4 Sheep Show Health Requirements, Rules & Regulations The Sheep Show will take place Sunday, Sept. 24 beginning at 12 PM. Welcome to the 3rd annual Southern Adirondack Romney Show. It is our hope to promote the Romney breed, encourage junior activity and welcome all those interested in the wool industry. We are resolved to keep exhibits as neat as possible for festival-goers. The show committee and the fair board have agreed that in order to provide safety for all humans & animals, this show will use NYS Ag & Markets health requirements for county and state fairs. Therefore, all animals will be accompanied by current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and physically checked by a certified veterinarian after arrival. We will use the following protocol: 1. All animals must be in place either: a. Friday, September 22 rd 10AM-6PM b. Saturday 5 PM 8 PM c. Sunday 6 AM 8 AM 2. Pens will be assigned. All animals must be accompanied by CVI and registration papers on arrival. CVI must be current (certified within 30 days). a. Animals may be unloaded upon arrival to assigned pens and will be checked in by the show superintendent ASAP. Any animal not accompanied by CVI or exhibiting signs of contagious disease may be asked to leave upon the veterinarian s decision. Veterinarian checks - Friday 6 PM and Sunday 9 AM. b. All sheep must be identified by official USDA Scrapie ID and registration paper. c. All sheep must have rabies vaccination. (All lambs will be over 4 months). Vaccine must be administered within the last 12 months and no less than two weeks before arrival. d. All out-of-state animals must be accompanied with current interstate CVI and registration papers. Also, all out-of-state sheep must have a rabies vaccination as stated above. 6. Substitutions will be allowed only within the class entered. Substitutions must be made no later than time of arrival. 7. Exhibitors will provide their own bedding, feed and supplies. Exhibitors will not be released until Sunday, 5 P.M. Exhibitors must take down and stack pens before leaving. 8. Exhibitors will wear provided Exhibitor numbers through-out show. 9. Exhibitors Passes: 2 per farm (children under 13 free) NEW Exhibitor passes will be mailed to exhibitors. Please contact fair office if more are needed. Sheep Show exhibitor parking will be near the Ag Center Building in a designated area. No vehicles in/out of gates between 10 AM & 5 PM Saturday & Sunday. 10. Entrance for animal trailers will be at Gate D. Pens are located in barns 2 & 3 and the show ring is located in barn Exhibitors meeting immediately following show. Registration papers must indicate ownership by July 20 th, Junior: Age 21 and under as of January 1, Junior and open exhibitors will compete together with juniors stepping forward after judging is completed to be recognized. Cash, checks and credit cards can be used by buyers. A $2.00 additional charge per fleece sale will be assessed. (Fleece buyers will now make checks out to SAFPC rather to buyers). This change is meant to help increase sales and decrease congestion at the end of the festival. Fleece sellers will receive a check from the SAFPC within 10 days of the sale. SAFPC will be responsible for commission payments. All Fleeces will be released at 4 P.M., Sunday Sept. 24 th Grand Champion Fleece $50 Reserve Champion Fleece $25 Champion Romney Fleece $25 All fleeces will be judged on their own merits and ribbons awarded using the Danish system blue, red & white ribbons will be awarded. Best in class ribbons will also be awarded. Entry fee: $3.00/fleece. Limits: 10 fleeces/ farm. Conditions: All fleeces must be shorn within 12 months of show date. Exhibitor must own sheep at time of shearing. Fleeces may be entered for Show Only or for Show and Sale. Show Only fleeces must stay on display until 4 P.M. Sunday. Package each fleece in a large, clear plastic bag with identification farm or exhibitor name and animal s name or number. Fleeces to be sold will be weighed upon receipt by the show staff. The seller must determine the price /lb at which the fleece will be sold please enter the price/lb on entry form. Each fleece must be well-skirted removing tags, neck, belly & high vegetation areas. The judge may reclassify fleece if incorrectly entered. The judge may reject any improperly presented fleece without refund. Fleeces must be received at the show/sale building Friday, Sept 22 rd from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Judging will take place Friday at 5 P.M Fleece Sale : Saturday 10 AM until 5 P.M. & Sunday 10 A.M. 4 P.M. This information can be added for display purposes after judging. *Novelty yarns, sometimes referred to as complex yarns, are yarns which create a fabric that is not always smooth and uniform. Complex yarns are uneven yarns which may be thick and thin or have curls, loops, twists and differently colored areas along their length. Examples: Boucle', core, slub, crepe, etc. Novelty skeins may include plant and/or synthetic materials. All skeins must be received at the Wool Fleece Show/Sale Bldg. between Noon & 4 P.M.
