I did a conversion to Belle Soie, picked out a linen (Vintage Misty Rain, not nearly as blue as it photographed), and began stitching it on the plane. I love it!... and its versatility for many smaller projects. The silks also look beautiful on more sampler toned fabric, like V. Examplar or V. Sand Dune or V. Lt. Examplar or V. Pecan Butter. Choose your favorite!

Harriot Redfearn 1830 $16, a true reproduction from the QSD collection, stitched with NPI silks on V. Meadow Rue. We saw this beauty in June. We ve done a conversion to Belle Soie and photographed it on Vintage Autumn Gold(which didn t photograph well at all), which takes the jewel tones very nicely. We still have some BCRF cookbooks left. November 19, 6-8 PM, Our 14th Annual BCRF Benefit, with all proceeds benefitting breast cancer research. Support a great cause (all net proceeds go to breast cancer research) by buying a copy(s) of the Recipes for a Cure cookbook for a donation of $14.95 (or more) with fabulous time-tested recipes as well as complimentary designs from 11 designers.

PAGE 3 Jackie du Plessis s November Workshops We are privileged to hold a special weekend of workshops with Jackie, renowned designer/finisher, the weekend of November 4-6 at the Hyatt Place in Mesa, located just 3 miles from the shop with shuttle service available to and from the shop. Reservations with the hotel can be made by calling or You must ask for the Attic Needlework group rate (King $94; Double Queen $104) or go online to ATN2. These rates are available before and after the weekend for any of you who wish to come early or stay longer. The rates include a daily continental breakfast, unlimited high-speed Internet access, 24-hour access to the StayFit@Hyatt fitness room and e-room business center, and use of the swimming pool, 9-hole executive putting green, and shuttle service within a five-mile radius upon availability. The weekend schedule with workshop prices is as follows: Friday, November 4, 2-8 pm (with a break for a light supper at 5): Chocolat $210 (There will be pre-stitching kits available in several weeks. The fee must be paid in full to receive your kit.) If you ve taken this workshop previously with Jackie but haven t finished it yet and would like to join the workshop with your kit for a refresher course, the fee is $50. The workshop model is now on display in our new giant glass display ~ come in and see it! 4 THE ATTIC! PAGE 4 An Attic Exclusive, Ann Wheatley s 1829 Sampler from the Private Collection of NeedleWorkPress! Above, Part 3 of the Ann Wheatley 1829 Sampler, stitched by Margaret, our Stitch-Along leader for this summer project. Here s what she writes about this installment as her stitching notes to all of you: Now we're getting to the pretty parts of Ann again! I love the berry baskets and the eyelet borders around Ann's name and dates. Nothing too tricky in this section. Just lots of prettiness. I finished the stars and the flowers that are at the bottom of the installment. The stars are symmetrical. The butterflies' antennae I did with long stitches. Enjoy! PAGE 5 Coming from Blackbird Designs Barb Adams and Alma Allen of Blackbird Designs have joined with the Spencer Museum of Art to share historical schoolgirl samplers with cross stitchers of today There is much to admire when perusing these lovely examples of needlework. Figures stroll through gardens, baskets of flowers can be as large as a house and blossoms almost as big as a person can float through the sky. Still the casual observer strolling through the garden feels that all is right with the world... it is folk art at its best. You will find examples of samplers spanning the years of Barb and Alma include eleven projects to stitch based on these wonderful works of art that were crafted by children so long ago. Here s what Alma said about the collection in a recent blog post: This project has been a labor of love. We've included 11 projects inspired by the schoolgirls in this book. The book has 104 pages. All 24 of the schoolgirls highlighted in this book really did remarkable work. I wish I could travel back in time and tell them that someday their work would be in a museum and that people all over the world would see what they stitched. If you purchase this book you will be helping the museum too. 50% of our royalties will go to the museum.
