2 CAD 1 (Computer Aided Design) Grades Full Year 5 Credits (Prerequisite: Design & Fabrication Technology) This course provides students with experiences in a variety of pre engineering related drawing topics. Students will master two dimensional and three dimensional drawing technique commands, and proficient in three dimensional solids. Areas such as auxiliary views, revolutions, gears and electronic drawings will be employed to prepare students for more complex engineering concepts. Students will fabricate three dimensional solids out of multiple materials for mastery of three dimensional visualization. 3 I. PHILOSOPHY The Design and Fabrication course is designed to prepare students to utilize technology in an efficient, and safe manner in order to properly solve problems. It addresses many of the CCCS for Technology Education in the state of New Jersey. Students will have the opportunity to develop the necessary math, communication, and problem solving skills to successfully employ the technology available to Dumont High School and beyond. Unit 1 : Review & Introduction. 9/5 11/1 Unit 2: Single & Multi view sketching. 11/1 1/15 Unit 3: Oblique Drawings. 1/15 3/5 Unit 4: Isometric Drawings. 3/5 4/5 Unit 5: Auxiliary Views. 4/6 6/15 Unit Outlines & Pacing Guide
4 UNIT 1 UNIT TITLE: REVIEW & INTRODUCTION CHAPTERS/TOPIC COVERED : Strengthen, reinforce, and emphasis the basic tasks necessary to properly sketch and prepare multi view drawings. UNIT LENGTH : 9/5 11/1 Performance Indicators (Standards and Objectives) NJSLS: F.1, A.1 3; A.1 3 Career Ready Practices: CRP2, CRP4, CRP8, & CRP To familiarize students with sketching techniques, lettering format, and correct drawing setup for multi view drawings. 2. To review the three isometric planes, and correct use of the UCS icon. 3. To identify the steps necessary to open the class title block and begin generating 2D geometry using relative coordinates. Essential Questions Why is it necessary to be able to free hand sketch a mechanical part? What are orthographic and isometric drawings? Why is the front view the most important of all orthographic drawings? What are the industry standards for properly dimensioning a multi view drawing? What are center lines and what do they represent? Under what circumstances is it necessary to build isometric cubes and ellipses? How is the snap mode of AutoCAD changed? How do you change the isometric plane you are modeling in, in AutoCAD? What are iso circles and how do the compare mechanical ellipses? Activities (Approximate Time Frame) Strategies/ Methods/ Vocabulary Resources (Including Digital Tools) Differentiation/ Accommodations/ Modifications Recognize pencil lead weight, attaching drawing paper to drafting table, drawing guidelines, lettering orientation, and correct dimensioning. Generate multi view drawings using the Solar Profile command and print a drawing for submission. Identify which mechanical parts require auxiliary views for complete communication of sizes and shapes. 2. Determine the dimensions of complex mechanical part with angles other the 90 and 45 degrees. 3. To properly dimension auxiliary views in multi view drawings.
