2 Williamsburg Spinners and Weavers Minutes December 17, 2018 James City County Recreation Center President Linda A called the meeting to order at 10AM We had one guest-tina Christensen-Parman. Welcome! The November minutes were accepted as written. Treasurer - Kathy. We have $ Membership - Sandi. Dues are due today. Website - Dave. We can renew our dues on the website. Also Debbie s pictures of our show & tell can be seen there. MAFA grant - no time to submit this year. Will try for next year. Sandi has the June MAFA class schedule. Pine Needle basket workshop - Sandi says it will cost each student $ It will be held at JCC Rec Center March 18 after meeting if possible. We should bring a lunch. Today we have a pot luck lunch. January s program is the plarn challenge. Also bring old or favorite tools that we love to use. Programs-Cindy We are to look over the list of programs that Cindy has compiled and see what we want to do. Some mentioned are: Dorset buttons Spin-in Colonial Weavers to come and give a talk Weaving with branches Finger weaving Norm Kennedy video Spinning wheel preferences Saori weaving with Sandi Upcycling weaving (think plarn) Locker hooking Explaining sectional weaving Future workshops proposed: Nuno felting

3 Daryl Lancaster instruction Next Steps in Weaving April meeting - we will make cardboard looms for the upcoming May library instruction. We are buying 60 wooden needles to use for these looms. Needles will total $24.00 The January bash is January 21 after meeting and goes to January 23 AM. It will be at Powhatan Plantation. Sandi has a sign-up sheet since she won t make food. If you are coming any of the 2 days, check to see what is needed. The new officers for the coming year will go at some point during the bash to the bank for signature changing. Dee announced the yearly knitting retreat at Beaverdam Park in Gloucester is being held February 16. Bring whatever you want to work on. The Dirt Woman (Becky McCoy) will be the vendor this year. Cost is $5.00 for the Humane Society. It is a pot luck lunch so bring a dish. Show & Tell: Sandi - vest incorporating panels of woven blended fleece from spinning workshop. Debbie 6 pin loom squares joined diagonally to make a scarf. Cindy - many tiny pin loom sheep. Kris - 2 woven scarfs of striped green and gold Dee - fiber swap fine brown fleece being spun Barbara - multi colored knit scarf Linda C - lost and found hank of green yarn.
