1 Up. February 2018 Chairman Stan Lax Tel : Secretary Brian Haggath Tel A belated Happy New Year, but a special one for our 20 th year. Brian has a special article being printed in Woodturning Magazine to celebrate and highlight our successes over this period. Sadly, January was marked by the passing of our last founder member Bill Beeforth, he will be missed. Subs this year will be staying at 35 and due 1 st April. Brian will begin collecting 1 st Wed in March. Last day for payment will be 11 th April. Our AGM will be on the 4 th April followed by a competition of work - to be judged by yourselves - one man one vote! If sufficient people sign up we will have a Social Evening to mark 20 th anniversary on Sat 14 th April at Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Club, on Ladgate Lane. Pete R December 7 th Demo: Dave Muckle s Christmas Special Dave set out to show us a number of small projects with a view to being early enough to allow time to make some before Christmas. The first project was a Wooden Stemmed Wine Glass. The final assembly is held together with clear silicone. Dave s next turn was a Tea Light Candle Holder.

2 Dave then showed us how to make some Christmas tree ornaments and finished with a snowman. Sadly my battery ran out so I have no pictures of the finished items. Once again, Dave produced a demo full of information, caution and ideas. Thoroughly engaging and entertaining. PR 13 th December- Open Evening What an amazing turn-out from the club. Such a shame that the public did not turn up to see it. We need to look at how we can promote these events! There was so much to see that I decided to abandon any attempt to identify work. Just enjoy the pictures.

David Otterson Table-top Turn-out 10th January Ian Robson Events Diary February 2018 Wed 14: Guest Demonstrator Tony Kitchen. This will be Tony's first visit to our club. March 2018 Wed 7: TONIGHT IS THE CLUB'S 20TH BIRTHDAY!!!! 20 years since the inaugural meeting to decide to found a woodturning club in Teesside. Wed 21: In house demo with a difference by club member Nigel Coates. Nigel is asking for members to bring in unusual awkwardly shaped logs and he will pick a couple and see what he can do with them...now there's a brave man!!!. April 2018 Wed 4: Club AGM followed by competition. Sat 14: Social evening at Middlesbrough Golf Centre to mark the club's 20th anniversary. May 2018 Wed 16: In house demo on finishing techniques by club member David Muckle RPT.

4 January s Demo: Dennis Wake: an Earring Stand/ Saturn Box Dennis began by turning a chucking point into the Oak base and shaping the bottom of the bowl. After sanding and polishing, he reversed the chuck and drilled a hole for the spindle seat. He then hollowed and finished the base. Dennis then went on to shape the lower part of the Saturn box, leaving the ring as an outstanding disc. He reversed the box into Cole Jaws to finish. Pressed for time, Dennis went on to show how to turn the spindle and finial. Throughout the demo, Dennis gave sound advice about cutting safety techniques. The demo was entertaining and instructive and well appreciated by the audience. PR.
