuses on how humans increasingly depend on new technology, and how access to technology is closely related to level of development. Students will reach conclusions about how people have expectations that technology will help them, and solve problems, whereas others lack access to technological innovation at even basic levels. The question of who should have access to technology, and at what price, is a key one in this topic Geographical Synoptic Skills The global synoptic context sets each option within a wider context to encourage synoptic links both within this unit, and Unit 3. Each of the six research options promote in-depth research of a key area of geography. Before embarking on detailed research, students Will briefly investigate their chosen topic using the global synoptic context as a guide. A2 LEVEL Edexcel Amy Hill
