2 OBJECTIVES: Present the latest trends and advances regarding the design of sustainable packaging, materials and quality control Present the advances and challenges of the incorporation of information technologies (IT) and other technologies for packaging, and analyze the expectations of the end users. Present the necessary criteria for the design of packaging in contact with perishables in workshop mode study cases. ADDRESSED TO: Professionals from companies in the flexible and semi-rigid packaging sector, raw materials, converters and end users (food, pharmaceutical, logistics and others sectors) in the areas of research, technological development and innovation, technical services, control and assurance of quality, interested in expanding their knowledge on new materials and technologies, as well as identify the required criteria for the design of a packaging in contact with perishables.

4 CURRICULUM VITAE OF SPEAKERS: Ph. D. María del Pilar Noriega E.: current Director General of ICIPC (Instituto de Capacitación e Investigación del Plástico y del Caucho). Chemical Engineer of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Medellin and Polymer Chemist of the Technical University of Dresden (Germany). She has graduate studies in thermoplastic extrusion of the University of Stuttgart (IKT - Germany). She holds a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on polymers from the University of Wisconsin -Madison, USA, Head of the Extrusion department of ICIPC since 1993 and since 1997, she served as Technical Director of the same institute until June 2012, when she was appointed as its General Director. Member of Extrusion Division Board of Directors of Society of Plastics Engineers, SPE, USA. Co-author of five books and numerous technical papers in international journals. She is co-inventor of four patents granted in Colombia, two granted patents in the U.S. and two international patent applications. Iván Darío López, Ph.D: Current technical director of ICIPC. Production engineer of Universidad EAFIT. He has a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on polymers from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, Co-author of a book on numerical methods and numerous technical papers in international journals. He is coinventor on one US patent application and PCT application. Dr. Markus Eisenhauer: Dr. Markus Eisenhauer studied Psychology and Informatics at the University of Trier in Germany and received a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the same University. Since 2001 he works at the Fraunhofer Institut for applied Information Technology (FIT) and is leading the Research Department on User Centered Computing, focusing on Ubiquitous Computing, Internet of Things, embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems, as well on M2M and HM-Interaction, Usability and Web-Compliance. Dr. Eisenhauer is the coordinator of several big European Projects and has participated in a multitude of large-scale national funded and European projects (German Industrie 4.0 and European IoT). He works as a Program Chair of international Conferences, Editor of scientific Journals. He works as Expert for the European Commission and is responsible for the International Relations of the FInES Cluster (Future Internet Enterprise Systems). Dr. Anja Linnemann: Dr. Anja Linnemann studied biochemistry at the University of Potsdam and finished her PhD at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in Since 2011, she has worked as a project and research manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology in Sankt Augustin. In the past she has been involved in a number of national and international projects in the general field of Life Sciences, but especially in the Health Care and Personalized Medicine Sector. At the moment she is responsible of establishing new research opportunities in the fields of Smart Packaging and Smart Food. Dr. Oscar Vernáez: graduated as Materials Engineer at the Simón Bolívar University in Venezuela, where he has also hold a doctorate degree in Engineering. He also holds a Doctorate in Chemistry, specialty Polymers from the University of Pau in France. He worked for 12 years as researcher in the polymer department of the National Oil Industry PDVSA in Venezuela. He is currently group manager of Material Development in the Bio-Based Plastics department at the Fraunhofer Institut for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT in Oberhausen (Germany). MBA Oliver Stauffer: received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Michigan and completed his MBA at Georgetown University. He began his career in analytical and R&D laboratories, with a focus on sensory technologies, physio-chemical measurement and test method development specific to package testing. Stauffer joined PTI in 2005 as a member of the research and development team working on non-destructive testing of high-risk pharmaceutical packaging. In 2006, he joined the sales team as applications engineer for PTI Inspection Systems. He held the position of International Business Development Manager for PTI through 2010, followed by COO through 2015, focusing on global quality solutions for package inspection that provide the highest level of measurement accuracy and reliability. During his time with PTI he has developed several technology platforms, measurement methodologies, and technology patents. In 2016, he was appointed as CEO. Dipl. Ing. Hendrik Roch: he studied environmental engineering and resource management at the Ruhr University in Bochum (Germany). Since 2011, he has been working as project engineer in the department Bio-based Plastics at the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology UMSICHT in Oberhausen. He conducts research in the fields of material development, processing and application technology of bioplastics as well as composite materials with natural fibers. His field of activity extends from specific developments for customers or products for injection molding applications, through the foaming of bioplastics to the project management of national and international research projects. MSC. Gustavo Aragón: Gustavo Aragón got his diploma in electronics and control engineering from the Escuela Politécnica Nacional University in Quito. Later, he completed a masters program in Information Technology specialized in biomedical techniques and embedded systems in the University of Applied Science Mannheim. From 2008 until 2011 he worked at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering Laboratories in Mannheim (MABEL) as a student assistant and later as a research assistant developing embedded systems based on microcontrollers and CPLDs, as also developing low-noise systems for optical detection systems. Since 2011, he is a senior research associate in FIT working towards his PhD in the field of smart sensor development using contextual awareness and knowledge exchange in different domains and applications. M.Sc. Omar Augusto Estrada R.: current Deputy of ICIPC Continuous Processes. Chemical Engineer graduated of the National University of Medellin and graduate studies in Transformation Processes for Plastics and Rubber from ICIPC-EAFIT. He holds the title of Master of Engineering in Polymer Processing at EAFIT University - ICIPC. He worked in the Technical Division of ICIPC, specifically in the area of Extrusion, from 1997 to He joined as chief operating officer of a company active in Medellin until February 2009 and since then he serves as Assistant Director of the Institute Continuous Processes Department. Author of numerous articles in national and international journals. Mag. Alexander Hernández M.: Mechanical Engineer from Universidad EAFIT of Medellín, Colombia with graduate studies in Transformation Processes of Plastics and Rubber from Universidad EAFIT - ICIPC. He received his Engineering Master degree with emphasis in Polymer Processing, at Universidad EAFIT - ICIPC. He has 18 years of experience in the plastics sector industry, both domestically and abroad. Since 2013, he joined again to the Institute as Head of Products Area. He is coinventor of an USPTO and PCT patent application. Author of articles in national and international journals. Mag. Juliana Meneses: current Sustainability Manager in NUTRESA holding group. Enviroment Engineer graduated of the EIA, and receive her M.Sc. in Environmental Management and Los Andes University.
