Reed & Weave July 2017 Edition President s Message. What a delightful June meeting! I was SO glad to finally be with you all again--and at such a great gathering. A big Thank You to all the folk who brought it about. Sallie, Janet, Camille, Pat -- and Bill and Hal for the use of their lovely home. The weather behaved and we couldn't have had a better time. Antonio Mendoza Dye & Weave Workshop Inland Empire Handweaver's Guild presents a ANTONIO MENDOZA DYE AND WEAVE WORKSHOP DYEING, SEPTEMBER 30, and WEAVING, OCTOBER 7, 2017 This year we will be trying something totally new in how we structure our workshop. Our presenter is Antonio Mendoza, a Zapotec dyer and weaver. We have already seen many of his extraordinary rugs, bags and mug rugs just to name a few. The first day, the dye day of the workshop (September 30th) will be a week prior to the weaving day. This will allow you time to dry your wool, decide which design you would like to do, and warp your loom. The one day of weaving (October 7th) will introduce you to Antonio's techniques, design selection time, and time to begin, if not complete your woven samples and project. Instructions for pre-warping your loom will be sent to you in a timely fashion. By filling out the attached application and submitting your deposit of $50, you are agreeing to the following terms: Final payment is due August 1st ($130.00 + $50 deposit = $180) based on 12 participants) Withdrawal from the program after August 30th loss of 50% cost of workshop. Withdrawal from the program after September 5th no refund. Participant may substitute another participant to take their place at any time. Yarn costs are additional depending on what you choose on the dye day. Special bobbins will be available for you to try and to buy. Learn to weave (or refresh your skills) on a 4-shaft or a rigid heddle loom in a small class setting. This is a project based class that covers weave structure, yarn and project selection, measuring yarn, warping the loom, weaving and finishing a project. Classes have 3-5 students.
