1 Preface 1.1 Purpse This dcument walks the user thrugh the menu setup and functinality f the CW Transmitter t emit up t fur cntinuus wave (CW) signals fr netwrk testing. Rev. E PCTEL 5
2 Intrductin 2.1 Overview PCTEL s SeeGull CW Transmitter supprts the design, verificatin, and ptimizatin f in-building netwrks. It emits up t fur simultaneus cntinuus wave signals n any technlgy r band, with a frequency range f 400 MHz t 3.7 GHz. This replicates a live netwrk envirnment fr RF prpagatin testing. The data can be cllected thrugh a PCTEL scanning receiver and prcessed using SeeHawk r third party pst prcessing tls. Results are used t validate r mdify design with ptimal antenna lcatins and cverage capability fr each segment f an inbuilding cellular netwrk. 2.2 Feature List Transmitter mde: Fur-Prt Cntinuus Wave. Adjustable frequency. Standard frequency step: 100 KHz. Adjustable utput pwer range: -10 dbm t 2, 5, 10, r 15 dbm depending n frequency selected. Output pwer accuracy f 1 dbm. Up t 24 saved channel cnfiguratins fr quick access. Intuitive interface with LCD display. Internal, rechargeable battery. Optinal external battery fr increased peratin time. Prtable and light weight ergnmic design. One year PCTEL warranty. 2.3 Safety Cmpliances WARNING: These devices have n prtectin against lightning. Please turn ff the CW Transmitter during a thunderstrm and, if applicable, take the antenna(s) inside befre a thunderstrm appraches. The transmitter itself is nt intended fr in weather utdr use. Rev. 6. Save: Save current cnfiguratin fr future use. 7. Edit Key: Prmpts edits f selected value r Channel name. When a Freq r Amp field is selected, pressing enables fine-tune adjusting with arrw keys. 4 General Operatins 4.1 Preparatins Steps: 1. Cnnect the charger if needed. Nte: use nly supplied charger. Using ther chargers may damage the CW Transmitter and vid the warranty. 2. Pwer n the device by hlding dwn the ON buttn fr ne secnd. 3. Cnnect antenna(s) t device. 4.2 Menus Figure 5 - Main Menu Frm the Main Menu, there are five majr sub menus: 4.2.1 Start Test: This will recall all cnfiguratins fr the last test setup, including: Mde, Freq, Amp, and active prts. All items can be mdified t meet current testing parameters. 4.2.2 Saved Channels: Figure 6 - Saved Channels Menu This menu cntains saved test channels including all previusly saved cnfiguratins. Up t 24 channels can be stred at a time. Frm the saved channel list, highlight the desired channel with the Arrw Keys: Press Keypad-1 t delete. Press Keypad-2 t start RF transmissin with these settings, r press RF ON. Rev. E PCTEL 11
4.2.3 New Channel: Figure 7 - Add Channel T add a new channel fr transmissin r t be saved fr future use: Freq: Enters the required channel frequency frm 400 MHz t 3.7 GHz in the relevant band, with a standard frequency step f 100 KHz. Amp: Enters the desired channel amplitude frm -10 dbm t10, 12, r 15 dbm depending n frequency selected, with a standard frequency step f 1 dbm. Prt On/Off: Use the number pad keys 1-4 t check r uncheck the crrespnding antenna prts 1-4. A bx with an check depicts the prt will be active when the RF ON buttn begins RF transmissin. A bx with an X is inactive. 4.2.4 Settings: Figure 8 - Settings Menu Factry Reset: Optin t restre device t riginal factry settings. It will delete all saved channel cnfiguratins, and will erase activated key-cde license. Press Enter n this ptin, and Enter again n the Are yu sure? prmpt. Press Escape n the Are yu sure? prmpt t cancel. Battery Status: Prvides battery infrmatin, including capacity percentage f battery life remaining. Figure 9 - Battery Status Rev. E PCTEL 12
Prt Upgrade: Displays Wideband 2 prt, Wideband 4 prt and Band Upgrade 3700MHz. A check bx will indicate the device s current cnfiguratin. 2 prt transmitters can be upgraded t 4 prts: Cntact PCTEL Sales fr purchasing infrmatin t receive an upgrade cde. Select Wideband 4 prt and press Enter. Input the upgrade cde and press Enter. Cnfirm n the Prt Upgrade menu that Wideband 4 prt is checked, and begin a fur prt transmissin. Figure 10 - Prt Upgrade Device Infrmatin: Displays the prduct name, hardware versin, firmware versin (t help determine if future firmware updates are needed), and serial number. 4.2.5 Memry Status: Figure 11 - Memry Menu Shws the number f used and free saved channels. CW Transmitter can stre up t 24 test channels. Rev. E PCTEL 13
4.3 Starting a Test Scenari 4.3.1 Start a New Test Figure 12 - Ch. Inf 1. Press the RF ON/OFF key. This will recall the last test cnfiguratin. The menu page is labeled: Ch. Inf. 2. T edit parameters: Use the Arrw Keys t scrll thrugh Freq and Amp. A circle icn indicates which value is highlighted fr edit. Press Enter t select a value t edit. Use Keypad numbers and Edit Key (fr negative sign r decimals) t input desired value and press Enter t apply. Example: In Figure 12 - Ch. Inf, the Amp f prt 1 is currently 15. Press Enter t select, then the number pad t enter a new Amp, and Enter again t cnfirm. Max dbm is dependent n Freq range and will aut crrect if the user inputs a number ut f range. Ex: 14 dbm fr 2170.1 Freq will aut crrect t 10. See Spec Chart belw fr details. 3. Use the number Keypad 1-4 t check r uncheck the crrespnding antenna prts 1-4. A bx with an check depicts the prt will be active when RF transmissin begins. A bx with an X is inactive. As seen in figure 12, all fur prts are active. If the transmitter is set t 2 prt cnfiguratin, prts 3 and 4 will nt be available. 4. Press RF ON/OFF again t begin transmitting. This will be indicated by the icn. A temprary message will flash, indicating which prts are active. If n prts have been activated, a N Prt is Selected errr message will display. Refer t step three t use the check bx t activate the desired prts fr RF transmitting. A secnd methd is t select Start Test frm the Main Menu and press the Enter Key. 4.3.2 Save a Reusable Cnfiguratin After setting new test cnfiguratin parameters the user can save fr quick access fr future testing needs. Up t 24 cnfiguratins can be stred n the CW Transmitter s memry at a time. 1. When parameters are set, press the Save Key. A bx will appear n the screen with a default name. Rev. E PCTEL 14
Press Enter t save with this name. Press the Edit Key t use the Keypad letters t change the name press the Enter Key t cmplete saving prcess (Nte: 12 character limit). 4.3.3 Recall Saved Cnfiguratin 1. Frm Main Menu, use Arrw Keys t select Saved Channels Menu, press Enter. 2. Within Saved Channels Menu, previusly saved test cnfiguratins are listed in alphabetical rder. 3. Use Arrw Keys t select the desired saved parameters. Unwanted saved Channels can be deleted by selecting and pressing Keypad-1. 4. Press Keypad-2 t activate settings and begin transmitting RF indicatr icn will appear. Rev. E PCTEL 15
