Texas Instruments is heavily involved in analog and digital circuit design. Many of my extracurricular activities and coursework are geared towards analog and digital circuit design. However, I have also taken many courses in power engineering. My resume contains the relevant coursework I have completed that may help me obtain a job in a variety of industries within Electrical Engineering. Therefore, specific emphasis was placed on describing my coursework that relates to analog and digital circuit design. The job call also asks for strong communication and leadership skills. Therefore, the third paragraph of my cover letter specifically emphasizes leadership involvement in Engineers without Borders and Solar Decathlon. The cover letter conveys a serious tone as the information inside the memo is of significant importance to both the author and the reader. The information is presented in a concise manner, with paragraphs that separate coursework, work experience, and extracurricular activities.

As an employee, I would be able to apply my knowledge in analog and digital circuit design, obtained from my coursework, work experience, and extracurricular activities. As a senior, I have taken many courses in analog and digital circuit design, such as, Power Electronics, Power Electronics Laboratory, Electronic Circuits, Introduction to VLSI System Design, Digital Systems Laboratory, and Computer Engineering I. In these courses, I have learned about a wide range of topics ranging from basic rectifier and amplifier circuits to FPGA and VLSI system design. I feel confident that as a full time employee, I would be able to meaningfully contribute to TI s projects. This past summer, I participated in an internship at Siemens Healthcare. During my internship, I was assigned the task of designing an FPGA that would serve as the communications hub on a motion controller board. The design utilized 8b/10b encoding and LVDS to transmit information. Through my experience, I was able to write and compile code in Quartus 12.0, write test benches and simulate the design in Modelsim 10.0b, write Synopsys Design Constraints files, and conduct board level verification utilizing Altera s SignalTap II Logic Analyzer. This experience gave me insight into industry level digital design processes. In the summer of 2011, I participated in an internship at General Electric. During my internship, I learned core analog circuit design principles. I helped design an ac/dc converter that would be placed in wind turbine installations for power conversion. I also gained exposure to analog circuit problems by utilizing oscilloscopes and differential probes to debug circuits. Through my work experience at Siemens and General Electric, I have obtained a good understanding of digital and analog circuit design. Outside of my coursework and work experience, I have gained leadership experience working on projects for Engineers without Borders and Solar Decathlon. For the past two years, I have been leading an initiative to help electrify the village of Ntisaw, Cameroon. In the summer of 2011, I, along with seven other students, traveled to Cameroon to setup site assessment equipment to measure the solar, hydrological, and wind potential in the area. Beyond Engineers without Borders, I am the leader of the Controls and Monitoring group in the Solar Decathlon team on campus. Solar Decathlon is an organization which helps spread the idea of the solar electrification of homes to the general public. The Solar Decathlon team builds a power-neutral home, and biannually competes in an international competition. As the leader of the Controls and Monitoring group, I coordinate the hardware tasks of the project with the computer programming tasks. I have specifically focused my efforts on creating the hardware which processes information from sensors and sends it to a MySQL database.
