7 Appendix A Excerpt from National Industrial Maintenance Standards (NIMS) The initial draft standard contains eight comprehensive technical skill Duty Areas and General Characteristics which potential industrial maintenance technicians must demonstrate. These draft standards represent a new paradigm shift in the industrial maintenance preparatory arena. The comprehensive Eight Technical Duty Areas: 1. Operations Maintenance 2. Basic Mechanical Systems 3. Basic Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems 4. Electrical Systems 5. Electronic Control Systems 6. Process Control Systems 7. Maintenance Welding 8. Maintenance Piping The table below lists additional DRAFT Industrial Maintenance Technician Level I General: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics (KSAO s). These additional skills, knowledge, abilities and other characteristics fall outside the scope of the current KCTCS Industrial Maintenance Technology degree number of credit hours. 10 Appendix B Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KYFAME) Requirements Manufacturing Core Exercises (MCE), adapted from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, North America (TEMA). KYFAME is a new manufacturing-led organization collaborating to develop manufacturing-based educational pathways statewide. Beginning in fall 2010, Toyota staff delivered Manufacturing Core Exercises to students enrolled in the Industrial Maintenance Technology program at Bluegrass Community & Technical College in Georgetown. Student sponsorship in 2010 and 2011 was limited to Toyota. The Toyota/Bluegrass partnership serves as the genesis of the Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT) Advanced Manufacturing Technician Track. Beginning in fall 2013, additional employers began sponsoring IMT students at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, necessitating migration of required MCE concepts and content into KCTCS courses within Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT). Additional Content Areas: 1. Safety Culture 2. Workplace Organization (5S) 3. Lean Systems 4. Problem Solving 5. Maintenance for Reliability The resultant migration into the IMT curriculum resulted in five 1-credit-hour courses covering the additional content. This content more fully aligns the IMT program with the NIMS Draft standards referenced in Appendix A.
