1 About the Authors Dr. Markus Bauer leads the development of SaaS solutions and the underlying platforms at CAS Software AG, Germany. He has more than 15 years of working experience on software architecture and design both as a researcher and a practitioner. Before joining CAS, he lead the software engineering research group at FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik, Karlsruhe, and received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Karlsruhe in A. 2 276 About the Authors Achim Botzenhardt is Research Associate and PhD Student at the Chair of Information Systems IV - Enterprise Systems (ERIS) at the University of Mannheim. He studied Business Informatics at the University of Mannheim with specialization in international management, marketing, and e-commerce. His specific research interest is cross-functional integration of product management and product design in software development. Prof. Dr. Sjaak Brinkkemper is Full Professor of organization and information at the Department of Information and Computing Sciences of Utrecht University, The Netherlands. He leads a group of about 35 researchers specialized in the methodology of product software development, implementation and alignment, and entrepreneurship in software ecosystems.

3 About the Authors 277 Johannes Britsch studied business administration at the University of with intercultural qualification Japanese at the University of Mannheim and Heidelberg. Beside Japanese culture and language, he specialized in marketing and international management. Since June 2010 Johannes Britsch is external Ph.D. student at the Institute for SME Research and assistant of the executive director of CAS Software AG, Karlsruhe Clemens N. Buss holds a M.Sc. in Complex Systems, having studied in Gothenburg and Rehovot, Israel and attended the HPI School of Design Thinking. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in physics at the Max-Planck-Institute in Göttingen. He is a co-founder of inventedhere.

4 278 About the Authors Katrin Dribbisch works as a Research Associate at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB). She studied political science and design thinking in Berlin, Potsdam and Warsaw and is a co-founder of inventedhere and Service Design Berlin. She is planning to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of design thinking and public sector innovation. Dr. Samuel A. Fricker is Assistant Professor for Software Product Management and Requirements Engineering at the School of Computing, Blekinge Institute of Technology. He is Chairperson of the International Software Product Management, ISPMA e.v.

5 About the Authors 279 Rainer Grau is Director and Partner of Zühlke. In the role as distinguished consultant he is responsible to drive the knowledge areas innovation, product management, business analysis, requirements engineering, lean management and agility for customers and in his company. He is second chair of the International Requirements Engineering Board IREB and founding board member of the International Software Product Management Association ISPMA and is engaged as adjunct professor at several universities in Switzerland teaching Scrum, Lean Management und Requirements Engineering and as mentor in the bachelor and master programs. Martin Groß works as consultant for user interface development with Microsoft and IBM technologies at DATEV eg. Among his main topics interaction design, usability, user centred design and user interface patterns, he is doing a lot of research in the field of innovative user interfaces for business software. He develops design studies and teaches DATEV developers.

6 280 About the Authors Lennart Hennigs is a Product Designer at Deutsche Telekom AG and has worked in the field of User Centered Design and User Experience for more than 10 years. He studied Computer Science and Philosophy at the University of Paderborn. Dr. Tobias Hildenbrand conducted his doctoral studies on requirements engineering ( Traceability in Distributed Collaborative Software Development ) at the University of Mannheim and the University of California, Irvine, between 2004 and After working as an assistant professor in Mannheim, he joined SAP s development organization in After program management responsibility for the global rollout of lean and agile software development at SAP, Tobias Hildenbrand is currently driving the implementation of lean development and Design Thinking in SAP s 11 strategic investment areas. In doing so, he acts as agile requirements engineering consultant and Design Thinking coach for various development projects and product teams. Tobias is also involved in related research and teaching activities together with the University of Mannheim, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Hasso-Plattner-Institute and SAP Research.

7 About the Authors 281 Felix Kahrau studied Business Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT, Finland) with specialization in organization, entrepreneurship und applied computer science. Since November 2009 he is a Research Assistant at the Chair of Information Systems IV Enterprise Systems (ERIS), University of Mannheim. His research interest focuses on design of activity management systems and their application in enterprise context. Hans-Bernd Kittlaus is the Owner and CEO of InnoTivum Consulting (www. innotivum.com) and works as consultant, interim manager and trainer for software organizations in the areas of software product management, SaaS, IT strategy, business process management and software development. Before he was Director of SIZ GmbH, Bonn, Germany (German Savings Banks Organization) and Head of Software Product Management and Development units of IBM. He has published

Kira Krämer studied business administration and design thinking in Berlin, Potsdam and Sydney. She is engaged in research about social entrepreneurship and networks and is also a co-founder of Six Innovations and inventedhere. Peter LoBue graduated from Temple University with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science and attended the HPI School of Design Thinking. He works as a Consultant for experience design at NTT Data. He is also a co-founder of Six Innovations and inventedhere.

9 About the Authors 283 Prof. Dr. Alexander Maedche is Full Professor and Chairperson of the Chair of Information Systems IV, Enterprise Systems (ERIS) at the Business School and managing director of the Institute of Enterprise Systems (InES), both at the University of Mannheim. He studied business engineering and received a Ph.D. (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Karlsruhe. After his Ph.D., he worked 3 years at the Research Center for Computer Science (FZI) at the University Karlsruhe as head of a research group for knowledge-based systems. In the time frame of he worked in the industry in various management positions. One important focus of his current work is researching software development processes with specific emphasis on product management and product design. Hendrik Meth studied Business Informatics at the University of Mannheim and the City University of New York. After graduation, he worked as an IT Consultant and Project Manager in the Automotive Industry. Since June 2010 he is a Research Assistant at the Institute for Enterprise Systems (InES), University of Mannheim. His research interest focuses on the integration of user-centered design and requirements engineering with a methodological emphasis on design science research.

10 284 About the Authors Johannes Meyer is a Design Thinking evangelist, coach and practitioner. He received an M.A. in cultural studies with a research focus on power relations & popular culture in social media. He worked as a teacher in Ski Lanka, in online startups and user research. After studying Design Thinking at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, Johannes became an internal innovation consultant at SAP, co-designing applications for the banking, accounting and retail industry. He is now the General Program Manager of the HPI Academy and its learning track for professionals. In this function, he designs and conducts workshops and consulting formats in the field of Design Thinking, innovation and IT. Ludwig Neer is software enthusiast and was born in Budapest. He studied business engineering with specialization in computer science in Karlsruhe and already operated as an entrepreneur from the second semester on. In 1986 he cofounded with Martin Hubschneider the CAS-Software AG. For the success of the company he retired his academic studies. Today Ludwig Neer is Head of Research and Technology of the CAS Software AG, which employs more than 220 employees.

11 About the Authors 285 Achim Oberg is a Research Assistant at the Institute for SME Research of Prof. Woywode at the University of Mannheim. After studying business informatics at the University of Mannheim and St. Gallen he researched the application of organizationtheoretical concepts to analyze information systems within and between enterprises. Kostanija (Conny) Petrovic is Manager Consumer Insight at the Nokia s Location & Commerce unit, where she helps product teams to innovate their products and services based on user feedback. She has previous experience in User Research and User Experience Design and Innovation Research, working at SAP AG, Open Text and the Technische Universität München respectively. She is the president of the German UPA, a professional association for Usability and User Experience Professionals.

12 286 About the Authors Dr. Marcus Plach is a founder and Managing Director of ERGOSIGN GmbH, a specialised provider of user interface design services. After studying Psychology at the University of Regensburg, he was admitted to the Cognitive Science program at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken where he earned a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science. Besides his managerial commitments at ERGOSIGN, Marcus Plach is driving the optimization of design processes. As a lead consultant he coaches clients introducing user-centered design methods. He accounts for strategic development and corporate communications of ERGOSIGN. Stefanie Pötzsch joined DATEV eg in 2011 and is part of the technology guideline project team. Previously, she worked as Research Assistant at Technische Universität Dresden and was involved in different European projects in the field of data privacy and user behavior, usability and user interface design.

Since his graduation 12 years ago, he gained practical experiences in various fields of duties such as content management or e-commerce. Now, Maik Schacht is Senior Innovation Manager of the IT provider within a large German chemical company. Silvia Schacht is Ph.D. student at the Chair of Information Systems IV Enterprise Systems (ERIS), University of Mannheim. Since 2 years she researches on modern technologies adapted in enterprise systems to improve knowledge management and employees motivation.

14 288 About the Authors Florian Scheiber studied business administration at the University of Mannheim with specialization in organization, marketing and psychology. Since September 2008 he is a Research Assistant at the Chair of SMEs and Entrepreneurship of Prof. Woywode at the University of Mannheim. In spring 2011 Mr. Scheiber was guest researcher at Stanford University for 3 months. Floran Scheibers research focus is diffusion and adaption of organizational practices as well as structuration of organizational fields. Dr. Christian Schloegel is Global Head for Software Development and Product Management at Wincor Nixdorf. He introduced a dedicated Software Product Management at Wincor Nixdorf and established a central architecture approach to introduce a software product line. In the past he held different management positions at SAP AG including establishment of a central architecture group and was responsible as Senior Vice President Software Product Management.

15 About the Authors 289 Sebastian C. Scholz is User Experience Director at ERGOSIGN, a specialised provider of user interface design service. Besides heading the company s Munich s office, he helps clients in the enterprise, industry and medical sector to develop competitive user experience strategies. Practicing and preaching user centered design since the mid-nineties he has the most fun doing scoping and analysis internationally, which bridges two of his favourite research and publishing topics: Understanding and subsequently shaping corporate design strategies as well as intercultural design aspects. Ulf Schubert is Head of User Experience Design and Standards at DATEV eg in Nuremberg. He is responsible for user centered design and the user experience design of DATEV software. Before that, he worked as user experience consultant und user experience designer for different companies including SirValUse Consulting in Hamburg. He publishes his experiences and knowledge at his User Experience Blog (

16 290 About the Authors Abraham Taherivand studied information systems and design thinking in Stuttgart and Potsdam. He is a Partner and Co-founder of several startups based in Germany and is currently working as a project manager in the area of free and open knowledge. Michail Theuns is a student enrolled in the Master of Business Informatics at Utrecht University. In his research, he studies the implementation of SPM in companies leveraging the product-service system business model. His research interests include SPM and global software development.

17 About the Authors 291 Kevin Vlaanderen is currently employed as a Researcher at Utrecht University. His research interests focus on the domains of software product management, software process improvement, method engineering, and agile software development. He is an active reviewer for several scientific conferences, and a personal member of the International Software Product Management Board (ISPMA). Prof. Dr. Dieter Wallach is a Professor of Human-Computer Interaction and Usability Engineering at the Computer Science and Microsystems Technology Department of the University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern. After studying Psychology, Computer Science and Information Science at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken he earned a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science before working as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA and the University of Basle, Switzerland. Dieter Wallach was offered professorships for New Media, Social Aspects of Software Engineering and Psychological Ergonomics. Besides his academic life he is also a Founder and Managing Director of ERGOSIGN, a specialised provider of user interface design services.

18 292 About the Authors Anja M. Wölbling studied business administration and design thinking in Potsdam. She is a co-founder of Six Innovations and inventedhere and conducts research on the impact of design thinking on organizations and the implementation of ideas. Prof. Dr. Michael Woywode is heading the Institute for SME Research at the University of Mannheim. Michael Woywode received his Ph.D. in Economics and habilitated in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim. He stayed 2 years as guest researcher at Stanford University and was Chairperson for international management at RWTH Aachen. Since September 2009 Michael Woywode is Chairperson of Chair of SMEs and Entrepreneurship and Director of the Institute for SME Research at the University of Mannheim. His scientific work has been published in various international journals.
