1 Iowa Sheep & Wool Fleece Competition Saturday, June 11, 2016 Arrival time: 8:30-9:15 AM Judging time (Closed to public): 10:00-11:15 AM Judges Comments and Awards Placing: 11:45 AM Superintendent: Regina Frahm: All fleeces will be judged on suitability for hand spinning. Fleeces must belong to producer or family member of producer. Division I: White Fleeces Division II: Natural Colored Fleeces Division III: Commercial Market type Fleece Classes: A. Fine Spinning Count Grades 64 to 80 B. Medium Spinning Count Grade 50 to 62 C. Coarse / Longwool Spinning Count Grades 36 to 48 D. Double-coated Judging: Fleeces will be judged on suitability for hand-spinning, with the exception of Div. III which will be judged against commercial standards. The judge reserves the right to 1) move fleeces to a more appropriate class. 2) Close or combine classes with insufficient entries. 3) give awards to quality fleeces only. A maximum of (5) fleeces per producer may be entered for competition and/or sale, with no more than two (2) fleeces in any one class. The same fleece may not be entered in more than one class. Premiums: In each class 1 st - $10 with ribbon 2 nd - $7 with ribbon 3 rd $5 with ribbon Best of show award $25 and Rosette PLEASE NOTE.Producers will no longer be allowed to receive more than one award if they are the only producer with an entry in a particular class. The judge or ISIA officials reserve the right to close the class & the producer will receive a refund of their entry fee.

Photo I.D. may be required. ISIA assumes NO responsibility for missing or damaged fleeces. Judge/Superintendent reserves the right to move fleeces to more appropriate class or division.
3 2016 Iowa Sheep & Wool Festival Fleece Competition & Silent Auction PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AS SOME THINGS HAVE CHANGED There are now only 3 Divisions. Div.I White Fleece Div.II Natural Colored Fleece Div. III - Commercial Market type Fleece There will still be 4 classes in each division. Fleece Requirements Fleeces must have been harvested between June 2015 & June No more than 12 months worth of growth. Each fleece MUST be heavily skirted. Free of as much debris as possible. Free of chaff, burrs, urine tags, manure tags, & skin tags! Fleeces not well skirted will NOT be accepted. Fleeces must be in a clear plastic bag. BAGS WILL PROVIDED AT THE COST OF $1.00 EACH. Entry Info $4.00 per fleece will be charged for those being entered in competition only. $6.00 per fleece will be charged for those being entered in BOTH Competition & Silent Auction. Those entering 2 or more fleeces in the Competition must enter at least one in the Silent Auction.
4 The policy of the Festival is to be a broker, to make fleeces available to the spinners & to provide a market for the producers. Producers are responsible for the accuracy of their entry forms. The producer is urged to be very selective in the fleeces they enter & reasonable in the prices they set. No on site private sales of fleeces that were entered into the show, all sales through auction only. The initial bid price for fleeces offered in the silent auction will be set by the producers. The ISIA commission on all fleece sales will be 10% for ISIA members & a 20% commission on fleeces sold by non-members. The opportunity to become a member will be available at the time of registration or you may join at any time online at: Dues are $30 for twelve months. Fleeces entered in the Judging Competition only, that do NOT win an award, must be removed immediately after judges comments & ribbons are placed. All fleeces that received an award & are not being auctioned must remain on display until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 th Initial judging will be closed to public & contestants. Judges comments will be offered to public & contestants beginning at 11:45. Awards will be placed at this time.
5 FLEECE SHOW & SILENT AUCTION Iowa Sheep & Wool Festival 2016 Jasper County Fairgrounds Colfax, Ia. Methods of handling fleeces available to producers : 1. Fleeces entered in competition and placed for sale in Silent Auction 2. Fleeces consigned for sale in Silent Auction 3. Fleeces entered in competition only. Fleece Standards: Fleeces must be from the current ( ) wool crop and represent no more than 12 months growth. Each fleece must be clean, free of chaff, burrs, tags and second cuts, must not have been processed in any way. They must be skirted and in a clear plastic bag. A fee of $1.00 per bag will be charged for clear bags at the entry table if needed. Fleeces must be pre-weighed and noted on the entry form, a scale will not be available at the time of registration. Any fleece judged to be excessively dirty will be disqualified. The policy of the Festival is to be a broker, to make fleeces available to the spinners, and to provide a market for the producers. Fleeces entered for competition that received no award and are not to be auctioned, must be removed from the exhibit area at 1:00 p.m. on the 11 th. Any unclaimed fleece will become the property of ISIA. ISIA will make every effort to display & care for the entered fleeces, but assumes no responsibility for damaged, lost, stolen or erroneously sold fleeces.
