The mission of the Drafting Technology program is to teach students how to use current CAD programs to design and document either mechanical components (commercial products) or buildings; through two separate tracts. It also covers other advanced technology such as 3D scanning, 3D rinting, and CNC Machines. Upon completion of the program students will be able to take a project from concept to prototype. 1

2 How is the mission communicated to students and the rest of the campus community? The mission is stated on the website and in brochures. Faculty speak to students about the mission at every possible occasion. How does the mission align with the college s overall mission? Drafting technology teaches students how to be an active participant in the changing environment that we live in. Students learn how to use the latest technologies in order to participate in developing new products. 3. rogram History and Description rovide a description of your rogram The Drafting Technology program has existed since the creation of the college. The program has gone through periods of growth and decline. Currently the program is undergoing a period of revitalization, and hopes are strong that student enrollments and completers will increase as a result of several changes detailed below. Identify major changes and/or developments, including change or growth in other programs, which have significantly impacted your program. Over the last ten years there has been a significant decrease in the ability for high school students to gain information about Drafting. Local high schools have drastically cut the number of drafting courses, with several not offering it at all. Also, the term Drafting and its historical context does not always accurately convey what students who complete the program will do at work. This makes it hard for new students to understand what they will get out of the program. This low level of knowledge about the program has led to numerous classes being canceled and extended the time that it takes students to graduate. Due to the previously mentioned factors the rogram has several changes in progress. First the Department is working on ways to increase visibility to potential students. Secondly the department is exploring alternative names, which will better identify to students what graduates will be able to do. Finally it is working on ways to enable students to complete the program in a reduced time period (See Attached file: Block Schedule.docx) 4. Curriculum rovide your plan to bring courses into compliance with the Title 5 5-year cycle of review. (if necessary) All courses are current with Title-5 5. Advisory committees Committee Role The Advisory Committee is maintained in order to give guidance to the rogram. Membership The advisory committee is made up of people from Industry as well as other educational organizations) grades 9-16). Describe how the committee s recommendations are implemented 2

3 Faculty use feedback from advisory committee members when making changes to the overall programs, course content, and required technical knowledge of students. 6. Grant Data Grants erkins Grant Goals Increase the number of underrepresented students in CTE rograms. Describe how the grant goal is connected to program goals By increasing the quality of the program it will be able to better serve students who are in underrepresented populations. Summary of activities related to each grant goal since completion of last planning document, whether comprehensive or annual. The department has used erkins funds in order to send faculty to conferences so that they are able to learn new and better instructional methods. Funds have also been used to update the technology that is available for students to use, and familiarize them with what they will be using when they move into industry. 3

Learning Outcomes Assessment Discuss the process used by faculty in identifying program-level student learning outcomes (SLOs) and the type of assessment that is being used to measure those outcomes. Faculty develop rogram SLOs based on what students will need to be able to do in order to Get a job or transfer into a BS program in Industrial Technology or Engineering. Summarize the findings of program learning outcomes assessments completed in the last two years, or since the last review. Include a plan for assessing the course and program SLOs you have not assessed at this time. How well do your program learning outcomes represent the scope and depth of learning appropriate to the degree/certificate program offered, and how do you know? Faculty know the scope and depth of required learning based on their industry experience, current knowledge of industry activities, contact with faculty at other colleges and universities, and contact with employers. How well do your program learning outcomes represent the scope and depth of learning appropriate to the standards of your discipline or profession/occupation, and how do you know? The program SLOs are in line with industry expectations. Faculty know this because they are actively involved with current industry trends. 9. Staffing Describe how the program is staffed. Student erformance Summarize the findings of the following student performance measures, looking at the numbers for your program compared to the college as a whole for the school year. See Attached file: Data Tables-IE Metrics.xlsx; Fill-CCR-CSR tab See Attached file: mm-pr drafting technology.xlsx Drafting classes average 97% of the Success and 98% of the retention rates of the rest of the college. The variation is under control and is trending up. Grade distributions closely match what is common across the college; however, there are a lower percentage of students who earn a C or D. 14

15 11. Analysis of Data and Evaluation Briefly outline which students are served in your program(s). Look at age, gender, and ethnic/racial breakdowns. You can compare demographics by site, time, modality, and ultimately, to the district's demographics for the same term. See Attached file: Data Tables-IE Metrics.xlsx; Age, Gender, and Ethnicity tabs What is the total number of sections offered? rovide a breakdown of sections by site modalities when appropriate. See Attached file: Data Tables-IE Metrics.xlsx; Fill-CCR-CSR tab What is the average class size and the average percentage of sections filled for your program? Average class size is 12.4 with a cap of 24. Drafting classes average 54% of the fill rate of the rest of the college. The variation is under control and is trending up. Faculty anticipate that scheduling changes will improve the fill rate. How do your program demographics compare to the District aggregate? The Drafting technology program attracts students who are proportionally older than those enrolled in the rest of the college. Students are proportionately more likely to be Indian American, African American or White, and least proportionately Asian or Multi-Ethnic. There is also a significant gender discrepancy width the majority of students being Male. 12. Resources Describe the types of facilities and equipment used by the program and the extent to which these resources meet program needs. The rogram uses one room (V-40) for both lecture and lab. The room is set-up as a computer lab, with various technologies that are used for instruction. Only having one room limits the number of courses that can be taught at the same time. Going to the block schedule will require the room to be primarily for mechanical courses, leaving no space to offer architecture courses during the day; furthermore, as more programs transition to block schedules there is an increasing need to offer sections of courses that fit into their schedule. There is not room in the existing facility to accommodate this. Discuss how technology is used to deliver instruction or enhance student learning and the extent to which available technologies meet program needs. Drafting technology courses are heavy with technology, Most of the courses are focused on using advanced technology. V-40 is outfitted with an Interactive Whiteboard, document Camera, and the ability for the instructor to show their screen on the students computers. The courses also take full advantage of BlackBoard. Discuss the program s expectations for professional development by faculty (full-time and part-time) and staff and the extent to which faculty and staff engage, or would like to engage, in professional development activities. 15

16 The full time faculty actively participates in professional development activities both as a leader and a learner. The full time faculty provides training for adjunct faculty as well as local high school teachers on the course materials.
