2 TEJ3E Computer Technology, Grade 11, Workplace Preparation Name: This job may allow employees to develop the knowledge and skills related to computer hardware, networks, operating systems, and other software. Employees will have used utility and application software, and learned proper procedures for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer systems and networks. They will have also developed an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to the use of computers, and may have learned about apprenticeships and other employment opportunities in the field of computer technology. Describe two advantages and two disadvantages of networked computing.

3 Draw a plan for a home or small office network of at least four computers. Include the placement of computers, peripherals, furniture and lighting. Describe three things to keep in mind when providing an ergonomic work space for the workplace. Describe your role in installing, updating, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware in your workplace. Describe the procedures used in your workplace to prevent damage to computer components. Identify and describe the computer file backup systems used in your workplace.

4 Describe one hardware solution that you suggested to solve a problem encountered in your workplace. Describe the network utilities you have used to diagnose and correct problems such as incorrect IP configuration or slow connections. List the computer operating systems and application systems you are familiar with. Describe the effects of computer technology on the environment.

5 Describe the benefits and drawbacks of computer technology for society. Describe two issues related to Internet safety and explain what rules you follow to protect yourself and/or your family. Describe an ethical or security issue related to the use of computers that may have arisen at your workplace. Describe how you dealt with that issue.

7 TEJ4E Computer Technology, Grade 12, Workplace Preparation Name: This job may have allowed employees to further develop their practical understanding of computer hardware, software, networks, and operating systems. Employees will have used utility and application software, and will have followed proper procedures for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer systems and networks. In addition to demonstrating an understanding of the ethical use and environmental effects of computers, employees may have developed marketable skills and assessed career opportunities in the field. Briefly compare the hardware and connection media used for different types of networks. Ie home vs. medium sized business. Describe two hardware innovations in computers and related technologies how have things improved over the past ten years?

8 Describe three common user requirements that affect the design of a network. Describe the purpose and basic operation of two types of application and two types of utility software. Describe a time when you had to find solutions for user hardware needs. List three possible solutions and then explain the process you used to come to a final solution. Explain the correct procedures you would follow to prevent damage to computer components.

9 Describe the utility software and/or diagnostic tools you have used to correct problems on a computer and/or a network. Describe three of the procedures your workplace followed for network or computer troubleshooting; Describe two resources you might use to explore features of a new software program.

13 TEC3E/TEC4E Computer Engineering Technology: Computer Repair, Grade 11 and 12, Workplace Preparation Name: This job focuses on the electronic maintenance and repair of computers and their peripherals. Employees will have examined certain circuits, systems and used practical techniques used in the electronics and computer technology fields. Employees will also have studied equipment manuals and schematics; used soldering tools and other hand and power tools; considered health and safety issues; and explored careers, lifelong learning opportunities and the impact of electronics on the environment. Employees will have prepared and interpreted conventional and computer-assisted design (CAD) engineering designs, drawings and specifications for machines and components, power transmission systems, process piping, heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems; and designed or assisted in the design of moulds, tools, dies and other required items for use in manufacturing processes. They will also have installed, repaired and maintained machinery and equipment involved in robotics and control systems; carried out a range of mechanical tests on machines; considered health and safety issues; and explored careers, lifelong learning opportunities and the impact of the robotics industry on the environment.
