1 INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON CHANGING WORLD, CHANGING SCENARIO: CHALLENGES AND DEVELOPMENTS IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES 27 th AND 28 th MARCH, 2018 Organized by ISLAMPUR COLLEGE ESTD P.O.: ISLAMPUR, DIST.: UTTAR DINAJPUR, WEST BENGAL, PIN Website: FOR COLLEGE PHOTOGRAPH Important Dates: Last Date of Abstract Submission: 23 rd February, 2018 Confirmation of Abstract: 28 th February, 2018 Last Date of Full Paper Submission: 9 th March, 2018 Last Date of Registration for Oral/ Poster Presentation: 12 th March, 2018 About the College Islampur College, a NAAC accredited B grade college, has been catering to the higher educational needs of a vast population comprising mostly of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and minority communities since The Arts, Science and Commerce streams of the college have been
2 enrolling students coming from remote villages and distant areas of Uttar Dinajpur, Darjeeling and Bihar. The college offers honours courses in different subjects with affiliation of University of North Bengal. Active N.C.C. and N.S.S. units are operating under the leadership of teachers to inculcate social consciousness among the students through community development programmes. The IGNOU special study centre for SC/ST of Islampur College offers P.G., U.G., Diploma and Certificate courses. Location of the college The college is located at Islampur town in the state of West Bengal of India. The National Highway 31 passes through the town and it is about 500 Kms from Kolkata, 75 Kms from Siliguri, 3 Kms from Aluabari Railway Station and 60 Kms from Bagdogra Airport. Theme of the seminar Renaissance of the 14 th -15 th centuries is held to be the watershed in the world perspective. It has ushered in a new epoch. The impact of it is felt in all aspects of life. It has opened up new horizon in the global activity. Scientific inventions and discoveries of the routes of communication opened up the way for interaction with different parts of the globe. Industrial Revolution and the Agrarian Revolution of the 18 th Century Europe expedited the process of modernisation. Apart from that Humanism and Egalitarianism touched the hearts of people. The modern phenomenon of Globalism getting hold in the last few decades of the 20 th Century has blurred the territorial jurisdiction of states. Now it seems that it is the time of the convergence of different contradictory theories and practices. The western world has trod over the tracks of mixed economy, peoples welfare and state control of production. On the contrary, the so called socialist countries have fallen back upon market economy. The inkling of a compromise of the two contradictory ideologies is apparent in the End of ideology of Daniel Bell. The Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev hurled a crushing blow to bi-polarisation and paved the way for wriggling out of the territorial boundary. Liberalisation has become the patent phenomenon. It has brought about immense changes in the realm of epistemology. It has widened and deepened the challenges before us. Now we all live in a global village. On the other hand, exorbitant penetration into the nature by man poses multifarious issues and challenges which are very much difficult to address with the help of traditional apparatus and paraphernalia in possession of sciences. The main objective of the seminar is to shed some lights as to how current basic and social sciences orient themselves in order to understand the crux of the situation. Humanities have their own way of looking at things. How the contemporary issues find their expression in humanities is also a concern of the present seminar.
