3 Sign Finishing and Painting Instructions The first steps will be to finish and paint your two sign pieces. We recommend the following style paints, although you are welcome to use any color combination of your own liking. These are the paints we used for our product sign listing: Satin Black Latex Used for lettering Satin Dark Gray Used for drybrushing (We used Lowes Vessel Gray) Satin White Used for base coat (We used Sherwin Williams Porcelain) The colors are not overly critical and the ones we selected here are ones that we had left over from other projects. Okay, so lets begin! 1. The first step is to surface finish both sign pieces. Using sandpaper, remove any burrs or other rough surfaces. Since the overall look of the sign is a distressed look, this isn t overly critical. 2. Wipe down the signs with a damp rag or dry brush to remove any residual dust. 3. Using a small brush, paint all the lettering on both signs using the black paint. Using a water damped rag or paper towel, go over the top surface of the sign to remove excess black paint before it dries. You only need to remove excess black paint on the top surface. Allow this to dry overnight. 4. Use a paint roller to apply a base coat of white paint on all surfaces of the signs. Apply only minimal paint to the roller and roll a few times on a cardboard surface to get rid of any excess paint the paint roller should appear almost dry. This will ensure that when you go over the top of the black lettering, white paint doesn t flow down into the black lettering grooves. Allow this paint to fully dry before proceeding to the next step. September 2018, Rev

4 5. In this step, we will use dry brushing technique to paint over the white base coat with the darker gray paint. The best way to learn about how to dry brush is on YouTube. We recommend the following YouTube video tutorial. Simply enter the title below into the YouTube search box. Once the dry brushing is complete, you may now go back and touch up the lettering with your black latex paint if desired. Use a very small hobby brush and lightly go over any areas that may need touching up. A black permanent marker also works well for touch up work. 7. Set aside and allow to fully dry. 5 Sign Building Instructions 1. Purchase (2) eight foot length 2x4s from your local hardware store or home improvement center. For added effect, we recommend buying wood that is in bad condition, has chipped or splits, or just looks plain old! You may also use scrap wood lying around your house. 2. Using a chop saw or similar, cut the 2x4s into pieces of the following lengths. 6 3. OPTIONAL If you have a table saw and have a dado blade set, you may add 3.5 wide x 0.75 thick dado cuts in both the post member and sign support member as shown below. This will allow you to secure together these pieces so they are flush with one another. If you don t have this equipment no worries. You can simply screw them across each other. The figure below illustrates the locations of those dado cuts. 9" 7.5" 4. You will now construct the base and attach the post. Using the included A template, drill two pilot holes through one end of two (2) 18 length base pieces as shown below. 7 5. Do the same for the remaining two (2) 18 base pieces using the B template. B Drill template 18 inches 6. Assembly the base with the center post in the middle as shown in the top view diagram below. The number of screws on each base piece correspond to the A or B drill templates you used in step 5 above. First apply wood glue between the two wood pieces and use a cordless drill to drive the deck screws into the wood. Repeat this for all four base pieces. Wipe up excess glue with a wet paper towel. 9 7. Next, install the top member using two (2) deck screws as shown. Again, use wood glue between the pieces before screwing them together. Note, if you are doing the optional flush joint with dado cuts, you will need to supply your own shorter screws as the included deck screws will be too long. 10 8. Congratulations. You have now completed your base and post. Please allow a few hours for the glue to cure. 9. Now you are ready to paint the base and post. Use a paint roller and brush, as necessary, to apply a base coat of white paint on all surfaces of the signs. Allow this paint to fully dry before proceeding to the next step. 10. 13. Install the eight (8) hooks as shown in the image below. We recommend drill 1/16 pilot holes for each eyehook before screwing them into the wood to prevent splitting. 14.

12 15. Congratulations. Your sign is now complete. Now it is time to wire up the LED light and Flicker 1.0 LED controller. Using the LED Light and Flicker 1.0 Controller 1. The first step is to connect the 12V power supply adapter to the Flicker 1.0 controller. If you have purchased the optional 12V power supply adapter from us directly, the positive output of the power supply will be labeled. Connect the positive wire to the PWR+ terminal on the controller and the negative wire to the PWR- terminal. Refer to the hook-up diagram below. If you are using your own 12V power supply, be sure to use a multimeter to verify which lead is positive and which lead is negative. 2. Using the included twisted black/white wire, splice this wire onto the ends of the short cable on the outdoor LED spotlight. You can trim this wire as desired depending on the distance between the Flicker 1.0 controller and the LED spotlight. Connect the white wire to the positive end of the LED cable (labeled), and the black wire to the negative end of the LED cable. 3. Next, we will connect the outdoor LED spotlight to the Flicker 1.0 controller. Connect the white wire (positive) to the OUT+ terminal of the Flicker controller and the black wire (negative) to the OUT- terminal of the Flicker controller. 4. Double check all connections, and plug-in the 12V power adapter. Press the MODE button on the Flicker controller to cycle through the various modes. 13 12V Power Supply Adapter Outdoor LED Spotlight Flicker 1.0 Module 5. Place the LED spotlight so that its light is pointed at the sign. We generally recommend the LED be placed in the ground about 3-4 feet in from of the sign pointing upwards. This generally provides the best effect. 6. Congratulations.
