Totems have been used by many civilizations; the North Americans, Island cultures of the Pacific and the Australian aboriginal culture all have used and continue use totems today. There are two parts to this assignment: Part a: Drawing and giving a detailed explanation about your totem pole Part B: Researching a culture and their totem poles Extension Task: Compare the differences and similarities with your totem pole to the culture that you have researched Part A: Personal Totem 1. Draws an accurate, detailed and coloured of their totem design Investigates a range of civilizations which used/uses totems in their culture. Includes these examples Concentrates on one example and effectively provides some subjective views as well answering all questions in full sentences Demonstrates a strong understanding of how cultures use totems in their everyday lives through student s own appropriate totem designs. Draws a partly detailed totem design and uses some colour Finds and includes a photocopy of a culture which uses totems Answers all questions in mostly full sentences Demonstrates a good understanding of how cultures use totems in their everyday lives through student s own designs. Draws their totem design and colours it in Finds and includes the example of a culture where totem are used Answers some of the questions using both full sentences and single word answers Demonstrates a developing understanding of how cultures use totems in their everyday lives through student s own designs.
