3 Course 2: Course Objective The objective of this course is to help people to understand the major components of the Drillstring starting with the whole range of drill bits available for the drilling of different types of rock through to the BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly) which includes stabilisers, NMDC s (Non-Magnetic Drill Collars), MWD (Measurement While Drilling) tools, LWD (Logging While Drilling) tools, PDM s (Mud Motors), Rotary Steerable Systems, Turbines, Drill Collars, Jars, HWDP and Drill Pipe. It cross-references the IADC Drilling Manual, API Standards & Recommended Practices, NACE, the Drilling Data Handbook, and Manufacturer s Information & General Industry Data. It also gives delegates further sources of information to pursue should they have a particular, more detailed interest. Who Should Do The Course The course has been written for several groups of personnel, for example: Operator personnel who are commencing a career offshore as Offshore Drilling Engineer or Trainee Drilling Supervisor; Drilling Contractor personnel who are on fast-track accelerated learning programs from young graduate or pump-man through to Assistant Driller; Drillers; Toolpushers or Performance Toolpushers who are involved with Turn-key or Performance contracts; Service personnel who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of Drilling Systems; Delegates who are in another industry or full-time education who envisage joining the Drilling Industry.

This is often a difficult area to understand in its entirety and so the section has been broken down into its constituent components so that the subject can be readily understood.
