1 SUNSHINE COAST SPINNERS AND WEAVERS GUILD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES DATE: March 6, 2017 ST. JOHN S UNITED CHURCH, DAVIS BAY, BC. Present: President- Merrily Corder Vice President- Dianne Lim Secretary- (acting) Joan Fletcher Treasurer- Pam Coxall 1. Welcome: new members Karen and Nancy and Helen. 2. Call to Order 3. President s Report: Helene`s presentation is cancelled because of travel difficulties caused by weather. There is an article on Verna Chan and Fibreshed in the current issue of Coast Life. 4. Business Arising from the Minutes: n\a 5. Treasurer s Report: spent since start of January: Hall rental: $ (covers January to June) library $ income: membership: $ Fibreshed. $10.00 returned (IFFS): $ balance $ The members present agreed that the money IFFS returned was to be directed to education. 6. Correspondence: The president will follow up on the letter from JMC Woolens and add them to the Fibreshed resource list. 7. Upcoming Dates: 1. Southern Spin-in: date: March 21 at Mechthild`s 2. Northern Spin-in: date: March 30 at the yurts 3. Next Guild Meeting: April 3 1

2 Notice to new members: the guild has wheels available to lend, call Jeannie or Doreen Maclauchlan 8. Interest Groups: -Membership:n/ -Equipment: Lynda will be back Friday -Grants and Awards: scholarship program by guild, limit $200 per individual, recipient is asked to make a presentation at guild meeting, recipient must have been a member for a year. -Standards/Jury: n\a -Historian: name will be changed to archivist. Albums will not fit in boxes, suggests buying new albums and keeping them year-by-year. We need to take photos of show-and-tell. We must also organize old newsletters and minutes. -Librarian:will renew weaving magazine subscription. -Newsletter: president has had requests to post upcoming presentations. Program committee asked to submit to newsletter. -Website: what is phone number? If it can be located, it should be eliminated. -Fibreshed: had a display at Seedy Saturday, was very successful, bags of fleece for mulch passed out and starter kits for dyer`s garden were sold out quicky. All fleece for mulch was donated by Deb Osler. There was good interest in joining the guild. Some sheep producers visited the display. One producer (Christmas Road Farm) had their own booth with a variety of uses for fleece other than spinning and weaving. Fibreshed will have an event April 9 at the yurts called from Shepherdess to Knitted Dress. -Programs: -Workshops: 9. Other: 2

3 -ANWG, Blanket Project is almost done, and ready for finishing. They are hoping for waulking party on the April 9. Yarn leftover from the blanket will come back to the guild to be made into accessories for the blanket for the display at ANWG. All accessories must use fibre from BC that has been naturally dyed. Suggestions are cedar baskets, mats, pillows, insects, fruits and vegetables. All items must be handed in to the guild on June 1. The guild has local fibre for sale for those who wish to keep their projects after ANWG rather than donate to Fibreshed.. Jeannie has some fibre from a friend who is moving to the coast and is bringing fleece with her. Jeannie has samples with her. Pam reports a request from ANWG wanting to know how many people are planning to attend the AGM. Dianne Lim may attend. -IFFS: Just wrapping up final details, will purchase 25 shopping bags from Pender Harbour school fundraiser. Next IFFS event is August 18, 2018 in Norway. cost: about $ Fibrecamp: has a new website, under construction. Workshops will by mushroom dyeing, free-form knitting and tapestry weaving. It is not yet known who new staff person is. -Fibres Plus Sale: A planning meeting will be held March 23 at 10:00 to 12:00 at Shirley Hall`s house. 10. Announcements: Blanket made on 110" loom was displayed, made by Marjorie-Ann and Barby. We need a room about 16` by 16`. 112` x 49` We have applied for 2 grants. This is a heritage Canadian loom, no longer in production. ideas to Dianne. Dianne has submitted a letter of intent to the Community Foundation for a grant. 11. Adjournment: 2:30 3
