Saturday night, November 21, 6 ~ 8 PM for our 12th Annual Silent Auction for Breast Cancer Research, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Our goal this year, as it has been each year, is to surpass the previous year's total. And that means that we need your help in raising more than $15,000+ this year. So many of you have contributed so unselfishly by donating your incredible handwork to this cause: raising money to finally find a cure for this dreaded disease. We have dozens and dozens and dozens of beautiful handmade ornaments, Seasonal decorations, a beautifully beaded treetop angel, handmade totes, afghans, needlecases, beaded fobs, a beautiful set of needlework smalls and basket that was Abigail Colby's Work Basket in 1857 and is now ready for another needlewoman to proudly display, two framed Shepherd's Bush Christmas pieces, another set of needlework smalls and basket known as the Needlework's Garden Basket, which is a part of the dozens of items from Sue's legacy, a fellow needleworker who lost her battle but whose beautiful handwork is a part of this year's event, thanks to many of you who contributed your "finishing skills" to Sue's handwork. This event has grown considerably in the past 12 years. The first year we raised about $1500. This year our goal is 10 times that. When it began, it was staffed by the Attic's staff, and still is to a degree ~ but there are so many more of you now who volunteer your time to help make this happen. It wouldn't happen without you! For weeks Angelica and Carol and Linda, and now Paula, have been spending their Friday afternoons in our classroom recording/registering the entries, numbering them, displaying them on the garland and in glass-enclosed boxes, and now photographing them for all of you to see ~ and BID ON! More volunteers will be needed on Friday evening, November 20, to move all of the items to the Woodbridge Lake Clubhouse starting shortly after 5 PM when the shop closes. We will serve pizza and refreshments and, of course, chocolate to the helpers. Please call if you can help. And on Saturday evening, November 21, from 6-8 PM final bids can be placed while you enjoy some delicious Seasonal treats and refreshments. It's a very festive and fun evening, and we hope you will be with us. Until then you may place your bids, either by or by phone (toll-free at ATTIC/ ). I have included what the committee of volunteers established as a Minimum Opening Bid (MOB), but please know that the items frequently go for many times the amount of the opening bid. Because we really aren't set up for ongoing long-distance bidding on items, if you see an item that you really want, you may ensure your getting it by placing what you regard as a "Buy It Now" bid, i.e., one that may discourage others from outbidding you, knowing that the proceeds go to a very worthy cause. And, of course, you may contact us again to place a higher bid. In years past, bidders have, for example, selected an item or items that they really want and, based on their budget, placed bids of, say, $200 or $300. I have also included some brief details about the item. As the event gets closer, I may not have time to do that. I know that longdistance bidding may be difficult in a silent auction, so if you have a question about an item, feel free to call for more information. All proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Your checks are made payable directly to the BCRF. However, all absentee winning bidders must also have credit card information on file with The Attic, along with your contact information and phone number(s), to avoid a "lost" winning bid. So if your personal information is not on file with us, please provide it when placing your bid.

Location: Woodbridge Lake Clubhouse, 2.3 miles from the shop, just past 1257 East Grandview. See map below. Time: 6-8 p.m. Parking: There is limited parking available at or near the clubhouse. There will be more parking along a subdivision street a half a block away. Also, several of you may wish to carpool by parking at the shop and riding together Here are the first 50 donated items ~ and she will be embarrassed by this publicity, but you should know that ALL of these first 51 items are donated by one incredible needlewoman, a breast cancer survivor herself whose gift with her needle is an inspiration to all of us. Thank you again, Alice, for this remarkable group of donations. All of us admire not only your strength, courage, and tenacity in beating this disease but your unparalleled talent and generosity in producing and donating this eclectic group of items for our event. As all of you will see as you read on, this woman alone is responsible for raising thousands, and this is an annual gift from Alice. She's already working on next year's donations.
