1 Qualification title: OAL Level 2 NVQ in Woodmachining Qualification number (QN): 603/0213/6 1. Qualification specification 1.1. Qualification purpose This qualification is designed to develop and assess the competent performance of Woodmachinists, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work effectively in their role. On achievement of the qualification practitioners will have developed the competence to perform consistently and reliably in their role. This qualification will support progression of learners to: Team leader and supervisory roles Furniture quality technician Furniture production leader Furniture design technician New product developer 1.2. Who is this qualification for? A Furniture Wood Machinist produces components for furniture using a wide range of wood working machinery. This includes setting up, operating and maintaining wood working machines such as saws, planers, moulders, lathes, routers and CNC/NC machines. Wood Machinists will take raw materials and produce components to a given specification to be used in the manufacture of furniture. They will often be working individually so being able to motivate themselves and work on their own initiative is essential. Having a keen eye for detail, learners will work in environments from small workshops to large scale factories. Following this route will allow a learner to develop a wide range of skills across different types of wood working machines This qualification can also be used to underpin the delivery of the Furniture Manufacturer Apprenticeship Standard Wood Machinist Pathway. 2 1.3. Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements for learners selecting this qualification. Organisations providing training and assessment must ensure that learners have the potential and opportunity to achieve the qualification successfully. It covers areas such as maintaining tools and equipment, working effectively, measuring and marking out materials, preparing, setting up and operating wood machinery and planes and selecting, preparing and maintaining wood machining tooling. Learners must achieve The units are allocated a credit value which provides an indication of the size of the unit in terms of learning hours, 1 credit = 10 learning hours. The units also have assigned Guided Learning Hours (GLH), which indicate the average number of hours a learner may require guidance and support from teaching, learning and assessment professionals to achieve the unit. The units of assessment set out Learning Outcomes which describe what learners need to be able to do and understand. The Learning Outcomes are defined by Assessment Criteria which are used to assess competence, expressed as skills achieved and learned knowledge and understanding, to achieve the units. Achievement of the one mandatory unit and one optional unit will mean the qualification has been completed, and will be subject to approval of a claim for certification. Competence (C) units are designed to assess learner performance in respect of the learner s applied skills and knowledge in the workplace when carrying out operational tasks required by their role Assessment The qualification must be assessed using the following assessment method: portfolio of evidence Learners are required to achieve all learning outcomes within units of assessment. All assessment is subject to internal quality assurance within approved centres providing this qualification.
