9 Timber Gate Information Softwood Gates Softwood Timber Information We wish to point out that timber is a natural product and is prone to movement, especially when using pressure treated Scots Pine products. Location of gates will have a varied effect on gates and posts, and we cannot be held responsible for movement, shrinking, expansion and shaking (timber cracks) of our products. We take every avenue possible to minimise this but cannot guarantee against it. It is very important that when hanging gates suitable two way adjustable fittings are used to offset any possible movement that is likely to occur. Pressure Treated Scots Pine (Softwood) Scots Pine sourced from Scandinavia makes for an extremely cost effective product that has very good longevity subject to being pressure treated, giving good protection against rot. No further treatments are required; however wood stains (not paints) can be applied for cosmetic purposes at a later date when the timbers are fully dry. Please be aware that Scots Pine is very prone to movement, contraction and of shaking (timber cracks) in the timbers, more often with pressure treated timbers as moisture is forced into the kiln dried wood. This is not in any way detrimental to the products but this can be partly off-set by using appropriate two way adjustable hinges. We offer no guarantees with any of our pressure treated timber products. Base Coat Treated Scots Pine (Softwood) All softwood 70mm Tongue & Groove framed double leaf driveway gates are supplied with a straw colour water repellent base coat, to which further solvent and oil based treatments and stains should be applied. As the timbers are not pressure treated, it is important to apply appropriate wood preservers so as to minimise movement and shaking of the goods, and to maintain the longevity of our products. We highly recommend applying solvent or oil based stains prior to installation. We do not recommend that paint applications are used on any Scots Pine Softwood products.
