1 WOOD FRAMING WALL+ FEATURES

2 Load Families &Schedules Load Families & Schedules loads sample framing, connection families and sample schedules to the current project. You can find the families in Project Browser Families under Structural Connections and Structural Framing categories. Sample schedules can be found under Schedules/Quantities in Project Browser. Note: User can modify those schedules and use it as a templates for making shop drawings. 2

3 Framing Configuration Framing Configuration definition of all framing parameters. It allows to configure and save settings for all sorts of frames main wall Frames, Secondary Frames, Vertical and Horizontal Nailers, Vertical and Horizontal Sidings, Wood Logs. It is very versatile with thousands of different possibilities. 3

4 Wall Link Wall Link makes a link between wall type from the project and configuration. Choose the wall type you want to link and apply framing configuration for the layers. 4

5 Frame Wall Frame Wall frames selected walls from the model according to predefined configuration. 5

6 Update Frame Update Frame updates the frame if there are any changes made to wall, e.g. window was moved, or wall extended. 6

7 Add Secondary Frame Add Secondary Frame adds secondary frame to selected walls. 7

8 Add Nailers Add Nailers adds vertical or horizontal nailers to selected walls. 8

9 Add Siding Add Siding adds vertical, horizontal or mixed siding to selected walls. 9

10 Frame Additional Layers Frame Additional Layers automatically frames all other layers (nailers, sidings, secondary frame) excluding the main Frame. You will not need to press Add Nailers or Add Sidings separately. The layers which should be framed needs to be selected in Frame column in Wall Link: 10

11 Add/Update/Delete Details Add Details for placing details at the end of framing process. Recommended workflow: create frame without details; add additional elements; split elements if needed; and in the final step - add details. This will allow users to save time during updating process when you frame a wall. 11

12 Add/Update/Delete Details User can predefine the details in Framing Configuration, but the details will not be added if Use Add Details command will be selected during the framing process: 12

13 Add Bracing between Studs\Plates Add Bracing between Studs\Plates (external or internal side) adds bracing between two studs\plates you choose to external or internal side of framing. To configure settings go to Framing Configuration select configuration you use in the wall Bracing. You can add wood or metal bracings. 13

14 Add Bracing between Studs\Plates 2 Select bottom plate and then top plate to show bracing ends 1 14

15 Add/Modify/Delete Brace Group Add Brace Group places short braces automatically between two studs with predefined rules. You can add wood or metal bracings. 15

16 Add/Modify/Delete Brace Group To configure settings go to Framing Configuration select configuration you use in the wall Bracing Brace Group 16

17 Add Additional Bridging/Nogging/Blocking Add Additional Bridging/Nogging/Blocking adds additional bridging/nogging/blocking between selected studs. 1 2 Select two studs predefine the offset from wall top or bottom 17

18 Add Additional Bridging/Nogging/Blocking For the bridgings you have to use M_Wall_Frame Bridging- Backing Plate family. Also there is possibility to put two (or more) rows in the External, Internal or Central side of the Frame. 18

19 Add Additional Stud Add Additional Stud adds additional stud from selected stud or wall ends. Select a stud predefine the offset from the stud or wall ends 19

20 Add Additional Support Stud Add Additional Support Stud adds additional support stud between two selected plates Select two plates predefine the offset and a spacing between studs 20

21 Modify Additional Element Modify Additional Element modifies selected additional element with custom settings if you need to do unique changes. All configuration settings are the same as in Framing Configuration. 21

22 Add/Delete Additional Details Add Additional Details adds additional details by predefined rules Details could be added on the stud or plate 22

23 Split Top/Bottom Plates Automatically Split Top/Bottom Plates Automatically spits Top or Bottom Plate according to predefined settings in Framing Configuration 23

25 Split Top/Bottom Plates Manually Split Top/Bottom Plates Manually splits or bottom plate by selected stud. Make sure Auto Split Lengthen Distance setting in Framing Configuration is 0. 25

26 Split Bridging/Nogging Split Bridging/Nogging splits bridging or nogging by selected stud This is an example with log wall. In this case invisible stud is added and used Split Bridging/Nogging to split the logs into segments. 27 Multi-Framing Multi-Framing features work well in big projects, like multi-storey houses. It opens additional window that contains tools for multi-framing tasks. Multi-Framing is used when there are groups or identical walls in the project. Using Multi-Framing tools user can easily transfer framing elements between identical walls and update them automatically. Read more in a separate Wall+ Multi- Framing.pdf document. 27

28 Delete Frame Delete Frame deletes selected framing. You just need to select one frame and the tool will delete the total frame from the wall. 28

29 Align Studs with Main Frame Align Studs with Main Frame use if studs from other layer like secondary frame or vertical nailers has to be aligned with studs from main frame. 29

30 Align Studs with other Element Align Studs with other Element aligns studs with trusses, truss system grids or studs from other frames. 30

31 Align Studs with other Element Steps: 1. Run Align Studs with other Element Select any Structural Framing element (for example, truss bottom chord or element from Truss System Grid) 1 OR 1 2. Select a stud from the frame that has to be aligned 2 31

33 Align Studs with two other Elements Align Studs with two other Elements aligns studs with two selected trusses, truss system grids or studs from other frames 33

34 Align Studs with two other Elements Steps: 1. Run Align Studs with two other Elements select two Structural Framing elements (for example, truss top chord or two elements from Truss System Grid): 2. Select a stud that has to be aligned: 34

36 Align Opening Cripples with Studs Align Opening Cripples with Studs aligns opening cripples with trusses, truss system grids or studs from other frames. 36

37 Align Opening Cripples with Studs Steps: 1. Run Align Opening Cripples with Studs 2. Select any cripple above the opening Result all cripples above the opening are aligned 37

38 Clear Opening Cripples Alignment with Studs Clear Opening Cripples Alignment with Studs removes alignment of cripples to default. 38

39 Modify Wall Framing Modify Wall Framing modifies selected wall framing with custom settings if you need to do unique changes. All configuration settings are the same as in Framing Configuration 39

40 Modify Opening or Multiple Opening Framing Modify Opening Framing modifies selected opening framing with custom settings if you need to do unique changes. All configuration settings are the same as in Framing Configuration. 40

41 Modify Wall Join Framing Modify Wall Join Framing modifies selected join with custom settings if you need to do unique changes. All configuration settings are the same as in Framing Configuration. 41

42 Modify Wall Join Framing For join modification please make attention which stud you are selecting. The tool will recognize if the corner is outer or inner and give you different options in modification dialog to modify Butt (B) or L corner: 42

43 Update Framing/Opening by Wall Link Update Framing by Wall Link reframes frame or selected opening to the default that is configured under Framing Configuration. 43

44 Save Configuration w/o Openings Save Configuration w/o Openings saves configuration of selected frame without settings for openings. This feature is very useful if you have already framed wall and you lost configuration that was used for this wall. Configuration is needed to frame new walls. 44

45 Save Configuration w/o Openings You just need to select any frame from a wall and save configuration under your name: Now you will be able to use this configuration for new or existing walls: 45

46 Build Log Wall Build Log Wall creates logs for the selected walls. Note: By default, different log walls after building them are in same height, to change that create new log wall type and link it with other configuration that will use half log in the bottom and top. 46

47 Cut Log Walls Cut Log Walls cuts connected logs from selected walls. You can select any two logs or walls to be cut. 47

48 Cut Logs Cut Logs logs can be cut separately from other members of log wall. You can select one or multiple logs to cut. 48

49 Set Location Marks Set Location Marks creates three parameters Location Mark, Start Location Mark, End Location Mark into logs and writes grid names where log is positioned 49

50 Sort Logs Sort Logs renumbers logs according to predefined rules and writes values to FM SortMark parameter 50

51 Calculate Log Length Calculate Log Length writes log length to selected or newly created parameter. Formula used for true log length calculation: Length + Lengthen_Start_True + Lengthen_End_True Start Flange/2 End Flange/2 51

52 Manage Walls Manage Walls shows situation about walls in convenient dialog. Every wall is displayed in a separate row and indicated with a color. In the right side you can see the color legend with meanings. After selection in the dialog you will see this selection in a project. Also you can easily filter the walls in the left side tree. 52
