9 The Trends in HighTech Industry The market is driven by customer requirements The complex information about the sample of interest, combining different analytical methods is required Multimodal analytical instruments for in-situ analysis are subject of many tenders For the success on that field, the high level integration is necessary. The scientific know how is often locked on the academies and there is no motivation for its transfer into the industrial sector The high potential of SMEs To establish the effective collaboration, TESCAN participates on the founded projects on national and European level since early nineties Our projects were successful in 6 th and 7 th Framework Programme supported by European Commission TESCAN utilizes the investment calls to fasten the growth Starting with the cooperation in 6 th FP Project FIBLYS, the stable partnership of TESCAN, EMPA (CH), Max Planck Institute Erlangen (G) was established and continued the joined R&D activities in 7 th FP. TESCAN become the coordinator of 7 th FP project UnivSEM ( 10

11 The Trends in HighTech Industy Multi-analytical tools In the UnivSEM project started in 2012 => the first multimodal tool was introduced in 2 years As the part of the well established team, WITEC was identified by TESCAN as the most competent and prospective partner for development of integrated system SEM Raman spectrometer/microscope. 13 The Trends in High Multi-analytical Tools SEM + TOF SIMS The sample ionization is performed by focused ion beam The volume of interest is sputtered away with FIB. Sputtered particles are either neutral or charged. The charged particles represent the signal in the TOF-SIMS analysis. The TOF spectrometer is a third party product from TOFWERK. Founded in 2002 Thun, Switzerland Global provider of custom time-of-flight spectrometers 14

15 The Trends in High Multi-analytical Tools FIB-SEM: Internal stress analyses In cooperation with the consortium of European academic partners leaded by Uni Roma Tre, the specialized routine was developed, which is able to provide the internal stress analysis of the chosen material. This is further analyzed by DIC methods. 15

16 The Trends in High Tech Industry SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION: Why do we participate in the European projects? 1.The first motivation was to obtain additional budget for our R&D activities 2.Moreover, we can establish the scientific cooperation with the top scientist, touch the know how locked on the universities; keep in touch with the technology leaders 3.The increase of the administration, language and diplomatic skills of the company. 4.Joining the European cooperation scientific network. Addressing the perspective Postdocs and PhD students, who will decide about the SEM purchase in the future. 5.Brand building 6.The project outputs are placed in the prominent scientific sites in Western European Countries (Uni Oxford, MPI Erlangen, EMPA Thun, Uni Oldenburg, IPHT Jena etc.). 16

TESCAN product portfolio is constantly widen and innovated the new analytical systems, light microscopy etc. We put the accent to more complex systems We are concentrated to one particular R&D branch, where we are building the brand of quality and accuracy. We are using the opportunities and support given by the state and by the European Union. Our founded projects are aligned with the R&D priorities, there are no artificial projects. More the 40% earnings is reinvested to the company every year We are proactive. Participation on trades, conferences Workshops The open access to TESCAN demo labs the chance for the scientist to test the machine and gain the desired results. Brand building, networking, the overall knowledge about TESCAN in the scientific community 17
