1 Where Samplers Rule Just 15 minutes from the Airport at the SE CORNER OF DOBSON & GUADALUPE 1837 W. Guadalupe Rd, Suite 109 Mesa, AZ THE ATTIC 2013 November 21 No. BCRF-2 TELEPHONE (480) FACSIMILE (480) It s almost time... Saturday night, November 23, 6 ~ 8 PM... for our 16th Annual Breast Cancer Benefit, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Go to to read more about this organization. We chose this Foundation as the recipient of the funds because of its very low percentage of administrative costs, where 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization to hold an A+ rating from CharityWatch (formerly American Institute of Philanthropy). Go to Charity Navigator to read their report on BCRF. How to Bid I have included what the committee of volunteers established as a Minimum Opening Bid (MOB) or the latest bid to beat, but please know that the items frequently go for many times the amount of the opening bid. Because we really aren't set up for ongoing long-distance bidding on items, if you see something that you really want, you may ensure your getting it by placing what you regard as a "Buy It Now" bid, i.e., one that may discourage others from outbidding you, knowing that all the proceeds go to a very worthy cause. And, of course, you may contact us again to place a higher bid. In years past, bidders have, for example, selected an item or items that they really want and, based on their budget, placed bids of, say, $200 or $300. To place a qualified bid, we must have your credit card information on file. When you place a bid, please provide telephone number(s) and credit card information, although we truly prefer you to send your check for your successful bid items. If you wish, you may make your check for more. And some of you simply send a donation via a check payable to BCRF, to include in our event total! Payment is preferred by check, made payable to BCRF. However, we will process your bids by credit card, if necessary; thus, the reason we need your credit card on file for all qualified bids. And on Saturday evening, November 23, from 6-8 PM, final bids will be placed while you enjoy some delicious Seasonal treats and refreshments. It's a very festive and fun evening, and we hope you will plan to be with us. Until then you may place your bids, either by or by phone (toll-free at ATTIC/ or locally, ). This year again the Silent Auction, with the help of dear Tess and her friends, will be held at The Gathering Place, 1837 West Guadalupe Rd., Mesa, which is now right next door to The Attic. It s conveniently located a mile east of Loop 101 on Guadalupe Road. Final bidding (with wonderful Costco-prepared hors d'oeuvres and refreshments) from 6 ~ 8 PM on Saturday night, November 23. Bidding closes promptly at 8 PM. Linda Danielson & Nita Brock have a treat in store for you at this year s Silent Auction! At a special table they will be teaching an easy-to-do Make-It & Take-It precious ribbon pincushion, fashioned after an antique (on the left in the photo at the right), and they are generously donating all of the materials. The kits with all materials will be $10 and all proceeds will be donated to the BCRF. The

21 THE ATTIC! PAGE 21 Hope ~ A Very Special Donation from Cherished Stitches What do you get with Bubble Gum and Milk Chocolate? Louise Henderson of Cherished Stitches answered it this way as she presented me with the beautifully wrapped package: A breast cancer ornament to keep. Louise, like many of us, has been touched by breast cancer and has generously donated this ornament design, stitched on 32c Milk Chocolate by Wichelt with Weeks Bubble Gum Crewel Wool, and she provided a limited number of copies for our use. The ornament is stitched over 2, except for the words Love and Hope, which are stitched over 1. We ve kitted Louise s chart with a piece of the Milk Chocolate linen and the Bubble Bum Crewel Wool (I know, the photograph shows Weeks floss; I didn t read all the words before taking the photograph) and all net proceeds from the sale of this kit will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You may order the kit for Hope, which includes Louise s complimentary chart, the linen + the crewel wool for $12, or with Weeks floss for $10. I hope you will plan to be with us for our 16th Annual BCRF Benefit ~ and help raise funds for breast cancer research!
