1 SECTION 25 FIBER ARTS ENTRY FORMS DUE: Friday, September 2 EXHIBITS DUE: 9:00 p.m., Thursday, September 15 JUDGE: Erda Kappeler RELEASE TIME: 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18 for walk-in/out exhibits JUDGING BEGINS: 9:00 A.M., Friday, September Limited to residents of California. 2. No more than two entries per class per exhibitor. 3. All entries are to have been completed by exhibitor within one year of the fair. 4. All hand-spun items are to be hand-spun and completed by the exhibitor. 5. All items are to clearly indicate fiber content, and intended use. 6. All yarns to be submitted in skeins of at least 25 yards with fiber content and intended use clearly indicated. No balls will be accepted. 7. Novelty yarns may include a commercial binder or core. 8. Attach a sample of the raw fleece. If the raw fleece is not available, attach a sample of the roving or sliver used. 9. In handwoven items, all weft yarn used must be hand-spun. Warp fibers may be machine spun. 10. Judging criteria for all yarn entries: a. General overall appearance. b. Preparation for exhibit, clean, properly skeined and tied, of listed total yardage, blocked if necessary. c. Suitability of fiber to yarn, amount of twist, diameter of yarn. d. Technique, twist evenly executed, appropriate plying, twist diameter consistent throughout, structurally durable, yarns consistent, dyeing/blending consistent. e. Suitability of yarn to use, direction of twist, amount of twist, diameter of yarn, handle of yarn, appropriate number of plys. 11. Judging criteria for fiber arts: a. General overall appearance. b. Suitability of yarn to article, consistency of spinning, appropriate yarn characteristics. c. Suitability of fiber to project, fiber preparation, durability, hand. d. Technique-gauge/sett, even tension, perfect execution, no uncorrected mistakes. e. Finishing-blocking, ends, cleanliness, seams, appropriate notions. 12. Local guilds are encouraged to designate one person to collect and deliver entries to the Fair. Entries may be sent by mail or dropped off at the Fair office up to one week prior. Exhibits will be shipped back to exhibitor at owner s expense. Please state shipping instructions on entry form and include stamps or money sufficient to cover costs. 13. This does not include the cash prize of premium awards for exhibition. 15. The Amateur Divisions are open to those who engage in Wool crafts work as a hobby or for the love of the work. Amateurs are those who have not shown to the public at a gallery, library, bank, etc. and those whose returns from sales do not exceed the cost of materials for the articles sold. 71

4 SPINNING CONTEST ENTER ON DAY OF JUDGING JUDGING BEGINS: 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18 Judge: Erda Kappeler Spinning Contest will be held in the Commercial Building 1. Registration will be in advance at the Fair Office, through the mail or up to 15 minutes before the event begins at the judging site. Participants are to provide their own wheel or drop spindle, and a NIDDY-NODDY. 2. The classes will be divided into Senior, Youth and Beginner. The beginner class is for frank beginners and is for the fun and enjoyment of learning on the spot. Youth classes are for age 17 or under. Senior class is for all adults other than beginners. 3.
