1 FRESNO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BASELINE/CE PROGRAM NINTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS MATHEMATICS SOCIAL SCIENCE SCIENCE Mandatory areas of instruction: Courses of study aligned with the California English Language Arts content Standards. Instruction in a balanced and comprehensive program for all students that includes explicit, systematic instruction in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and a study of significant literary works and other materials of quality to promote effective communication in English and the ability to think critically. Process writing includes organizing, developing drafts, analyzing, revising, and editing. 2. Writing for a variety of purposes includes, but not limited to, narrative, informational, and persuasive writing. 3. Conventions of writing and speaking. C. Oral Communication communication skills in a variety of contexts and for a variety of purposes integrated throughout the curriculum. D. English Language Development (ELD): mandatory daily instruction for all English Learners as described in the ELD Curriculum Guide and ELD/ELA Content Standards. Algebra I Course McDougal-Littell Mathematics Concepts and Skills Algebra I emphasizes the following strands: number properties operations, and linear equations, graphing and systems of linear equations, quadratics and polynomials, functions and rational expressions. Baseline materials include: student edition, teacher s edition, and teachers resource package. Supplementary materials include: California Standards Practice Workbook, Basic Skills Workbook, Practice Workbook, Standardized Test Practice Workbook, Multi-language Glossary, Resources in Spanish, and additional material available by the publisher. Glencoe/McGraw Hill Geometry: Integration Applications, Connections: emphasizes the geometry skills and concepts useful to all students by developing their ability to construct formal, logical arguments and proofs in geometric settings and problems. Materials include student edition, teacher s edition, and teacher resource materials. Additional math courses are offered according to the needs of student.
