PAGE 2 NeedleWorkPress s Roses in July Originally stitched on perforated paper, this mini-sampler image appears on NeedleWorkPress s Web site at needleworkpress.com/node/22 ~ and here is what Vickie wrote about it on July 4, 2011: Chances are the motifs in this mini-sampler were selected by its maker because of their significance in her life. In my mind s eye, the prominent rose spray says she appreciated beauty; the small cross represents her faith; the flag signals her independence, the bird proudly stands for freedom and the potted flower is stability. Who knows the truth? How wonderful that we are free to interpret art as we please. Maegan s beautiful interpretation over 2 on Lakeside s 40c V. Fawn w/belle Soie silk ~ wonderful combination of roses and flags and birds! The Scarlet Letter s Tablet Sampler Below: 3 photographs I took of Marsha s model on our June visit to The Scarlet Letter that I hope give you an idea of the glorious floral border ~ but no progress photos this week; only finished leaves but will get to more flowers this week. It is my goal to reach the bottom of the right-side border by the end of February :-) We ll see! No progress photos this week ~ I was too busy stitching to take pictures! Doors open at 9 AM for our Attic Addict members and 10 AM for the general public. Don t miss it! Thursday, March 8 - Sunday, March 11, Junipine Retreat This annual Attic event is always sold out, with previous year s attendees given priority, limited by the size of the facilities. $300 fee includes 2-bedroom creekhouse (shared with 3 others) for 3 nights + opening reception + door prizes. Saturday, March 10, 10:30-12:30, Beginning Linen This class is appropriate for both beginning stitchers and those who would like to refine their skills. This informative class features Linda s Tulip needlebook design as the class project. The $30 fee includes expert instruction + all project materials. Sunday, March 18 or 25, 1-4 PM, Sampler Sunday. The date is still open as I try some arm twisting to convince John that we need to join Jer & Nan for a week while they re in Hawaii (so far it s not working :-( In February we had an overflow crowd that filled the tables in the main shop as well, so we ll try that again. Please phone/ your reservation. Fee: $10 We still have some BCRF cookbooks left. Support a great cause (all net proceeds go to breast cancer research) by buying a copy(s) of the Recipes for a Cure cookbook for a donation of $14.95 (or more) with fabulous time-tested recipes as well as complimentary designs from 11 designers. Merry Cox November 2012 We are most honored and privileged to host four Merry Cox Workshops on Thursday ~ Sunday, November Each workshop runs from 9-4 p.m., with lunch included. Registration for all of the workshops (Le Nouveau Palais Royal twice, Sweet Little Blossoms,, and So Dear to Thy Heart, the 2011 Williamsburg piece) at this time is closed, but if you wish to be on a waiting list, Thursday & Sunday s sessions for Le Nouveau Palais Royal are your best bet. All workshops will be held at Mesa s Hyatt Place, where there is a room block being held under Attic Needlework with a $99 King or $104 Queen/Queen option. Phone HYATT-HP. Unfortunately, we have more registrants than we have space for, so some are unhappily on a waiting list. Being a people pleaser by nature, it is very difficult for me to tell any of you that we can't confirm your registrations at this point. What I do know, however, having handled these types of events before, is that life happens and cancellations are inevitable, so don t despair ~ there will be some openings. Some have expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the registrations were handled, citing their desire to make deposits before prices were announced. I was unwilling to take money until the pricing was established, but there is no place in our needlework world for rudeness with my staff, and you know who you are. I am very sorry to have disappointed anyone. But rudeness takes away some of the joy I have in the privilege of hosting this event. I anticipated a huge response and tried to prepare for it as best I could, with an effort to be fair to everyone. That has always been my goal. That remains my goal. Pre-stitching kits will be Merry s first priority after she has filled the kit requirements for her May, June, and July workshops. You may go to Merry s Web site for more information about these projects, and many more of her incredible designs: Le Nouveau Palais Royal, what some consider Merry s pièce de résistance, will be taught Thursday AND Sunday. PAGE 4 Ann Dale Stitch-Along Above, Paula s progress on her beautiful Ann Dale 1827 Big & Beautiful ($30) from Shakespeare s Peddler using our conversion to all overdyes ($221.75) ~ (your other choice: the silks as called out in the chart, NPI + Belle Soie + Gloriana, $168.50) and the fabric suggested, Lakeside s Vintage Pear (for both 40c, $56, and 36c, $52, it will require a full Stitcher s Half.) Here s Paula s words about February s stitching: Here we are in February and it is time for the next installment of stitching on Ann Dale she sure is colourful! This month, stitch the 3 trees to the left of the middle one you stitched in January and of course, the 3 borders along the top and on the left side. It is more stitching than January, but still doable in a month, in my opinion I am not a quick stitcher! One thing, in the middle border, the green vine, keep a careful count as not all horizontal and diagonal countings are the same see you next month! I LOVE red, and it is so hard for me not to be joining you on this stitch-along, but occasionally I have a sense of realism instead of idealism on my stitching projects, and so I am most grateful to Paula for allowing me to enjoy this beauty vicariously. There s still time to join our SAL ~ purchase the entire project, and receive a 15% discount. As charted ~ our conversion to all overdyes.

PAGE 6 COMING NEXT WEEK from Needlemade Designs Above, Two fabulous pincushions from Linda of our Attic staff: Cat and Mouse Game $12, a pincushion and fob set that uses Sudberry s Vintage Pincushion ($20), features a cat on its cushion that sits atop a hidden compartment that hides a small pair of scissors with a matching fob. What's the cat hiding on the fob? A little mouse on one side and a piece of cheese on the other! Complete finishing instructions with photos are included. The finish of the pincushion with Weeks Dye Works wool is surprisingly easy ~ Linda says it took her only about 30 minutes once it was mounted. PAGE 17 Miscellaneous Topics My brother Jer and his wife Nancy are visiting from Wisconsin, and for the second year in a row we were able to celebrate Valentine s Day together ~ and now I am sure this is a tradition to be followed every year! It s such fun having them here. My sister-in-law is a fabulous cook, and my brother has me walking with him in the mornings. Yesterday we walked 4 miles, and today I thought I d need a whirlpool treatment, but I feel great. I will miss our walks while I m in Nashville. Here s a wonderful complimentary design coming to you from NeedleWorkPress at Nashville. And today John and Jer turned some beautiful needlecases ~ the engraving will have to wait for a bit longer. The laser engraver is temporarily out of commission until a new part arrives from 10,000+ miles away. If you have these on order, thanks for your patience while we wait for the part! If you ordered the 36c fabric for Blackberry Lane s Summer Afternoon Orts Container shown at the left, the piece we cut may have only been enough to complete the exterior circumference of the pail, per the dimensions on the chart back. Reading further inside the package, there is fabric needed for the pincushion top, 41 x 41. With small margins and careful placement there will be enough, BUT we have some extra fabric from the dyelot that we have saved for anyone needing/wanting more. Please give us a call or if you need more. And here s why you see no progress on my Tablet Sampler this issue ~ because it s been at the shop, and so I picked up my Quaker Christmas II to progress past the first motif!
