Where Samplers Rule Just 15 minutes from the Airport at the NE CORNER OF CENTER & MCKELLIPS 106 E. McKellips Rd, Suite 111 Mesa, AZ 85201 THE ATTIC 2011 March 17 Issue No. 11-9 www.atticneedlework.com TELEPHONE (480)898-1838 FACSIMILE (480)898-0332 Elizabeth Sheffield s 1784 sampler is a Newport, Rhode Island sampler from the collection of the American Folk Art Museum in New York. It was reproduced by Marsha Parker with the museum s permission, and we are most fortunate to be provided the opportunity to stitch this historically significant sampler. The Sheffield sampler s beautiful palette is especially visible in the petit-point strawberry band pattern. I still haven t filled in all of the berries and flowers in the band, but I love it! The Scarlet Letter s Elizabeth Sheffield 1784 March s Sampler of the Month As our March Sampler of the Month, you will save 15% on your purchase of 2 of the following: chart $25 hand-dyed linen (36c cut w/2- inch margins $19) AVAS silk $89.70 OR the handdyed silk combo $165.75 See inside for Sampler Sunday s time change and Saturday s American Sampler Class I spent the week stitching the house, and I love the windows ~ the shading in the overdyed silk is reflected in the glazing, providing a very realistic look.
THE ATTIC! PAGE 2 Here s my progress through Wednesday night. I did steal away some time stitching in the natural outdoor light, and John sneaked a photo. Ten days after receipt of the shipment from Italy and AFTER announcing the price, a UPS invoice for the customs charges + brokering fees was received, adding nearly 15% to the cost of this product. I necessarily had to pass on some of those charges and, therefore, had to change the price of these lovely Rovaris pendants to $33. If anyone wishes to cancel their order because of the price increase, please let us know. We will certainly accomodate that request. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience.

Last Saturday s Potluck was wonderful, for a number of reasons: A smaller group made the room more comfortable for all and more food for everyone. But it was especially fun because a new stitcher joined us and brought her beautiful in-progress piece and THEN Ann was inspired to get a new project by seeing what others (Amy and Rhonda) were stitching. After all, isn t that what it s all about: sharing our friendship and our needlework. I forgot my camera so I m sorry I don t have photos, but I know I will get another chance to photograph the Quaker Virtues being stitched by several of you.

What time is it in Arizona? While the rest of the country sprang forward last weekend into Daylight Savings Time, most of Arizona (except the various Indian reservations throughout the state that observe DST) stays on standard time, so for 8 months of the year we are on the same time as California and others in the Pacific time zone, while the remaining 4 months of the year we are in the Mountain time zone. Confused yet? You should live here! So there is now a 3-hour time difference between the East Coast and here, just for your information if you phone us at noon from where you are and get the answering machine.
